For some time I've found the point about the ponies not knowing how the zebras saw Nightmare Moon to kind of strain credulity. None of the loyal zebra citizens of Equestria knew, was able to put two and two together, and thought it would be worth bringing up? Not even Zecora, a shaman and spy for Equestria? No other spies, diplomats, former travelers, exchange students, merchants, scholars . . .
As for Fluttershy's failure to anticipate the consequences, or that it would be weaponized, I kind of think that it might have been something she didn't, at least on the surface, believe would happen. But if that's the case, I have trouble seeing how it could be by any means other than carefully maintaining ignorance of the world around her. Two of her best friends were in charge of large bureaucracies whose major purpose was to develop weapons. At the very least, I'd expect that the researchers behind the megaspell framework had been sought after by MAS; more likely, they may have been on loan, working in association with Mo P, or some other arrangement. In any case, I figure that if nothing else they had picked up on the militarization of research from their social circles. Even at the very late stages, she must have had to work to find a way to get the information through the embargo that surely existed between the countries, and maybe thought about or been told why it was in place.
In any case, the most generous interpretation I can come up with is that she had her heart in the right place and her head in the sand. (And that was either a choice on her part, or enabled by everyone around her unanimously agreeing that she was too weak to handle the truth of the war. Which reflects poorly on both her and everyone else.) From my perspective, I see her actions as nothing but (again, at best) inexcusably ill-thought-out treason.
Well in order to keep this necro going on a hopefully pleasant track imma do a fan art dump.
The multiple personalities of Frosty Winds.
The picture from the above art in color.
I get the joke, but I think it'd fit better with Blackjack.
Rarity before death. Nice art.
"They call you the hellmare." Still nice art.
Pip and Homage. Same.
Pip and alicorn. This guy's art rivals Mistermech.
For some vids, Someone made a song that was referenced in the book.
That about sums up Littlepip's addiction.
That's a lot of guns for such a small pony. I forget how many weapons did Pip carry?
An Epic Rap Battle between Stern and Goldenblood. Really?
#IceBearForPresidentFour. Combat shotgun, sniper rifle, zebra rifle, and Little Macintosh.
On the rap battle, yeah, I think there would have been a better match in terms of the parts played in the stories if it had been Red Eye/Goldenblood and Stern/Sanguine rather than the swapped pairs. I liked the lyrics, but it kind of runs into a major problem when it comes to Goldenblood: a character with serious speech problems for most of his time in the story isn't a great fit for a rap battle. But within those constraints, not bad.
Oh, and I swear I'm not doing this on purpose (I only ran into this one tonight after someone else had me looking at Soge's blog for other things), but here's another PH-related review thing, covering Volume 1.

Woo! Frosty Winds art! That's always fun.
I think this is the only picture showing the whole main cast of the fic. Like I said in the comments there:
Wait, anypony besides Frosty even has designs? I just kind of pictured vague ponyish shaped blanks for them.
You're not the only one. The artist for that picture commented:
I know that the characters were described around when they were first introduced, and occasionally their designs are brought up in the story (like that scene where Rumcake thought that Sparkle and Violet looked similar just because they had the same mane color) but... yeah, they're mostly just ponyish shaped blanks.
The only reason that I know what they look like is because I have access to the character sheet. Otherwise I'd be just as clueless.
Was Littlepip ever described to be the way that she looks now?
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.Can someone give me the skinny on Memories? The more I hear of it the more interesting it sounds.
^ No. AFAIK the only details on her appearance from the story itself is that she's:
- Short
- Female
- Has a Pipbuck cutie mark.
- A Unicorn.
- Apparently has a mintly or sickly green magic aura.
- Collects a few scars, most notably that gash on the back of her neck, her fused pipleg, and lost most of her cutie mark on one of her sides.
Every else was popularized from John Joseco's art. Funny enough apparently Kkat had her own image of Pip but now imagines her as the rest of the fandom does.

