Well, at least some of the potholes are actually used correctly.
It does seem like the trope is far more common than it appears here, though.
It's also dialogue.
The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.Speaking of which, not to be confused with Hey, Wait!, another Stock Phrase name.
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.Potholes are still potholes. Most potholes of understatement were correct, but that didn't make them proper uses of the trope.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid. My point was that that they don't confuse the meaning of the trope so much, which means the name isn't ambiguous. If you say they're not using the trope correctly, it's not for that reason. That has to do with potholing policy, which I'm not particularly clear on.
The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.Potholing is bad if it's just a troper making an example, instead of noting that it happened in a work (in a way that's still a little relevant to the example*).
If it's shoehorned in, then it's a bad example, which is what the wicks in that section are.
And that can be due to a name, since they think the name is a license to snark, not a trope about something In-Universe.
* Like there is Stuff Blowing Up and a character makes a genuine Understatement comment related to the explosions. Any example noting that the character said it can pothole that trope legitimately.

I think this is a valid trope, but the name doesn't help. The term is quite often used in this trope, but it's not only used for it. It's non indicative. Or if it is, it causes troper potholes.
Now for a wick check, 15 out of 41, with 99 inbounds (which might qualify for not thriving as well).

- Victorious: Might be another similar trope.
