Buy Them Off is "An insincere Atoner attempts by his good deeds to stifle any guilt he feels, or buy off his victims so they will not seek Revenge when they learn he has wronged them. He often resorts to material assistance, because personal help prods his conscience and makes him feel worse."
Essentially someone using bribery to make up for what wrong they did or avoid punishment for said wrong. The problem is the trope is used whenever someone tries to bribe or buy off something:

Seriously, that's 4 of the first 5 things on the Related to (The last one is a Zero Context Example). And they are ALL bad. The page itself has misuse. The title being WAY broader than the trope implies doesn't help.
