We asked for it. I did on page 8. Ony one person stepped forward, and of course, Shimaspawn has already started her work.

The thing is, why has this festered? Why do people see creepy stuff and haven't removed it so far, before it became a problem? That's where the willingness part came in.

Aaaaaaaah, Septimus is a ninja.

Because our Family Friendly policy didn't disallow them, and I honestly didn't see 99% of the stuff on a page like Undeboobs as creepy. They weren't explicit and they weren't NSFW. If I'd known it was against wiki policy, I'd have axed it, but I didn't and my own personal judgement was that it was a little adolescent at times, but essentially harmless.

And again, this is one thread, without any outside exposure, that's only been open for two days. That's not a lot of time for volunteers to find it and volunteer, is it? I just found it this morning, myself. I'd be happy to help clean up.

I don't think Underboobs is a good example of something that was cut because it had creepy things in it (especially after Shima cleaned it) - as I said, the cutlist looks more like a single troper wanted to kill two breast pages. It's stuff like Innocent Panties and O Ring Orifice that you can pretty much tell right away: "This is just wrong, who writes that stuff? Why don't you nuke these examples?"

Basically, things that will have you reach for Brain Bleach.

[up]And Innocent Panties had pedophiliac content in it, I've heard.

Also, we can't just nuke the examples without a tedious TRS thread and a free slot in there. That's what we need moderators for.

I've said before in this topic that there are quite a few pages I dislike, but while I personally dislike them doesn't mean I am going to go to war against their right to be on the wiki, and the same thing goes with comments I don't appreciate. I can't enforce my standards cause I have no power here. But when The Powers That Be decide that those certain tropes and those kind of examples are no longer wanted here I am going to throw my hat in with support.

@Fast Eddie: The tool you posted in #319 is great, but it doesn't find things lined in curly-bracket markup. I know that links to Token Loli keep cropping up since pages with curly-bracket markup were missed by the replacement script. Is it possible to write a tool that will find curly-bracket links too?

[up][up] Or just fix the Related To bug. It's the reason why we have all this mess in the first place (Granted, it won't work retroactively, probably).

@Lu Yes, please do and clean up the ones you find.

[up][up] People tend to see NSFW as exposing genitals. They'll post dozens of women in skimpy bikinis even with that rule and mention that they were SFW when removed. Lu's wording is more likely to stop what we need stopped.

I do think that a big part of the reason for the creepy stuff sticking around is because there wasn't a policy forbidding it. That's why we're writing a policy and I am personally spearheading a clean up effort.[up]

Depends entirely on the badness level and the potential for creepiness.

[up]By that standard, Innocent Panties or anything similar and O Ring Orifice would have to stay locked (if they are restored as well).

I've not much of an idea how to deal with the Boobs pages.

I'm going to take a crack at making a new version of O Ring Orifice with a new name and an non-sexual description for people who can eat entire sandwiches in one bite and the like.

I've been removing creepy sexual stuff for nigh three years. Of course, my threshold for "creepy" may be higher than some people's, and lower than others. I don't really mind if the bluest-nosed readers aren't happy, though at the same time I feel no responsibility to people who think TV Tropes has to have porn to represent tropes honestly.

[up]I say TV Tropes just has to admit porn exist, and happens in works when relevant to a page. That seems to be what most pages follow, which I think is a good standard.

BTW, does anyone else find it funny that the thread title is "embarrassing crap", instead of "embarrassing things"? It's like going "Yeah, it's crap, but it's also embarrassing. We want crap we are proud of!"

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.

[up][up]I'm for embracing the existence of porn, as we do all media. We don't have to host porn (not that anyone's advocating that we do so, but if I'm going to strawman one side I may as well strawman the other).

My overall point being that the reason creepiness piled up is not that people were deliberately ignoring it, but a combination of "I see nothing I judge creepy here" and "I think it's creepy, but clearly other people don't, so I'd better leave it"*

and "eh, not my problem."
