I think that a supertrope would be better than expanding. All religions have their own shtick and are the ways that these things are parodies are better shown off on their own if there are enough examples of a specific religion.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickSo you're thinking we need Crystal Dragon Buddha and Crystal Dragon Muhammed also?
I'm thinking we need Fantastic Parody Religion (or something to that effect) as a supertrope with subtropes split off as they get enough examples and are distinct enough.

Not all of these are parodies.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid. That's a good title. Thank you.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickShould we check the wicks to see if this trope is being used more broadly than fantasy Christianity?
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid. Can't hurt, gives links that can be changed to the proper supertrope if/when it's made
I don't think I've ever seen this used as referring to anything but Christianity. I'm not saying we shouldn't make the supertrope—quite the opposite—I just doubt there's gonna be need for much cleanup.
Well let's do a wick check just to be sure.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Agree on the supertrope and the name Fantasy Counterpart Religion.
SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)I think it would relevant to mention that this TRS thread on the same trope and with a similar topic was closed without any definitive resolution (and without any explicit note justifying the closure, even). And for the curious, yes, there is extensive misuse happenning.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.^ Marq, the fact that the old thread is in the morgue indicates that it was closed sometime since early November of 2011. The last post in it was made in late July of 2011. That means that it was a dead thread for at least 3 months before it was locked and moved. It was locked without action because it didn't go anywhere.

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Alright, what would it take to reactivate such a thread, or start a new one to address the raised issue(s)?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. That would be what this thread is about...

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.The older thread touched on a slightly different issue in addition to the one in this thread, though: The trope being used as a character type (e.g. WH 40 K's God-Emperor of Mankind) instead of "Fantasy countperpart religion with strong visual/thematic similarities to (Roman Catholic) Christianity". I think there was a suggestion for splitting the name from the description into a new trope about said character type, and giving the original description a more indicative name.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Aaaaand I've just stumbled upon a major roadblock: Apparently, Crystal Dragon Jesus is not "Fantasy Counterpart Culture of Christianity". From the article description, near the bottom:

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. It looks like that according to the wayback machine, that line was added in 2009 when someone made the other trope but they didn't clean up the examples. It sounds like someone just added a confused "not to be confused with" line and no one ever bothered to change it.

I think that Crystal Dragon Jesus should apply to other Fantasy Counterpart Religions, and not just Christianity (so a Fantasy Counterpart Culture of India that worships an ersatz Hindu Pantheon should count as this, for example). Does anyone else agree with me?
