When the opera singers cry, no one will be left dancing.
Tea is best served with fellow monsters. | MALWell... I think Madoka Magica would make a great ballet. But that's not quite the same as a musical.
Hmm.. the more I think about it the more I have to go with The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya. I know it seems crazy at first thought, but really- think about it. Think about all the different kinds of songs that could be sung for different iconic scenes. It really does cover the musical bases.
Hayate The Combat Butler is another possibility- although I think that would require rewriting the plot a bit. Not to change anything so much as to order it better and make it flow right for a musical.
Death Note: the opera
Seriously, this needs to happen.
Both Legend Of Galactic Heroes and Working!! have had live-action stage musicals/plays done on them, by the way, the latter of which was done only this year.
If I were to name a series, I'd probably go with Rose Of Versailles though.

Isn't Princess Tutu very fairy tale-ish already? I imagine it wouldn't be difficult to adapt into a musical.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - Fighteer@ OP: YES!
There's already two live action musicals for Utena.
But things I want to see with them that don't already have them...
...is everything an appropriate response? Not because I think they would be honestly good, but because they would either be that or so bad that they would be perfect for the thing.
Though if we mean honestly good...If you could somehow work out how to make a nice looking robot to just stand there and occasionally make noises and explosions while people in spandex suits punch and kick...G Gundam.
Domon must sing about his burning rage.
If someone wants to accuse us of eating coconut shells, then that's their business. We know what we're doing. - Achaan ChahIs it bad that I've been writing a Haruhi Suzumiya Broadway-esque musical? ._.
And seconding Princess Tutu.
Don't mind me. I'm just a creepy little lurker.Neon Genesis Evangelion, Monster, Death Note, and especially Five Centimeters Per Second.
If you want any of my avatars, just Pm me I'd truly appreciate any avatar of a reptile sleeping in a Nice Hat Read Elmer Kelton booksWriting a musical you say? Sounds fun, let me try!
{Scene opens with a Greek choir chanting eerily "Raalgon, Raalgon, mighty mighty Raalgon..." set to drums, while various royal handmaidens perform a spastic belly dance. Enter Dom}
Tylor! Worthy Opponent!
Tylor! Magnificent Bastard!
Is he a genius, or is he just lucky? I do not know I DO NOT KNOWWWWW ~!
(Enter Harumi} I do as Dom commands, but my heart is for -
Dom: Tylor! I will destroy you.
Tylor! As her highness commands!
The Raalgon will have their revenge!
{Dom grabs Harumi by the Standard Female Grab Area. Harumi goes limp} Harumi you will obey you will OBEYYYYY
...yeah that's all I've got, haha.
Because we don't have enough scenery chewing in modern theatre.

Don't mind me. I'm just a creepy little lurker.Loosely. Very loosely.
@ ATC: Forget musical, Death Note is clearly opera material.
K-ON! Since it's already about music.

Not a substitute for a formal medical consultation.Anybody who composes out there? I'm a writer, dancer, and an (ex-)musical theatre major - we could make Death Note The Musical happen. :D

Thirding Neon Genesis Evangelion, if it means that we get a Big Band tribute of Zankoku na Tenshi no Tēze.

Considering I've tried to convince my opera loving stepmother that Code Geass is a European Opera in all but name, I'd first nominate Code Geass. I also think that The Irresponsible Captain Tylor would make a great musical.
