Eh, I wouldn't read too much into it. Domain names and shit get bought all the time just as preventive measures. I don't see Nintendo making a game called "Super Mario 4."

Not like a single one of Mario's games has actual consistency - numbering them as sequels is pointless unless it's one of the RPG games.

Super Mario World was already subtitled Super Mario Bros. 4 in Japan. That makes this whole thing pointless, even if you don't take the NSMB games into account.

Who says it's going to result in an actual game? I'd imagine they're doing so just to make sure no one else has it.
I recall that Activision did a similar thing back when Guitar Hero was still being made, taking domains for classic games like "Drum Hero".

Could Nintendo be planning another numbered entry to the Super Mario Bros franchise? Will we be seeing Super Mario Bros. 4 sometime in the future? Will it be different from Super Mario World, which is Super Mario Bros. 4 in Japan?
