Yeah, I guessed about the force field. For three reasons. For one, the idiots next to me wouldn't SHUT UP and they figured it out. Two, I remembered the previews. And three, I recently read a book that played with the same idea.

I thought it was funny. It doesn't need to be the best deconstruction or anything at all like that. A movie that makes me laugh at its jokes while relatively enjoying the rest of the film has succeeded. And Tophe— I mean, Marty was great.

To add to the discussion: for what it's worth, I love horror films and I especially liked this film. Not as an actual horror movie, I never would watch it to feel scared at all, but I would definitely pair it against the Fright Night remake that just came out a few years ago to have a really fun albeit not necessarily scary night.

It's nice to have a funny horror movie that isn't facepalm inducing. I have been sick of the Scary Movie movies from the get-go.

Just got back from the theater.

We had actually watched a let's play of SCP containment breach before heading out. At the climax all I could think was "We have multiple containment breaches"

So yeah, I had a lot of fun. The movie was so meta it hurt. If you can't watch a movie while thinking you'll probably not like this piece as it'll make little sense.

Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?

I didn't really see it as meta, but that's just me. I mean, I saw it as symbolic of meta things, but not actually meta.

At least not traditionally meta.

So does the world explicitly end at the end of the movie or is just the Ancient Ones are released and stated they're going to end the world? Because I see a couple possibilities:

  • If the film ultimately does well, then the Ancient Ones are ultimately appeased by these events and withdraw their wrath.
    • If a sequel comes of this, then the Ancient Ones are actually demanding a remake of this event and film is a deconstruction of sequels.
  • If the film doesn't end well, world ends.

Was the forcefield meant to be a surprise? Because it was in the trailer.

Considering how it was foreshadowed in the beginning...

I think the reason it was foreshadowed so early is so that during the whole big buildup to the jump, with the heroically swelling music, the audience would be sitting there smiling and shaking their head at the absurdity of it, since they knew it wouldn't work. That's what I was doing anyway.

A lot of people I know forgot about the force field — or remembered it at the last moment, or were freaking out, because they remembered it.

Which is why it was important they followed it up with a "Springfield Gorge" moment. If you don't remember, you get a shock, if you do remember, then you have a well built up Epic Fail.

Referring to one The Simpsons episode where Homer falls down a gorge. It's made into an Overly Extended Gag where he keeps bouncing against the rock walls over and over again.

I actually didn't expect him crashing into the forcefield, because I got confused by the placement of it. Doesn't the tunnel go through some kind of gap in it, like we saw when the bird crashed into it, and that's why they needed it blown up? Where was the Gorge in relation to the tunnel road?

I assumed everywhere but the tunnel was protected by the forcefield; there was only a gap there so that the victims would have a way in to the killing field.

Yeah, that's what I meant. What I meant was where was the gorge...I now get that it was already there, and the forcefield covered it. For some reason I thought the cave-in created it.

I have an appalling sense of geology....

UPDATE:

Our distributor Roadshow Films is lying B*tch. Why?

Because Cabin is now getting an unspecified DVD/Blu Ray release.

Yeah because no one in Australia or New Zealand care about the fact it's by Joss Whedon and has an Aussie and New Zealander in the main cast and is very easily sellable after The Avengers.

If you want to support it click here: http://www.facebook.com/savethecabin

Please it would be a great help.

I would be completely in support of a prequel spinoff series about Marty. Or even, if it was especially well done, a sequel about him fighting the Ancient Ones. I mean, if anyone's equipped to fight an Evil that opperates on Ancient Rules, it's someone who doesn't FOLLOW your RULES, MAN.
