[up] They can...jump into boxes?

Cats can/have sense danger and warn their humans. Unfortunately cat body language is not as forceful as dog body language so it's more difficult to tell.

I kind of want finches, and God knows they've done fuckall for humanity.

Most of the cat owners I know are parents with older/teenage children, so there ya go.

Cats can purr. I liked my grandparents cat Shadow before he died because his purring was so odd and it was adorable.

Personally I prefer cats, probably because they're more like me, and also because they're smaller and more lithe than dogs. Also they seem more prone to go crazy than dogs, which people think is cute.

More like you? You leave hairs all over the kitchen and crap in the living room? Remind me not to invite you over.

My personality fits cats better, too. I'd rather be mostly ignored than constantly pestered to throw a toy.

Many people are attracted to the internet because it's easier to handle than meatspace interaction. That might be why they like cats.

Why even pay the money for a pet that ignores you? Just buy a stuffed toy and throw it in the garden. Same effect and no vet's bills.

mostly ignored. My idea of a good animal relationship is a cat that lies around where you can reach it and doesn't mind being petted, and occasionally comes to you for attention when you're watching TV.

Hm. You know, all of those war dogs were on Entente/Allied side. Meanwhile, there is a picture of a German unit in Russia playing with a little kitten, and another of a German soldier in Italy with a little kitten.

Makes you wonder...tongue

[up][up][up][up][up][up]Personality wise. Although my hair does have an annoying tendency to get everywhere. Usually in my room or the bathroom though. Wish I didn't have such thick hair. I just puled another strand out just now.

[up][up][up][up] Our cat we got free from one of my mum's friends. And we've only ever taken her to the vets once recently, when she was sick. Although I'm not sure if that's because she's a cat, or if it's because that's what we do about our health, too. (the only going when we're sick)

My dad was the only one who didn't want a cat. He's the only person she seems to like, and she'll go to him when he's watching TV and go to sleep on his chest. She's done this since she was a kitten. It's adorable. And recently she's come into my room to sleep on my bed in the night.

@Inverurie Jones

I find your lack of love for cats... disturbing.

Seriously, though, I like cats for being more independent than dogs. Hmm, if this analogy makes sense, having a cat is like having a roommate, while having a dog is like having a child.

Hum... It does make sense that cats are more compatible with a nerd's life style.

I think cats are more adorable than dogs, and that they sometimes do amusing things... But I'm more of a dog person, myself.

[up][up][up]It's kinda funny, our cat won't go near me and my dad, though she's perfectly fine around my mom or sister. We think she's scared of men.

I don't know why the internet likes cats, but my cat seems to like my computer. She keeps nipping at it and rubbing against it...

Awwww. By the way, if she rubs against computer, that means she wants to take it for herself

I doubt she's strong enough to do that.

She does this to all the mac computers in the house, but not the windows ones. I guess I'm right, she is a snob.

Mine think the monitor is kitty furniture. Because it's made of warm.

...and on another note, baby sand cat.

People love dogs because they almost always will love you back. You could go out, murder 17 people, and blow up a farmhouse, and your dog will still be waiting for you, wagging his tail, oh so happy to see you. (This isn't personal experience, or anything.)

People often love cats because they seem smarter. I wonder why...

Cats are smarter than dogs? Really?

Mine is dumber than a bag of bricks. And I've lived with five different dogs.

[up]Dogs aren't necessarily dumber, just more loyal. I'd say that's pretty admirable in a pet.

Heh, one reason I love cats is that I envy them. Because they are bastards who nevertheless manage to be adorable. Cared for despite not caring much for their owners, adored despite being mean, loved without loving back.

No, cats just seem smarter than dogs.

Think about it, who seem smarter: A person who over reacts to everything, or a person who sits there and stares at it?

You know, it actually makes me somewhat warm and fuzzy-hearted to consider that we live in a society that even in pets doesn't really look for blind following anymore...
