My brother still plays, but I stopped playing when RS 2 was released, didn't like all the changes.
In the quiet of the night, the Neocount of Merentha mused: How long does evolution take, among the damned?bad grafics
That was a thing of the past. Play on the higher-graphics settings, they look much better on those. Besides, even the bad graphics look charming to me. But remember, graphics are only part of a game.
Always looking for a good MMORPG with a great community...Played the free version back in the say. It wasn't bad as a single-player fetch quest game, but the combat was extremely boring and there was no community to speak of.

I used to play, then I realized that it had its hooks sinked in me as I kept returning to mining coal after dumping it for half a year. Didn't touch it for like two-three years now.
The characters, quests and Fantasy Kitchen Sink world certainly are charming, and open-ended skilling is fairly unique among MMORPGs, but I really hate the grinding and tedium involved. I also tended to ignore other players entirely - which kind of defeats half the purpose of the game - and I have better things to spend money on than a premium subscription.
I consider The Elder Scrolls games to be an adult-oriented (not necessarily making them better in that regard) single player equivalent.

You should try hitting the forums then, Theres a bit of a community.
I'm baaaaaaackThey only opened the forums to free players, what, a year ago?
The total level barrier is rather clever by the way.
Yea. It's nice cause it lets you post as a non-mem. Makes clans easier.
I'm baaaaaaackI wasn't so much referring to the serious community. I know there's clans and stuff, but I was referring to how you rarely encounter friendly people in normal play. Even getting an answer to a simple question in a well-traveled area is difficult.
Contrast that with, for example, LOTRO, where there is often a lively discussion going on over the OOC channel, and it is fairly easy to round up a party for a quest, or even just to hit up the inns and blow some loot on revelry.

<><Oh, that. Yea The problem with runescape is your either a noob, a high level that feels superior, or one of the very few nice people. Or a troll/greifer. Very few mix.
I'm baaaaaaackHere's my character:
- Name: Dusk Shine (formerly Xenas)
- Combat Level: 91 (87 on a free world)
- Quest Points: 240

I like Runescape.
The setting is cool, the minigames are fun, and the quests are the best quests I've seen in any MMO.
It's a pity that the actual gameplay is so repetitive, though.
One of my few regrets about being born female is the inability to grow a handlebar mustache. -LandstanderI still play it too. I'm kind of glad my old main account (which was only about level 58 or so) got deactivated due to a problem with membership, because the username was "Zezima123550".
. . .
I WAS 11.
So now I have to use my other account which used to be in the hiscores for cooking and fishing but not anymore because they made them members only (which is bull, imo)
NO TREE FOR ME (ALSO LOVES HER BOYFRIEND)-flips table
Bullshit! Are you serious?

So. Let's all pause for a moment to smell what the Rock was, is, and forever will be... cooking.—Cave JohnsonNot sure if commenting on Wilderness being brought back (free trade was brought back too) or the hiscores being member's only.
NO TREE FOR ME (ALSO LOVES HER BOYFRIEND)Well, the Wilderness was always a fun romp.
Unless you got ganked by a group many levels higher than you.
So. Let's all pause for a moment to smell what the Rock was, is, and forever will be... cooking.—Cave JohnsonI never went into the Wilderness unless I had to.
NO TREE FOR ME (ALSO LOVES HER BOYFRIEND)Wait, the Wilderness was removed?
I used to like to bait people by playing a low-level character, asking a mid-level player to escort me across the Wildy, then switch to my high-level account and ambush them when they inevitably betrayed me.

<><It was removed in December 2010.
NO TREE FOR ME (ALSO LOVES HER BOYFRIEND)So, I decided to play Runescape again, 'cuz nostalgia.
...This game's graphics have really gotten better since I last played.
UN JOUR JE SERAI DE RETOUR PRÈS DE TOI...Maybe I'll buy a month's membership or two.
For old time's sake.
One of my few regrets about being born female is the inability to grow a handlebar mustache. -LandstanderThe Wilderness was removed on December 10th, 2007. That date is burnt into many a players mind. The poll to bring it back started in December 2010. It came back in February 2011.
I am level 109+8 and I still play occasionally and have membership.
The Rune Scape Forums used to be my primary forum, and I was on them more than the game itself, but I've moved off for the most part. The Rune Scape Forums are very...different. Advertising spam is replaced with 2012 *, @, lol, and Toilet Humor spam, none of which I have seen occur often on other forums I have visited. Recent Updates is rarely a good place to relax, and Off Topic and General are of incredibly variable quality depending on who is on. I was actually shocked to hear that the Rune Scape Forums are one of the biggest English Internet Forums on the planet, there are a lot of complains there about how nobody ever goes to them...
I'd recommend not going there but it isn't as bad as many people make it out to be, at least in my opinion.

There was a great star wars fan club thread I used to regular. I pop in once in a while.
I just logged in today. "you last logged in from XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX 217 days ago"
well, lets see whats...wow...different. I must say, I LOVE the tool belt. But i just touched the load stone north of falador and I got 100k...inflation must be rampant :P
Also, they completely back peddled on the "no adds in game" thing. The adds are everywhere.
also, the wheel thing is dumb. thats all i cant say, it's dumb.
I'm baaaaaaackShit man, I remember when I became way too goddamned obsessed with lobster fishing to sell them and buy guthix armour. Jesus I knew I had to cut back after that. I was level 75 and after a while free play got boring.
It seems we are in a BEARY GRIZZLY situation.
Anyone here play? I know it's generally considered not all that serious a game by players of other MMOs and that the graphics are a common joke punchline, but it was my first and I'm loyal to it. I like that the quests are more involved than the whole "Kill ye twenty wild boars and bringeth me their hooves" bit you typically see. I'm a relatively mid-level player (level 78) and I'm currently trying to grind Magic for the Family Crest quest, since all the cool Myth Arc-relevant quests seem to require you to have done that one.

The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."
