Are signups still open, currently? I have what I think is an interesting character concept in mind, and I'd like to try it out.

• Name: Joshua Coleman, "Scio"
• Side: Registered
• Physical Appearance: 25 Years of age. Blue-eyed with shaggy brown hair, pale, and of slightly above-average height. Lean, with only medium muscle tone. The outfit of his Scio persona is mostly dark, the white of his long, hooded cloak contrasting starkly with the black of his gloves, bodysuit, and boots. To cover his face, he wears a laughing mask, also white. The hood of the cloak is typically pulled up in order to further conceal his appearance.
• Personality: Always serene and smiling in even the most dire situation, Joshua appears to most people to be a model of friendliness and courtesy. Yet when performing heroics in public, he comes off as cold, cynical, and utterly unapproachable. In reality, his powers have, over the years, caused a complete breakdown in his ability to empathize with others and in his motivation. As something of a side-effect, he is also extremely lazy, only ever putting the bare minimum of effort into any task he's ordered to do.
• Powers:
  • Telepathy/Empathy: Able to scan the (surface) emotions and thoughts of anyone and everyone in a 50-yard radius. Much deeper probes are possible if he concentrates his attention on only one or two targets at a time. Coincidentally, constantly reading the minds of people around him lends Josh incredible reflexes regarding those within his range, as he always picks up on their impulses before they act, and although he is still subject to the limitations of his own body, dodging bullets becomes a lot easier when you know just how they're going to shoot. Unfortunately, he is completely unable to turn this power off or dampen his reception in any fashion.
  • Telekinesis: Exactly what you would expect; the ability to mentally push and pull (and only push and pull) anything within a 5-yard radius in any direction with his mind, including himself.
• Other Skills:
  • Intellect: With the general range limitations on his abilities being easily estimated by the city's criminals after countless encounters, Scio has had to rely more often than not on his wits to survive, becoming adept at tactical maneuvers and thinking on his feet.
  • Martial Artist: After he agreed to work for the government, Scio's handlers insisted that he be highly trained in numerous styles of martial arts. His favorites by far are those that use his opponents' force against them.
  • Mimicry: An excellent actor, Joshua is very good at mimicking others' voices. As an extension of this skill, he is capable of implanting suggestions in people's minds by "speaking" to them in their own mental voice, but this ploy fails to work if the subject is on guard against it or otherwise recognizes that the thought is not his or her own. The fact that he can do this is fairly well known, so it's typically only possible when the target is totally unaware of his presence or sufficiently distracted by something else.
• Background/Origin: As a small child in a normal suburban household, Josh believed that everyone could do what he could. It was only later that he realized his budding ability to perfectly predict a person's words and know exactly how they were feeling made him stand out. Naturally, he kept a lid on his powers afterwards, although as a kid in Megalopolis, he always dreamed of becoming a superhero, and held up figures like Nuclon as his idols.
  
  Despite his enthusiasm and creeping growth of his abilities, Josh didn't get into crime-fighting until his mid-teens, when he decided he could no longer ignore the vocal, mental, and emotional cries for help coming from an alley he passed by on the way back from school one day. Confronting the thugs robbing an old man, he wiped the floor with them, not suffering even a single scratch in the process. It was at that moment, when he felt the profound gratitude of the man whom he had saved, that Josh realized he really could make his dream a reality, that he could make a difference.
  
  Thus, he leapt into the life of a superhero without looking back, and soon became well-loved among the city's law-abiding populace as a paragon of superheroism. As time went by, however, Josh continuously ran himself ragged, citizens' expectations and his very personality not allowing him to ignore any call for help from the thoughts and feelings he was never able to stop hearing and feeling. At long last, he broke down and suffered near-complete burnout in his own ability to actually empathize with anyone he encountered or saved, becoming very much detached. People wondered how their cheerful hero had changed from so warm-hearted a person to such a cold one, but the general consensus was that it was either the result of Grimmification of superheroes by the media and so on, or that his original attitude had been a facade all along. Therapy was utterly ineffective, especially because he immediately knew exactly what his therapist was thinking.
  