#IceBearForPresidentThe story might have mentioned her having green eyes, but apart from that everything's the way Spirit said.
Fanfiction I hate.It was actually brought up as a joke in Project Horizons that nobody had a particularly good idea what the Lightbringer looked like.
“Velvet Remedy’s eyes don’t, and she’s who I wanted to do. I’d go with the Lightbringer, but no one’s one hundred percent sure what she looks like. Gray and brown. Green and brown? Who can say?”
Actually, not even Littlepip's magic color was brought up in the story. Only later was it confirmed to be PipBuck-green (the same color as her cutie mark). And her eye color has never been said.
Memories is the story of Frosty Winds, an Enclave scout who one day finds herself in the Wasteland with amnesia and multiple personality disorder. Ridiculousness ensues. The story is primarily a comedy (with dramatic parts scattered about), which—depressingly—makes it the only one of its kind among the FO:E side stories. The first few chapters aren't great, but things pick up as the story goes along.
It's one of my favorites (below the original and MN7, but probably edging out against Heroes), but I'm very biased because I'm the story's head editor. Seraphem might be able to go into more detail and give a more objective view of it.
Ah Memories.
It has a lot of good ideas, but also a lot of issues with the writing. Continuity errors, (both between itself and FOE, and within its own narrative) not even tried at being disguised plot convenience, story bits that go nowhere or just get forgotten for really long spans of story only to pop back up out of nowhere. And don't even bother trying to make sense out of the first chapter. Better off just getting a quick summery of the major plot points and that's it, cause that's all the story ever uses... that chapter is a mess.
And yet, despite that, the story is still kind of awesome. The writing does get better as the story goes on, it still has issues with some things, but the story it's telling is hilarious and yet emotional enough to carry past that.
As to the comedy bit, yeah there is a lot of itself it does not take seriously, yet does still have a core of serious story to it. What is going on... is rather serious, it's just that Frosty is almost completely incapable of being serious about it for more then a few minutes. And she finds a way to always meet the most... eccentric... ponies in the Wasteland. And for the most part, the story does a good job of balancing that.... for the most part... last half of act two kind of went to far to the "Just random comedic stuff that has no actual meaning for the plot" end, and the first part of the next act swung to far the other way. Being way to grim and dark, and lets wring as much emotional torque as we can from the characters, no matter what we have to do to them. Where the attempts at comedy just felt out of place. And the story does need to do a better job of trying to have a cohesive narrative, rather then a bunch of Big-Lipped Alligator Moment's strung together. But again seems to be improving on that as well.
Most of the characters are rather flat, not that well fleshed out beyond their eccentricities and role in the story. The main core of the narrative isn't a big enough part of the narrative, leading to it feeling rather aimless and meandering.
And yet, despite all that..... I still kind of love it. Not to the degree of the original or Hooves of fate, but it's still a story worth reading, and one I enjoy a lot. Because of one thing. Frosty herself. Frosty is just pure, epic, hilarious, Crazy Awesome. While still being a really well fleshed out and explored character. Snarky, headstrong, more apt to just roll over and go back to sleep then help somepony if they need help while she's napping. And full of flaws. And yet through it all... she never stops being lovable. Even now, when the 'lovable' part is kind of questionable, well spoilers but, you still care for her. At least I do. Plus the story under it all is rather awesome and one I am eager to see more of... just a bit annoying how little of the story is devoted to the actual driving part of the story.
So yeah, it's not perfect, the writing is full of mistakes, errors, it can give you serious Mood Whiplash, and yet, I' d still recommend checking it out, both for the insane hilarity, and the Crazy Awesome ball of insanity that is Frosty Winds.
And what do you know, Project Horizons updated.
#IceBearForPresidentI am expecting much drama.
My fave look for Littlepip is the one on the right hand side of this deviant art picture.
Oh yeah. Memories. I'm procrastinating on that for some reason.
Fanfiction I hate.Bump.
This piece gets to be the featured image on derpibooru. Don't know whether it's a one day deal for April Fool's or not.
Also new song from Overmare Studios.
Slow news day.
#IceBearForPresidentThe glasses look good en her, but she should really drop the Zebra rifle for something more humane/equinimous, it's like her Brand of Hypocrisy.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Fallout: Equestria trailer:
Pretty nice. I'm a little surprised Heroes didn't make it in at all.
This is how FOE should have been done. Not just piles of Grimderp heaped everywhere, but Black Comedy! Black Comedy everywhere!
Halper's Law: as the length of an online discussion of minority groups increases, the probability of "SJW" or variations being used = 1.That would have been redundant. The drama was the main attractor as far as I was concerned: a black comedy treatment would have been a turnoff.
Unless it was done in the poignant style of Life Is Beautiful

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Lol, you really can't compare Roberto Benigni's humor. it's one of it's own kind .
As for me, I also believe that a little more of humor, black or not, would've make the original better; too much drama risks to lead a story into too-much-angst territory, which is what the mane fic really felt like .
I don't believe in the concept of too much angst, but that's me. I'm weird. I love angst.
1. Again, the ponies did not know about the whole Nightmare Moon thing, and just HOW deeply their fear of Luna ran. They knew that the Zebra's had some kind of personal issue with her, and had some kind of nearly religious fear of The Stars and Nightmare Moon, but they did not know that the Zebra's thought Luna still was Nightmare Moon.
Which does make sense, since the Zebra's have such a taboo against talking about their beliefs in the first place. Next, even past that, letting the ponies know would for them, be equal to them tipping heir hoof and letting Luna know they were on to her. And beyond even that, to the ponies, it's so ridiculous, nopony would ever even consider it. They know Luna was cured, they know she was purified and is no longer evil. It's an idea nopony could take seriously.
2. Fluttershy didn't give them 'nukes'. Again at the time, she didn't even picture the idea of the possibility that megaspells could be used like that. If you want to keep the whole 'nuke' analogy going (Even though it is imprecise) Fluttershy developed nuclear reactors that could be used to power impenetrable shielding. Gave those to both sides to ensure that neither side could ever hurt the other. And was then horrified when both sides took that technology and used it to develop nuclear weapons.
Was it naive, yes. But also very in character, for both Fluttershy, and the setting. Fluttershy didn't care about sides, she didn't care about factions, she didn't even care about winning the war. She just wanted the fighting, the killing to end. It's why when she and her ponies arrived on a battlefield, they treated anyone that needed it, pony or zebra.
And as to her should have known it would be turned into a weapon... how? Equestria did not have the history of warfare we do. They didn't know all that we know, have made he mistakes we have, seen how things can go. You can't judge them based on what you know about war, only what they did, which was very little.
