I'm interested in seeing what everyone else feels in regards to worldviews and the like, so I'll post links to political quizzes.

This is the first quiz, this is the Political Compass, this is a political chart, and this is a history of the political spectrum in its entirety. You can read about the latter two if you want details, but take the quizzes if you want clarification of your views and if you want to compare those to others.

Politics is far too complex for quizzes to be of any relevance in codifying one's views; this is for several reasons, not the least of which there is almost always innate bias in the questions caused by those who created the tests in the first place.

There is no black and white in politics, merely different shades and tints of grey, and the right wing/left wing spectrum or whatever else only have relevance as guidelines, and poor ones at that.

[up] The point of this thread is to take the quiz to see what you personally believe. That's all.

Why can't people decide what they believe without a quiz? surprised

I did both quizzes several times, and can't bother to do them again. That said, I'm a left libertarian, and my results are in sync.

Take the quiz if you want clarification about your views. If you already know without it, just state where you are on the spectrum.

I already did them - on the first test, I was about 6.5 libertarian and 3.5 left, as well as culturally liberal (about 5.5, I think) and non-interventionist (almost to the end of the scale - that said, I don't live in America and it benefits my nation for it to stay the fuck out of others' business, and the test was obviously meant for Americans, so I'm probably biased). On the other one, it's around -5, -5.

A lot of quizes are also useless because they always talk about general questions without context.

I consider myself a pragmatist.

I don't think these quizzes are perfect indicators on their own, since my personal views and my political views differ in many ways. The first quiz is more about myself as a citizen, while the second one can be answered as "myself as a leader". Obviously, the two are going to have different results.

As a citizen, I am a left-leaning libertarian (according to the first quiz), but as a policy-maker, I'd be more right-wing and authoritarian (according to the second). In both cases, though, I'd be culturally/socially liberal, since most (but not all) traditional values and institutions hold very little importance to me. Yes, my political views are complex.

We did, but this includes another test, plus a bit of background information. I think it'll give a better overall picture, but these quizzes aren't that great in working out all the subtle nuances that make up a lot of our political beliefs. They sure try, bless their little hearts, but it asks us "what", when the real question they should be asking is "why".

You are a center-left social libertarian.

Left: 2.05, Libertarian: 7.48

In any case, I am a heavy freedom-of-expression advocate, and anything relating to that gets high priority to me. Economically, I'm mostly neutral, overall a free-market advocate but protective of the consumer and cautious about some aspects of capitalism.

Now... what do libertarians and baseball enthusiasts have in common? A love for diamond-shaped diagrams

The second quiz raises a question; are people answering them as if they were responsible for carrying the policies out, or are they answering them as if they were simply themselves right now?

The last time I took the Political Compass quiz, I got a bit left-libertarian, but still close to center. [1]

About the links: I oppose relying on the spectrum and I'm interested in the idea of Mitchell chart. I voted on some issues last time weakly because even though I believe in a certain way, I don't like how its believers typically handle the issue - usually they're too caught up on enforcing regulations rather than helping or solving the problem.

Now using Trivialis handle.

The Mitchell Chart nailed things a lot better; based on that, I'd be a Progressive.

[up][up][up] See, the thing is, I find that the decisions I'd make as a political leader would sometimes be divorced from my own personal views as a citizen, due to issues of pragmatism. For example, as a leader, I would consider civil liberties to be secondary to national security, since a government's first responsibility should be the safety and security of the people it leads. As a citizen, however, I would far much rather have these civil liberties and risk partial security of the nation, since I rather enjoy having the privilege of freedom.
