via Anime News Network. And it's premiering next month!

While I am excited, I'm finding it hard not to be skeptical, since we got an announcement like this last year, too. But then again, that "April" sounds pretty specific...

It wasn't the date that was screwed up last time, but the project type: A special was announced as a tv anime

Ladies and gentlemen: Lupin The Third: A Woman Named Fujiko Mine!

Thirteen episodes, awesome character designs, promises of the manga's sensuality, and it's focused on Fujiko. Can't wait!

Looks interesting, though I'm not entirely excited that the director is the person who directed Michiko to Hatchin.

Sorry for the double post but with the first episode aired, I just had to bump it up. Can I get anyone's thoughts on it?

I'd never seen any Lupin III before. Initial thoughts... had it not have been in Japanese I would have thought it was French. I did enjoy it though.

I thought it was amazing. The art style was heavily inspired by the original manga (it's about flippin' time!), and overall it was stylish, sexy, and the drastic change the franchise needs.

Two things bothered me though. One is that it wasn't very funny. Lupin III has always been a hybrid action/comedy series. Maybe justified due to having to set things up for the rest of the series. The other is Zenigata's new partner, Oscar. What role is he going to play? Why did he blush? Why did they feel the need to give Zenigata a bishounen partner? Hopefully, we'll find out more as it goes on.

Eagerly awaiting the next episode. I haven't been this into an anime series since...ever.

So, this is my real introduction to the franchise. I quite liked it! Very stylish, and not like anything I've seen for a while

Just saw the first episode this morning; I can't say I entirely approve. Might be that I was never a big fan of Fujiko in the first place, but man, I don't like her at all in this series.

The art style's entertaining, if a little needlessly flashy— it sorta reminds me of Gankutsuou or Mononoke.

I'm not sure how I feel about the characterization, though. Fujiko looks like she was flanderized into some sort of trigger-happy, conniving turboslut, and Zenigata is a lot more reserved and quiet than usual. Lupin seems about right (and whoever's voicing him is doing a really good Yasuo Yamada impression), though, which is probably the important thing. I'm also a little curious about that Oscar fellow.

I dunno, we'll see how it pans out.

Must say, Episode 2 had a major Cowboy Bebop vibe. Dai Sato at work, I guess.

I'm still gushing over the art style. Heh.

This particular incarnation of Jigen is considerably more badass than what I've seen in the other Lupin anime. Actually, that seems to be true for everyone.

So maybe Goemon is up next?

Funi has the first 2 episodes up (though you have to be subscribed on the site to watch). New eps will be Friday afternoons. :)

It. Is. Beautiful.

I love the art. I love the music. I love having The Vamp as a Villain Protagonist.

I started watching the episode and didn't care for it. Might give it another shot though. Seemed to be made on the same drugs as the creator of Gankutsuou used.

As much as I'm enjoying the show so far, I still kinda wish it was funnier.

Well, it IS based on a manga from the late 60s...

Oh, cool, as predicted, episode 3 is about Goemon. Interesting to note that unlike the other characters this Goemon is actually less "serious" than his other anime incarnation.

Having seen the raw for Episode 4, I gotta say it's the best one yet. From the sex scene being done in the style of the manga (and between Fujiko and Zenigata, even), to the Bloody Hilarious gag involving Lupin, Zenigata, and Oscar...it felt more like a "Lupin III" story than any of the others (although, being funny helped).

And I'll admit to cheering when Zenigata started chasing after Lupin.

Gotta say, Episode 4 was more like the Lupin I remember. Especially when it comes to Lupin and his wacky gadgets.
