Jon should have sent Sansa in his stead.

Felt this was weaker than the first episode. It was one episode of the pieces setting themselves up in the chessboard followed by Euron Greyjoy hurling a wrench at everything.

Highlights: - Hot Pie is fucking immortal. So good to see him again.

- ARYA STARK is on her way. Her scenes were a highlight, particularly with Nymeria.

- Varys vs Daenerys was by far this episode's best scene. Varys is our one true hero as always. Praise be to the Spider.

- Euron Greyjoy is an utter madman. I quite enjoyed the final brawl, as outlandish as it was. COME GIVE YOUR UNCLE A KIIIIIIIIIIIIISSSSS.

- Sand Snakes were tolerable.

- Despised what they did with Theon though. Really fucked up his character arc.

I liked the episode overall. It was a little slow in places, but it finished strong.

I don't know whether to be disappointed, annoyed, or proud of Jon. I truly don't understand why he didn't send Sansa to do it. She knows/was married to Tyrion, she's one of the last living Starks, and she would be much less conspicuous. And I mentioned this in the other thread, but why would tell everyone that he didn't really want to be king and that he's only doing it for them? That is sure fire way for your people to lose their faith in you.

But yes, the best parts were the Daenerys bits. However, the battle at the end was extremely well-done.

Jon's Kingship seems to be something unique as far as Westeros goes. He seems to function on a almost parliamentary basis, with his fellow Lords acting as a council and having a lot more bearing on his decisions, so Brutal Honesty and "You guys elected me, I never really asked for this shit" is consistent with his political workings. Jon and the Lords seem starkly clear on the fact Jon was elected as King, not born.

But I will agree he's a so-so King at best. He'd honestly make for a better Hand of the Queen to the hypothetical Queen of the North Sansa Stark. She's far more ruthless and aware of the realities of ruling.

[up]He's just too emotional to be king. A great man to look up to, sure, but he's held back by his nobility in a world that thrives on ruthlessness. He would make a wonderful hand and a FANTASTIC knight, but a king...maybe not in this reality.

That's kind of the thing though, his goals and the Lords' goals are conflicting since his main mindset is only on preventing the White Walkers while they're still focused on present day political disputes.

So yeah, I think this is a case where neither side is necessarily wrong.

Yeah, this episode wasn't as good. But hey, we got some Grey Worm and Missandei screen time!

This episode made me like Grey Worm a bit more.

Varys had th best scene of the episode.

Don't care about Sam or Fedora Jorah.

Daenerys' war council scene and Cersei/Jaime/Tarly scenes were good.

[up] Why would he? The only people we see him talking to are the Lannisters and he's got no reason to tell them about it - especially not if there are any rumours flying around about how they got their hands on two Valyrian swords.

Varys' scene was easily the best.

Nice to see Euron do something. Nice to see the Sand Snakes go. Sorta nice to see Obara and Nymeria remain Faux Action Girls to the bitter end.

Uuurgh the scales. Sorry but no. I dread to see the next Citadel episode, since they went from diarrhea to here - we are bound to witness something truly horrific.

Although honestly I expect those horrific things to happen to Ellaria and Tyene under Cersei - or the Mountain, or, more likely, to Tyene while Ellaria watches because Cersei is petty like that - or Yara under Euron. Hey, we hadn't have a straight rape of a gay character yet! That would be original! While I don't mind the way things are unfolding because it is necessary for tension - you can't have the "heroic side" obviously holding all the cards as it appeared at the end of episode 1 - I fear the torture porn to come, which incidentally might target three female characters. I won't say anything yet because obviously it hasn't aired and I do not want any kind of "the spoilers say that X will happen thank you but I am a bit worried. I mean, sure, we got a very sweet scene between two very sweet characters, but even having the two most beautiful people in the show naked together is not enough to make me ignore a future bloodbath.

I think Yara's Bi The Way, since she said boy or a girl, depending on the port.

Yara being bi was established during her and Theon's stint at the brothel in Volantis

I just realized something. Wasn't Daenerys looking for a king to marry at some point? Why invite Jon Snow (a fellow ruler) to Dragonstone to "bend the knee" when she could just, you know, pop the question? Although, I guess being the Queen of Everything, including the North, is better.

Huh...I never thought about how Daenerys' plan is to literally Take Over the World.

Do you think Jorah Mormont should actually feel pain because of Sam's treatment? Wasn't the first sign of greascale in the books that you don't feel anything at the afflicted areas?

Didn't she actually allude to possibly letting some of the kingdoms ruling themselves (at least semi-autonomously) in the last season or so? Provided they actually show up and make their case instead of outright defying her?

Yeah, Dany's a wonderful character and a force of nature, but her ambition is starting to contradict itself.

Apparently, she's also been under fire (no pun intended) for being too "high and mighty", "entitled" and "arrogant" which I find very strange because...she's a Queen. Like in the very literal sense, she's a true monarch and conqueror, even though she began the series with absolutely nothing. I don't see complaining about Cersei being petulant and arrogant.
