[up][up]Wait, really? Cool! Not often you see a female character with a Lantern Jaw of Justice. Even Kale's jaw in Super Saiyan Berserk isn't that broad. Though the emphasis implies that our initial assumption was entirely intended. Also, it's interesting that she, the Angel, is the student in her relationship with her Kaioshin and Hakaishin. I was expecting all the Angels to be like Whis, Vados, and the Daishinkan, glorified babysitters and teachers for the Gods of Destruction under their care.

You know I had been on some other forums about Dragon Ball and one of them brought up an interesting point about the writing of the the current arc. In Dragon Ball, Toriyama does kind of flesh out some of the combatants in the tournament even if we don't see some of them in later arcs but the Otherworld tournament arc and the current tournament arc, we only see a few characters get fleshed out and explored. That isn't to say that some of the characters don't have interesting designs, it just some of characters don't really get fleshed out but I could be wrong about that. Toriyama may not be greatest writers but he does flesh out a lot of his characters in tournament arcs as well as the series in general. With that of the way, It kind of makes you wonder how involved Toriyama is the anime series and how much Toei is writing the series?

I thought that it was fairly obvious that Toei and Toyotaro had more or less taken over the series?

Like, there was even a post about Toriyama only giving the vaguest of descriptions to Toei as to what was happening in Resurrection F

[up] Toriyama just gives them the bare bones and Toei attempts to create a good Dragon Ball show with those notes. Toei has lost some key people with a few exceptions being Nozawa so they cannot churn out the same product as they used to.

There are 80 fighters. How fleshed out do you honestly expect.

Because most tournaments don't have 70+ new characters :/

Do you have any idea how impractical it is to flesh all of these fighters and universes while still maintaining focus on U7.

Fair Enough. That is why I really wish they stuck with the traditional tournament format as it would had been much easier and they can justify getting rid of certain characters. Most of the fighters are just fodder and only a few fighters get any kind of focus. If Dragon Ball Super intends to last longer, it needs to really flesh its setting and characters.

Ranfan, Giren, and Panput got about as fleshed out as most fighters in the Tournament of Power. Aside from those three, the rosters for all three Tenkaichi Budokais were either major recurring characters, major new characters, or Nam.

Really, I don't know how this "the previous tournaments fleshed out their characters" complaint is supposed to make any sort of sense. Of all the new one-off characters introduced in the old tournaments, 3/4 got about as much development as most of the Tournament of Power fighters.

There is a massive difference between introducing a handful of one-note characters and introducing 60+ fuckos who won't go anywhere

This was an inevitable result when they went with an 80-person battle royale. But that just makes the concept of an 80-person battle royale criticisable

Which is exactly why I don't believe that the battle royale thing was a good idea. It might had been a good idea in concept but in execution, it seems to only focus on a few characters and they don't fleshed out too much.

The biggest issue is the 10 fighters per team stipulation.

Reduce the number of fighters, and that leaves more room to flesh out other characters, and make their fights interesting.

Reducing the number of fighters could also allow for a standard tournament format, instead of a battle royal. 80 fighters is too much for anything other than a battle royal.

Hmm... what do you think the teams would look like after you trimmed them down?

Here's my thinking:

U2: Brianne, Sanka Ku, Su Roas, Jimizu, Zirloin

U3: Nigrisshi, Narirama, Maji Kayo, Biarra, Katopesra

U4: Ganos, Monna, Majora, Darkori, Nink

U6: Hit, Cabba, Caulifla, Kale, Frost

U7: Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, #17

U9: Bergamo, Lavenda, Basil, Chappil, Hop (basically, the Trio de Dangers plus any two others)

U10: Murichim, Rubalt, Obuni, Napapa, Lilibeu

U11: Toppo, Jiren, Dyspo, Kahseral, Kunshi

I actually really like the idea of an 80-person tournament. I don't think they ALL need to be fleshed out, though each universe should have at least one developed character.

Kind of defeats the purpose of the whole "UNIVERSE GETS ERASED" premise if we don't care about at least some of it's inhabitants.

Since tomorrow we’re getting Mentor Vegeta episode has it ever been said why Vegeta never used the Dragonballs to bring back U7 Saiyans? Like even before he fully became a good guy, he never bothers after Freeza is killed and he basically has full run of Earth for 3 years with literally no one in his league since Goku was lost in space.

Do you know what people want the most? Something somebody else has.

Because he doesn't care lol. Whatever made you think Vegeta ever cared about reviving his race? He let Raditz stay dead, and killed Nappa when he stopped being useful.

Ditto on thinking that Vegeta never really cared.

Well that, or after his character development, he might have thought that bringing back a very belligerent race would be too much of a bother. I mean, realistically, how WOULD you keep the U7 saiyans in line?

Fear.

Saiyan's were pretty much nothing more than thugs so just prove your top dog & they'll kowtow in line.

Ya have to kill some of them or worse to make an example though.

Or you know, go Super Saiyan in front of all of them and terrorize them with the fact that he's a Saiyan of Legends. Granted that might lead to them worshiping him as a god to the Saiyans, which you know Abridged!Vegeta would love.

Vegeta as a villain didn't care for his people are individuals, just as a general group. Vegeta now could try to bring back his race, but the Super Dragonballs are the only way they could come back

  • Earth Dragonballs: Can bring back an individual dead more than a year. So he could wish back Raditz and Nappa, but if he tries to wish back his dad he'll appear in the vacuum of space
  • Namekian Dragonballs: Can bring back people any amount of times, but not if they've been dead longer than a year. So all the other Saiyans are out of the running