  Just before Nuclon exploded and the Prohibition Act passed, Josh had been considering quitting superheroism for good. Having no particular reason to not register, thus breaking the law and therefore making life that much more difficult for himself, he did as required and was offered a good, secure, and well-paying job in return. Nowadays, Scio performs his heroics only as work dictates, but even then he absolutely refuses to get involved or let any crisis ruin his day unless he has prior reason or is directly ordered. He continues about life under the guise of happiness and normalcy, going through the motions of society to avoid standing out, but Josh's superhero persona is ironically now perhaps the only state in which he reveals his real self.
• Miscellaneous Notes: Graduated from a local university with a degree in both Psychology and Communications. Often greets people directly in their own minds with a fairly intimate-sounding, "I know you, [Name]", which has proven very effective in putting criminals he encounters off their game and generally weirding people out, much to his amusement. Despite being fine with inflicting some small level of pain on criminals during their capture, Josh will absolutely never kill someone, having once gone too deep into the mind of a man just as he was dying. The experience was disturbing, to say the least.

Awesome. Here's my bio:

• Name: Achilles
• Side: registered
• Physical Appearance: 6”2 without his armor, short black hair, caucasian. Resembles a Spartan from the Halo series.
• Personality: Achilles is the perfect soldier. He does whatever his handler tells him without question. Even without his handler, Achilles is able to think on his own with great reason. His AI system is also loaded with personalities of every type of human.
• Powers: can lift 10 times the amount of any human, run faster than an Olympic runner, and can shoot a fly from a hundred yards away and not kill it.
• Background/Origin: Achilles original name is classified information. He was an average young man with a passion for advanced weaponry. After finally finishing his latest gun, he presented it to the US military. They were so pleased with his work that they enrolled him in a top secret project to create the ultimate weapon. They modified his skeletal system to accompany his armor and AI systems. This has allowed his armor to withstand a tank shell. Other than the machinery used to remove it, only nuclear weapons can damage it. Without his armor, he is as vulnerable as any other human. His brain has electrical wiring that connects it to an AI system that helps control the machinery. Even without the armor, the AI sytem still works. It also allows him to have advanced knowledge of everything that the US military has uploaded into his system and advanced targeting systems. Naturally, his armor weighs a ton, so his movement is aided by machinery. His mechanized suit is designed to be able to lift a car and still be agile enough to stroke a cat.

Mal was fun, but I think I want a character more on the offensive side this time. :P (also I see we already have a telepath)

Character Creation: Name: Charity Goldwright. a.k.a Gremlin
Side: Registered
Physical Appearance: 22 years old, raven black hair, long bob haircut, and pale purple eyes. Stands around 5'2, is pale, thin, and toned. Wears black tights with a purple short skirt over them, fingerless gloves with a metal plate on the palm, bullet proof vest, and a purple domino mask.
Personality: Bubbly, cheeky, loyal, and rather greedy. She isn't afraid to speak her mind, and can be rather flirtatious if she thinks someone has something she needs. And if she wants to make them uncomfortable. She tends to go where the money is, or where her "sidejobs" won't be looked into. However, when she gets attached to a person, no amount of money will drag her away.
Powers:

• Electrical generate: Charity can generate electrical currents in her body and can use them in an attack. She can't do things like "chain lightning" and needs the person to be in close proximity (if not physical contact) in order to shock an opponent.
• Electrical resistance: Cannot die from electrocution - at worst it will knock her out, and at best she might like it.
• Electrical manipulation: She can direct electricity in a direction if she has physical contact with it - though electricity being what it is, this is limited to shortrange (within a couple of metres) distances and isn't particularly accurate.
• Electromagnetic Sensing: She "read" the electromagnetic impulses around her to tell her if other people are around, or technology.

Other Skills:

• Computer hacker
• Amateur electrical-dohicky maker. Sometimes her inventions work. Other times they blow up. Neither of which she minds.
• Advanced martial artist
• Handgun proficiency
• Knife-fighter

Background/Origin: Charity always had a thing for technology, sports, and firearms. In college she was learning computer science and was already a pretty good hacker. In highschool there was an "incident" in an electrical storm when she was trying to repurpose an old computer screen. After spending a few months in hospital, she came out with some degree of electrical control. She was very disappointed that she couldn't "call lightning" like in her videogames.
The government picked her up after she had been caught deactivating an alarm at Tiffany's. Miscellaneous Notes: Is an otaku, and techo-freak. Loves video games.

