So, this is a thread for newbies to the Game Of Thrones universe to discuss the show without running the risk of being spoiled.
And that's any kind of spoiler, btw, even the "wait and see" kind of spoiler. Everyone should post here if they want to, just be mindful of what you're saying people.
So. Queef of Darkness, amiright? Holy shit the ending to that episode was amazing.

Really? I could have sworn that like half was new footage.
Children of Dievas - my webcomic about the Northern CrusadesIt's a decently put together fan trailer. At first glance it looks somewhat like an actual trailer, but it essentially stitches together footage from previous seasons and sometimes adds a snow effect to make it seem like winter has come. Way in the beginning you can see Jaimie and Tyrion as snow falls next to them, that's footage taken from Jaimie's meeting with the Blackfish and Tyrion's farewell to Varys just with a added snow effect.
As the trailer proceeds they basically tack on footage from everything they can. When Sean Bean briefly shows up, that's footage from Black Death, most of "Jon Snow's" "new" scenes and dialogue are lifted from Pompeii (observe his hair is wrong and he's using Gladiator-ish armor, which doesn't match at all with Game of Thrones's aesthetic). They tack on a lot of things from Vikings towards the end, the red flag being the fact no one in Game of Thrones uses round Viking shields and Viking drekar longships.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Which is a damned shame, really. Knorrs and longships were some of the best ships of the time for raiders. It's so weird seeing ships with castling built into them being used as raiders ships.
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youSo this was the original dialogue for Stannis' death:
STANNIS: Bolton’s got women fighting for him?
BRIENNE: I don’t fight for the Boltons. I’m Brienne of Tarth.
[This means nothing to Stannis.]
BRIENNE: I was Kingsguard to Renly Baratheon. I was there when he was murdered by a shadow with your face.
[Stannis was not expecting this confrontation today, but fuck it, why not.]
BRIENNE: You murdered him? With blood magic?
[Stannis nods.]
STANNIS: I did.
BRIENNE: In the name of Renly of the House Baratheon, first of his name, rightful King of the Andals and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and protector of the realm, I, Brienne of Tarth, sentence you to die.
[Stannis nods. He’s ready.]
BRIENNE: Do you have any last words?
[Stannis considers.]
STANNIS: Do you believe in the life to come?
[Brienne nods]
STANNIS: I don’t. But if I’m wrong, and you’re right… tell Renly I’m sorry when you get there. I don’t imagine I’ll see him wherever I’m going. (beat) And my daughter. Tell her… tell her…
[‘Sorry’ doesn’t even begin to cover what he feels about Shireen. The thought of it brings tears to his eyes, and he’s not going to die weeping in front of a woman he doesn’t know.
Stannis stares up at her.]
STANNIS: Go on, do your duty.
[Brienne raises her sword and brings it down with a mighty swing.]
That... sounds fan-ficcy. And out of place. Is there ever an afterlife mentioned in Westerosi religion the other Nobles ever talk about?
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youThe afterlife reference is odd but I actually like the dialogue. It's a nice end to Stannis's arc in the show, to have him realize all his Knight Templar worldview he had beforehand was wrong but now it's too late to change it.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Oh, definitely. I agree the dialog is well written; it just sounds out of place.
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youthere's mention of the Seven having seven hells and that's it.
Beric implies there's nothing after death IIRC, while the books go into detail on the beliefs if followers if the Old Gods and Children of the Forest.
Well Melisandre seems surprised when Beric tells her that there's no afterlife so she probably believed there was before.
And the books make a reference to there being 7 hells. Actually the show does too. Remember Arya screaming SEVEN HELLS in season one?
And I know the ironborn believe that iron man being drowned means the Drowned God needs a new oarsman and you'll taken down to his watery halls to be feasted and have their every need satisfied by mermaids.

"You can't change the world without getting your hands dirty."Right, but there's no other discussion of an afterlife at all. Even with all that, the line looks out of place.
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youI think the problem is the one that D & D recognized. Why would he be telling Brienne this?
Also I laughed that the script had this right before the Battle of Winterfell:

"You can't change the world without getting your hands dirty."I chuckled at.
I picture Stannis saying this in Inner Monologue. In a "yeah fuck my life" way.

"You can't change the world without getting your hands dirty."So Qyburn has forever been immortalized in the English language:
The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals (the nation's largest appeals court) issued an opinion on the case of FLORES V. CITY OF SAN GABRIEL, in which Judge John Owens wrote an opinion relating the current case to an antiquated system for calculating fair wages and benefits.
Mc Laughlin comes very close to a qyburnian resurrection of the Jiffy June standard.
Naturally the report was set down and accepted into public record, so big ups to our man Qyburn, free thinker, chainless maester, necromancer extraordinaire, and the man behind the Mountain - whose name shall live on as an official legal reference term for necromancy for the Judiciary of the United States of America.
Qyburnian resurrectuon - grotesque resurrection
"You can't change the world without getting your hands dirty."Because why reference Mary Shelley when you can reference George R. R. Martin?
Ceterum censeo Morbillivirum esse eradicandum. That is awesome. Although yeah, Small Reference Pools.
I know judges occasionally make pop culture references in their decisions, but that's just lame.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyReading a bit up on the case (in my other life I deal with Labor and Employment Law), it actually makes some sense to use Qyburn as a reference rather than Frankenstein. So basically, the judge wrote a concurring opinion in which he agreed with the result but commented that he thought the majority was trying to bring back to life a legal standard which the U.S. Supreme Court had struck down, and were basically pretending as if the standard was still good law, even though it isn't.
So it's the combination of trying to bring the dead back to life and unconvincingly pretending hat what you get is alive rather than a zombie.
With Frankenstein it was very much the opposite. Most people who encounter "Adam" never guess he was ever dead. He's very much alive.
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youIsn't he supposed to be so good-looking that it goes straight into the uncanny valley?
"You can't change the world without getting your hands dirty."My God, the comedic delivery on these lines. You can feel them drop.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Olenna Tyrell is best Tyrell
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youXD ZING
I was trying to go for that but I couldn't quite figure out the delivery.
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for you
That's pretty obviously fanmade, dude.
