Why is that sad? O.o
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.We can't have anime on Western tropes.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerOk, not sad seriously. But yea, if a Japanese example is more like the western one, we should put it there?
I think people are a little too hung up on this "Japanese example" vs. "Western example" thing. We do use the same tropes quite frequently. If it fits the trope, it goes there.

Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.I was mostly joking. Examples should go where they fit, regardless of the medium's origin.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerI was talking more to animeg, I got that you were joking from the emote. :)
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.I should use more emoticons... But I do get confused about the Japanese/Western examples and whether we're allowed to use Japanese names if it's more prevalent and called that there, even though Western works use it as well.
Alright, it looks like we're mostly in agreement, so let's check on our options:
Option A
- Soft split the Zettai Ryouiki grades to A, B and S subtropes, leaving the main Zettai Ryouiki as a supertrope.
Option B
- Leave Zettai Ryouiki as it is, and use the grades internally to divide examples.
Meanwhile, is the western variant distinct enough from Stocking Filler to YKTTW Golden Thigh Ratio?

"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerI think it is a common enough subtrope to spin off, given the number of Western examples on ZR, and it'll keep ZR from being misused for Western works (hopefully). I'll write up a YKTTW in a bit.
Option C
Mention the symbolism of the grades on the page, but don't soft split the examples.

Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.Good one, didn't think on it.
Hmmm, am I good to make a page action crowner?
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerFaye isn't one of the grades. I think the shorts version to make action girls more feminine is something else. It's also a trope, but it's not the same as the ZR grades.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI thought Faye was the blatantly sexual type.
She is blatantly sexual, but there's no innocence at all in her. She doesn't fit that version of the trope. She does fit the trend though that action girls in shorts will get very long stockings as a way to soften and feminize them.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickYea, I was talking about the western split we were thinking of when this is used as sexy sex appeal, no innocence.
Names are just place holders, but I think ideally where we want to head is this:
- Golden Thigh Ratio: Fanservice supertrope.
- Zettai Ryouiki: Asian specific variation with the three grades and personality types.
- Action Girl Shorts And Socks: Actions girl wears shorts and thigh highs to help soften and feminize her.
Oh, I rather like that distinction as well.
Page action time?
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - Fighteer^^I like that. Possibly with an option to soft or hard split ZR into A, B, and S.
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.That could work.
Rarely active, try DA/Tumblr Avatar by pippanaffie.deviantart.comS is really the only one we could really split. A and B are more of a gradient. Personality slides as you move from one letter to the other, and it would cause a fair bit of arguing if we did over who fit where better. A and B are also most easy to spot when there's both in the same work as a lot of times they're used in Betty and Veronica relationships.
I am in favour of making a crowner though since people seem to support it.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI too think that separate tropes will get us many unnecessary arguments on how long stockings are every time, so I think it would be best to confine them in the page if we use the grades. And only soft split S.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerNot in favor of splitting A & B (hard or soft). Hard-splitting S might work but sounds a bit too specific. Soft-split of S would be OK. Other than that, I like shima's suggestion in 117.
Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered.I created a YKTTW for Golden Thigh Ratio (working title - may need to be changed). If we don't end up going that route, it can be discarded. If we do, it's already baking and that's that much less time we have to wait on it.

Crown Description:
Not all options are mutually exclusive, but some are. Exercise judgement.
We could call the western sexy type Golden Thigh Ratio and split them. Sadly, Faye'd have to go on there.
