Add something better? I'm pretty sure that outside husks, Collectors, and yahg the volus were the only bipedal species left. Even then we got a whole bunch of new characters from previously used races.
Granted Leviathan could be used to handwave why we get come husk or Collectors...

I hope they do set Mass Effect 4 after Mass Effect 3: on Earth, in the Fallout-esque post-apocalyptic wasteland that was created after the Reapers were destroyed, the Citadel exploded, and all the Relays in the galaxy destroyed.