Have one prepped. As with Stolen (she got me into this, by the way, so if my character ends up being the proverbial penny on the rails you can blame her), Doppler was fun, but I decided to try something else.

• Name: der Kobold der Floete, the Beetleburg Mimmoth Migration, Abu Aleferan al-Hamelni [self-titled]. As a result, currently going by "Abu", much to his frustration.
• Status: Unregistered. (Police aren't sure what to do with him, those that have heard of him.)
• Appearance/Description: an animating spirit, or djinni, who came to take physical form. Said physical form is the guiding intelligence behind a swarm of rats, though occasionally other small animals are caught up in it. (The djinn, as inspired by Declare, have no physical bodies; rather, their thoughts and perceptions take the form of natural movements—the swirl of a whirlpool, a flock of birds, the milling of a crowd. They could be imprisoned in a given form, though, as in this case.)
• Personality: still trying to get the hang of this strange "morality" thing. Vain and showy, since he used to be a powerful prankster spirit, but gets little enough respect for it; he lives to be recognized and worshipped—not easy when you're made of rats. To that end he acts as if he were still a djinni at full power, with all that it entails, hence the adopted Arabic name (despite never having lived in Arabia). Along with that there is the standard djinni adherence to contracts and promises.
• Capabilities:
  • Speech. With the vestige of power left, Abu has the ability to make the squeaking of rats intelligible to humans; his voice is oddly musical and is more perceived than heard on top of the rats' squeaking. Does not carry well over telephone lines.
  • Recruitment. Abu generally has no trouble "recruiting" small animals into the swarm, up to the size of a terrier or so in size, though squirrels, ferrets, bats, and the like are preferred. The larger the animal the more it resists his presence; total mass of the animals is about thirty kilograms. Mammals are preferred for the most part; birds and reptiles escape his power. The power could be broken under certain circumstances (death, extreme uncontrolled panic), but this generally isn't a problem. The animals of the swarm could stretch out over an area of several city blocks without adverse effect.
  • Contract obligations. As per spirits and fae all over the world, Abu will occasionally make bargains and contracts with humans, though this is more of a personality trait than an actual power. What little of his power increases when the opposition defaults, though this cuts both ways; to a djinni, a contract is very serious business.
• Background: one of many djinn residing near Mount Ararat, Abu's early life is obscure in the extreme, since in spirit form the perception of identity and time by a djinni is very different than that of a physical being, and the memories don't translate well. At one time he was suspected to inhabited a flute, and a man used his powers to lure away the rats and then the children of Hameln; whether or not he actually did this or he merely claims credit for it, the legend became the basis for his name. He is tight-lipped about how he came to inhabit a swarm of rats, but existing records suggest that it was not of his own volition, and that Victorian-era mad science might have been involved somehow. Regardless, he moved to the city only fairly recently, and has then been ekeing (or eeking, depending on the level of fright involved) out a living.

• Name: Aldawolf Raske, AKA Kinetic

• Side: Non-Registered

• Physical Appearance: Aldawolf stands at a height of 6'5, having blue eyes and having short black hair that stands up. He has a clean shaven face, and generally tries to keep it that way. He doesn't have a costume, although he's been thinking about making one. For now, he sticks with jeans, an undershirt and a white hooded jacket.

• Personality: Aldawolf tries to be friendly and good, but he gets frustrated with things easily, not so much as getting angry as getting impatient. . Aldawolf does his best to be optimistic, trying to look on the better side of things, but is still sensible. He does his best to do good around the city, but being new to the super-hero game, he's still trying a balance between saving people and his own personal life.

