Given her last name, I'm guessing Cure Sunny is also a Sailor Mars expy. Hino Akane.

Far from it. Doesn't have black hair, and isn't a miko

Probably not, she is not a Miko or anything, The only thing in common is they are both a little snarky. (their names are actually different 日 as opposed to 火) Sunny isn't even in red, she is orange.

Her commonalities with Cure Rouge though... lets see Hot-Blooded, Playing with Fire, Tomboy sports freak (instead of soccer she plays volleyball), uses said sport in her attacks, Snarky etc.

The only thing they dont have in common is Cure Rouge is a bit easy to scare (they tossed that onto Cure Peace) and Sunny has a bit of The Idiot from Osaka trope. (Miyuki and Nozomi are just as bad)

I wonder if they are calling in Fleeting Demographic Rule for this? (I am not saying this is a bad thing though) I hope it that everyone gets focus unlike Yes which in 2 seasons things were left by the wayside.

Anyway its theorized that we will get a Sixth Ranger and a Seventh being purple and red for a Rainbow Motif which fits the Fairy Tale Motifs too and foreshadowed in the compact.

Her power is themed red/orange though. Notice when the Smile Pact has her gem put in, the red light fires up, not the orange one. Meaning either an animation slip, or a hint that she isnt the "orange" theme precure, but simply a very orange tinged Red Precure.

well. that, and what is the sun but a GIANT FIREBALL.

I did notice from the wiki her name might be a double reference, though. despite the different meaning, her last name is hino. But she has the same first name as a previous Cure as well.

It's still RAW at the moment, but ep 3 is out

Cure Peace is.... well, more like a scaredy one, which goes without saying. I find the recent development of failed super powers disturbing, but I'll keep watching on. Next up, Kagiyama Hina! Oh wait, wrong media. Cure March

So Peace is a full on Dojikko? (she freaken falls in her ending credits!) She might be Precure's first full on Dojikko now that I think about it.

Not!Mikuru or Cure Mikuru... calling the nickname now.

My favorite Cure So far is Cure Sunny. She doesn't need to do any real girly shit other than put blush on her checks, she just sets her power puff on FIRE to make her suit come into existence.

That is awesome.

[up][up] Out of all the cures or just this series?

I do agree that so far she is the best cure out of the 5 so far, March seems pretty close too but we have seen very little of her.

I think Cure Black has her beat in the tomboy, Hotblooded and badass in the Transformation Sequence department and Cure Marine beats her in the Hot-Blooded department too.

(Cure Rouge's transformation sequence is damn close too [1])

sad I can barely find art of the other Cures because Peace is taking over everything; kind of wish the 'clumsy cute' character was left out for this season, including the 'sports playing hot head'.

Wow subbing groups are picking this up for once
Ah, I remember when Fresh Precure had its run, and little to no subgroup wanted to sub it evil grin not bashing, but FP was terrible. And Suite seemed to follow suit, but at least the characters were likable enough to carry the show.

Yes Pretty Cure 5 and Fresh Pretty Cure are still not fully subbed even now.... there is one group subbing them but slowly.

Fresh wasn't so bad.... Suite and Splash Star were worse.

Personal favs would be the original and Heartcatch though and this one is made by the same team as Heartcatch so I got high hopes (It still is a Lighter and Softer tone than Heartcatch but the comedy is solid.... I hope that changes though that little bit of darkness in Heartcatch is what made it so good.)

My view on Fresh is that it's boring terrible, not story terrible... that trophy goes to Suite. When it came to Heartcatch the designs were a bit goofy, but the energy and characters were great.imo

Smile is turning out to be eye catching with the fail power and energetic characters, but I think the Cures could have been reduced. Adding more just makes it seem that some characters have copy/paste personalities from a previous season.

I actually like Suite the second most out of the ones I've seen so far. Granted that's only the first or so of Heartcatch, the first half of Suite, and what we have of Smie but still. Suite isn't nearly as bad as I've seen it made out to be.

