I await the day when Activision and EA merge, then buy out all the little guys.

Have you seen the GDC presentations? There's some awesome tech at work there.

One big problem about that: the trailer had a disclaimer along the lines of "does not represent actual gameplay". They might be talking about all the building just being insta-built and all that, but I got a feeling they actually meant the graphics won't be as sharp in the final product.

I just hope that they don't dumb down the game too much, I really enjoyed Sim City 4 because of all the complexity so if I can do 50% of what was possible in 4 in 3d with a few polishing improvements(one wich was announced already) I can stand origin and all the EA bloodsucking.

About the online thing, I doubt they'd make the game multiplayer only, THERE HAS to be some way to play without having to interact with dirty mammals, hopefully I'm being dumb and it'll only be that you have to be online to play the game, even in SP.

I'm also not liking the idea of the bonus content and dlc, sure this was inevitable and all but I hope that doesn't mean they'll just crank out lots of style packs with a few building styles and such and then make it so you have to get them all so your city won't end boring(meaning I hope the game has as much building variety as 4 and that these "packs" are varied enough that you can make an entire city in one style without it looking dull).

Finally, I hope they keep regions from 4, I really liked making giant cities that were made of lots of maps and then slowly designing the rest of the region so that it looked like an entire state with little towns and roads that crossed lots of maps and such.

And finally finally I hope they keep modding in, It's EA and they are going to make billions of dlc so there's more that enough incentive to make the game impossible to mod like in 4 and after they did just that with sims 3 I sense a great danger to the modding community of Sim City 5.

Feels like a textbook example of what's wrong with the gaming industry today. Who knows what features go into the game, nobody cares, the important thing is premium content. Because why shouldn't your $50 game really cost $70?

[up][up][up]They won't. It seems as complex as Simcity 4 from the GDC videos.

[up] How about French firemen, London doubledeckers, the Eiffel Tower, the Big Ben and the Brandenburg Gate that cause the nearby buildings to change the style to more European?

So in God Mode you're also in charge of putting resources in as well? Hello, Oil Ocean City!

Also, I know that the graphics aren't definitive but that dangling animation the buildings have as you place them feels a tad too kiddy for a game they're trying to get people to take seriously (not to mention reminiscent of The Sims). Though I can see it grow on me.

[up]If their idea of DRM is based on Origin, I'm not mad at all. It will make things only a little complicated, but still comfortable.

I'm inclined to agree with JAF, given that the Used Game issue has always been secondary to the (generally futile) focus on game piracy.

Plus, if they were only considering used games, there are easier ways to deal with that specific issue than DRM, and the applications to used gameage is only secondary to DRM's main purpose and impetus for being created. Regardless of whether DRM is used to prevent used gameage, piracy is the reason DRM exists in the first place.