• Powers: Enhanced Speed, and the ability to manipulate raw energy. He can use it to form concentrated plasma blasts from his hand, or store a massive amount of energy in his hand to give himself a more powerful punch. He can also use forces to hover above the ground, but it's hard for him to actually fly. If very prepared and making a concentrated effort, he could potentially block or null a very powerful attack, depending on what type it is. Electricity, fire and other things he can counter. He doesn't so much as create a force field as he nulls the damage, trying to disperse it elsewhere. This requires a large amount of concentration and tends to take a lot of power.
• Other Skills:
• Background/Origin: Aldawolf was born in New York, living with a fairly stable lower-middle class family of Eastern European descent. He grew up in a fairly good setting,

and around age 7 his father landed a good job in Megalopolis, his wife and 2 sons going with him there. There, Aldawolf saw the superheroes of Megalopolis, and looked up to them. He attended school there, and it was in High School during a science lab involving electricity that he discovered his powers to manipulate plasmas and energy to his will. He thought he could be like the super heroes of Megalopolis, and use his powers for good, but ultimately decided against it, deciding instead to graduate high school and enroll in Medical School. It was during this time he was walking down the streets of Megalopolis when he witnessed a bank heist, and heard gunfire. Remembering what he was capable of, he ran inside, hoping to help the situation. He walked in to a mess of wounded civillians, some dying. He did his best to save those he could, and he looked again at what had taken place. He valued human life, and hated to see what had happened here. He then thought about actively preventing these incidents, hoping he could save more lives doing that than as a doctor. After thinking about over the course of a week, he dropped out of medical school, and went out into the streets of Megalopolis to save whoever he could from crime.

...Actually, you have a point. If you're a Non-registered, then you really wouldn't want to be making yourself known. Aladawolf, you're probably going to want to either take out the public identity bit, or make yourself registered. If you're registered, then you won't have to worry about having a public identity.

Okay, um, I guess I'd like to try this out...

Name: Toby Snow "Heavy Metal"

Side: Registered

Physical Appearance: A girl in her late teens/early 20's, with bright red hair to mid-back, about 5'6", muscular but with an hourglass figure. Wearing a plain pink tank top, a black denim vest, baggy black cargo jeans, pink sneakers, spiked leather bands on each wrist and a studded leather belt, a pair of large black sunglasses that cover her entire face above her nose, and a pair of wireless headphones. Armed with a large battle axe◊, and also carries two tactical tomahawks◊ for backup, attached to her belt at each side. Her appearance gives more of an impression of a girl than a woman, even though she's clearly an adult.

Personality: A bit bipolar. Toby is usually irreverent and sarcastic, but fun-loving, boisterous, and eager to please, but sometimes becomes quiet and withdrawn, seeking to avoid others and keep to herself. Somewhat immature and can be mischevious. Tends to be easily distracted when not involved in something she wants to do.

Powers: Normally, just a regular Badass Normal, quick, strong, and a excellent combatant, proficient with her axes. However, when Toby is exposed to music of any sort, she gains boosts to her speed, strength, agility, and endurance, to superhuman levels. The power increases depends on the tones, beats, speed, and type of music, and experimentation has shown her that the higher levels of heavy metal and hard rock give her the best results and thus is her typical choice. Her fighting style tends to modify itself along with the music to a degree...softer music may result in a variety of Waif-Fu or Dance Battling, while harder music lends itself to a more smashmouth, street-fighting brawler.

Other Skills: Toby's powers and general love of music lend themselves to her being an excellent dancer, in both classical and modern styles. She also rather likes sharp things, and has a great deal of skill with her axes and other knives, usually able to achieve a clean cut through anything her weapons can handle. She is also fairly intelligent and well-read, with an intense interest in physical sciences.

Background/Origin: Toby was a fairly normal girl from a normal nuclear family, who passed the early years of her childhood fairly uneventfully. Around the age of 12, though, a scuffle with a schoolyard bully during a school concert ended with Toby very nearly killing the boy, displaying a strength unheard of in a young girl. The girl's concerned family sent her to a great number of specialists before a recreation of the events of that day revealed her power trigger. Though no one could figure out how exactly she had gained this power, after much discussion, Toby agreed to join a government project to hone and perfect her abilities and put them to use for the good of the people, and spent her teen years being trained and educated to master her unusual abilities, along with her regular schooling. Contrary to what most people might think, Toby was treated well and is actually very happy with the results of the program, and still willingly works with various government agencies to help curtail the problems of the world. She was among the first superheroes to join with registration, and while sympathetic to the community of non-registers, can't understand their reluctance to be registered.

Miscellaneous Notes: Toby has a specially made MP 3 player in her pockets at all times in order to supply herself with music. It's much harder to break than your regular device, but sufficient force will still do the job. A government contact will usually give her a new one, but in the time before that happens, she will seek out one herself from other places.