[up][up] Expies from previous seasons is pretty normal for Pretty Cure Futari Wa Pretty Cure and Pretty Cure Splash Star's cures are pretty freaken close to each other character wise so are the first two from Suite (Suite went a different route with the characters though which kinda sucked, Beat and Muse really stole the spotlight too.)

Yes and Smile's characters are pretty close Peace and March though seem to be pretty unique though.

Anyway minireviews of each series.... spoilers

  • Futari Wa Pretty Cure: Nagisa (Cure black) is an awesome tomboy type but not afraid to be a hopeless romantic (which the rest of the various series lack.) Honoka is a nerd but more than willing to kick ass as she finds being a Pretty Cure interesting and fun. The action really kicks ass as much as Heartcatch.
    • Max Heart adds Shiny Luminous the only support member, she does not fight well but she stops enemies in their tracks and such.
  • Precure Splash Star: Saki and Mai are rather boring compared to the old team, the only two interesting characters get put on a bus till the final episodes and never become offical cures (They don't even make the movies.). The cures gain Magic Deflector Shields and really cut down on the action.
  • Yes Pretty Cure 5: The fact that there are 5 cures characterization ends up really lacking even for 2 seasons even though I liked everyone. Nozomi really set the series standard for the leads being Love Freak s. The fights in their movies were really awesome, I did love the swords.
  • Fresh Precure: the slice of life elements and characters were really good the action was lacking.
  • Heartcatch Precure: Return to a lot of the elements of Futari Wa Pretty Cure, great characters, Awesome fights that invoke DBZ type feel again, Great side characters, Slice of Life elements were well done, the bad guys were awesome I mean having a Super Robot protag type as an enemy in a Magical Girl series.... Awesome. And the Monster of the Week were far more threatening and meaningful.
  • Suite Precure was really lacking across the board every element was subpar especially after Beat appeared and the series lost their interesting badguy and momentum. There were a few really good episodes here and there like the training trip.
  • Smile Precure my only real complaint so far is action is a bit lacking, pretty much only using their It Only Works Once finisher and that is it... I expect that to change though when everyone is introduced.

Fav Cures out of them all would be Cure Black and Cure Blossom.

How long does it take to sub these things anyways? Cause the subs came out pretty fast.

Anyways, the enemy switched this time... does that mean that we will be seeing the witch sometime soon? Usually they keep one villain out on the field until he gets defeated but it seems like they're switching up the formula.

Depends on the subgroup really.

And we will see different ones from episode to episode depending on the planned Aesop of the week then later more than one at once if they follow the Heartcatch Precure. Once they reach 22 on that clock the second part of the series will begin I bet. (wild mass guessWith the intro of a Dark Magical Girlwild mass guess)

Keeps it fresh and enemies interacting with each other makes them seem more alive and a Nakama like the good guys. (Much better than Suite's Quirky Miniboss Squad that was a joke from the word go.)

@Chariot
I find that while Suite had decent primary characters, and I like the designs. Though the story just never really impressed or improved (imo). And it seems common to find comments that pan Suite due to viewing three to five episodes.
Honestly, I wish it was better; or at least that I could enjoy it as you do.

@Raso
Nice list. And yeah, increasing the characters leads to a slow build up. But personally, I don't mind in-between episodes to break up the constant battling of Monster of the Week.

On a different note. If Precure heads into another season, I hope to see the return of dark clothing Cures. The pink lead showed up during Yes!5, but either Toei and its designers think its popular that they kept it or they really don't like girls dark clothing; or they are associating dark colors with bad/mysterious things.
And I am not counting the Dark Pretty Cure 5.

The Slice of Life elements have always been Precure's strong suit (another reason why Heartcatch Precure was so awesome.)

Cure Black is the only cure to wear a really dark color. (also the only one to never wear Hair Decs)
