The manga it runs in is a hybrid Shojo / Josei actually, it's just Girls' Love targeted at girls with a reader base that is 80% female.

And it does not carry Hentai, Ecchi yes. Hell the work is extremely tame compared with actual Yuri Hentai.

On the topic of Gokujou Drops, the main character is a 'high school freshman', so 14/15 years old.

While skimming I found:

  • Chapter 3 contains an attempted...molestation on the main girl? (Bare breasts are seen in a few panels; it doesn't go beyond getting the girl's breasts grabbed and some suggestive teasing)

  • Chapter 4 has a fingering/groping scene (no nudity, only detail of girl in her bra and finger between legs shown)

  • Chapter 6 has the main girl masturbating while watching two girls have sex (bare breasts are seen)

  • Chapter 10 has an "exercise"/partially involuntary yuri scene (bare breasts are seen)

  • Chapter 15 has a scene where the protagonist is teased/fondled and almost masturbated against her will (no nudity)

I'm not listing every single sexual scene because then I might as well just link to the manga. Every chapter has at least a sexually suggestive kissing/fondling scene, and there are a lot of almost sex scenes where the main girl and her 'master' get interrupted.

High school in Japan is from 16 years up.

Fifteen. The first year of Japanese high school is the sophomore year of an American highschool, so a first year there would be 15-16.

The way Japan officially counts ages for its school system it is 16, 17, 18 for high school. Someone might actually be 15 but since they were born on that year they count as '16'.

It's odd but that's the way it works. It's why the girls in Negima are mostly 15 in their final year of middle school and Negi claims he is 10 at the start of the manga but he is really 9.

Just starting high school and no date given they just count as 16.

If they were in middle school that would be a whole other story.

No, that's just a different way of counting ages. You basically start off one year old. Most people don't use that system anymore.

If it's the beginning of the school year, the character is fifteen. Before the end of the year they'll generally be sixteen.

[up][up] The school system is one of the only places that still uses it, anyone born on Jan 1 to Dec 31st that year determines the year they start school even though the school year does not start till the first week of April.

Basically 'middle school bad, high school good'.

Komodin: Honestly, you probably don't need to worry about it. I'm not sure manga artists and whatnot really distinguish that much between age except basic kiddy/teen/adult stages. Kiddy very bad, adult fine, teens situational but by default probably okay more often than not.

Memers: I really don't feel like arguing about this anymore, if you don't mind. As I just noted, the distinction is really kind of meaningless.

That doesn't sound that bad to me. Sounds like everyone is 15-16 at least and it's mostly just general ecchi stuff. There's much worse stuff out there that we've let pass.

I'm just a bit weirded out that it's apparently a shoujo.

Then again Nana was also shoujo, but Viz put a big "Explicit Content" sticker on all the volumes.

Learning that 'high school freshman' doesn't mean what it means in the US changes my perspective a bit. The characters are older teens at least - over the Fanfic Recs age. There are frequent suggestive situations and partial nudity, but it doesn't even go to the level of other ecchi series we've kept involving older teens, and appears to have a heartfelt story outside of the lewdness.

Haou Airen

Haven't read this one but happened across the page. Says it's classified as Shoujo, protagonist said to be 17, but the trope list sounds a bit. . .skeevy/rape-happy, and it seems a few sites hosting it have it under an 18+ label with "explicit content" warnings here and there. YMMV page says Viz passed it up for licensing in North America. Worth a check, or no?

[up] Anime News Network has the manga listed as having "Significant" objectionable content (used to be 'Teenagers': 'bloody violence, swearing, and/or nudity'). The fact that it didn't get 'Intense' means that there's probably no explicit depictions of sex.

However, Mangaupdates has it listed as "Smut" and "Mature" with a very large "Rape" tag. I'm getting mixed signals here.

Some mentions of content I found from reviews:

"There's a lot of sex scene. I don't think it's that explicit cuz I have seen worse, but some may say it is. Everything from the waist down is covered by some bed sheets or another body. But the top (breasts) is often exposed, especially towards the middle til end. Mostly it just leaves things to imagination, even if it doesn't take a lot of that. So...yea. Just to warn you of that."

"Also there's something to the drawing (def. the pigtails...) that makes me think pedophilia whenever I see the 2 together. Erg. Shudder."

The manga ran in the magazine "Shojo Comic", which is intended for late middle school/high school aged girls. Despite the heavy sex tropes, I don't think this falls under porn...it's only that second review quote that's given me pause. She doesn't really look 17; her appearance reminds me most of Asuka from Evangelion, who is 14.

EDIT: Ugh. I don't mean to target anime/manga like it seems like has been the case lately, but I just remembered a work I saw a review of a long time ago which heavily criticized its lolicon themes called Kyou No Go No Ni. I looked the work up and yep, we have a page for it. I'm skimming through the manga at the moment and while some chapters are clean, some chapters feature fifth-graders in quite suggestive situations (a girl stripping down to her underwear to weigh herself, albeit with Barbie Doll Anatomy, and a shot of a fifth-grade girl in a fifth-grade boy's lap specifically made to look like oral sex). This is a seinen, by the way.

Okay so what are we actually presenting to be added to the queue? I'm waiting for someone to take a second look at DEAD Tube to see if it's worthy of being flagged. The perv angel anime needs a second glance by someone. Gokujou Drops sounded like it might be okay? We need some actual organization in here.

Also, while we're at it... Stockholm looks... not good. Problem is, I can't actually find this damn fic to read it. It's been wiped from FIM Fic and F Fnet.

Our page for it has a weird "this totally isn't pedo" defense in a few places on it, and I've read that its original description did say that Foalcon (underage pony sex - YES I KNOW I'M SORRY) was present in the fic. But, again, it appears to be wiped from the internet.

There's also the issue that the person who wrote it tends to cause massive wank explosions, so this fic's contents may be misrepresented on the internet because of that. Still, if someone can find this thing, we should probably take a look at it.

[up] [up] I'd like someone else to give their opinion on how old the main girl looks in Haou Airen and review a couple of chapters. Kyou No Go No Ni I'd like someone else to look at as well, particularly the OVA and manga.

I think we all agreed Gokujou Drops is fine.
