Cross-posted from the US Politics thread. Congress sends an open letter to Iran saying they don't care what the current president signs, the next one can un-sign it. Hilarity Ensues as Iran's Foreign Office gives them a lesson in international and US law.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAny takers on this being a topic on Last Week Tonight With John Oliver this week?
"You can reply to this Message!"I'm pretty sure that statistically speaking, the chance of it happening is extremely close to a 1, (which means it's a certainty, for anyone out there who hasn't been made to suffer through a Statistics class) and I doubt you'll find anyone willing to bet against it.
| Wandering, but not lost. | If people bring so much courage to this world...◊ |Really? "It doesn't matter what the president signs, the next president can just un-sign it!"
I wish enough of my countrymen didn't believe that, that we would stop electing people who believe that. This is the political equivalent of Batman versus Superman.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.We should make elections happen a year in advance and make the winners attend classes on law and parliamentary procedure while they wait to take their seat.
And it should be taught by Shields and Brooks.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.I dunno: ask Iran if they've got any bored, junior aides who could use a little fun. <shrugs> Let them sharpen their irony on a few medium-soft targets before really playing with the big boys.

Apparently an outline agreement has been reached between Iran and the US, UK, France, China, Russia and Germany. It's "an outline agreement" and "A comprehensive nuclear accord [will] be drafted by 30 June".[1]
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranI hope this will be a good thing. Now we just need to wait a few years or so and see.
| Wandering, but not lost. | If people bring so much courage to this world...◊ |According to a US factsheet issued after the talks, the outline deal includes the following conditions:
Iran will reduce its installed centrifuges - used to enrich uranium - by two-thirds and reduce its stockpile of low-enriched uranium
The centrifuges that are no longer in use will be placed in storage, monitored by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
All of Iran's nuclear facilities will be subject to regular IAEA inspections
Iran will redesign its heavy-water reactor in Arak so that it cannot produce weapons-grade plutonium
US and EU sanctions related to Iran's nuclear programme will be lifted in phases, but can be brought back if Iran does not meet its obligations.
Seems like a pretty good deal,if Iran keeps the terms, or if Congress,Israel,or the Sunni states don't jump the gun and do something stupid.
I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom. The Saudi's have been willing to give the diplomatic solution a try so I don't see them doing anything (especially as conventional retaliation is likely to have them as the first target), the US congress and Israeli government though... No bet.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranLet's hope the Dems win all three houses (Sen, Con, and White).
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Well, peaceful resolution, decent guys in power in Iran, this should all work out good. 3 cheers for international agreements actually working!
You know I've never though of it that way before...
I'm baaaaaaackThe Senate isn't a house technically, it's a chamber I believe. Only the House of Representative and the White House are houses.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranI thought that after I posted it, but it's a novel way to think about it nonetheless.

I'm baaaaaaackIf they keep winning the White long enough, they'll also get SCOTUS by attrition.
FLAWLESS VICTORY
All that's left is to win States and gerrymander the fuck out of them, and entrenchment will be complete.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.My only concern with that plan is He Who Fights Monsters and Evil Is Not a Toy. Because if there's one thing we've learned it's that entrenchment doesn't do a party any favors. Free seats= morons in those seats.
I'm baaaaaaackVictory Disease. Kills you slowly, and you don't even see it coming.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.So how about Iran and that nuclear deal?
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranWe'll have to Wait & See.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Fuck SCOTUS. Win state legislatures and rewrite the constitution. Use immigrants to out-demographics the Republicans in the South. They'll accuse them of doing it anyway.
Then Let Me Be Evil, in other words.

Schild und Schwert der ParteiThing is, this isn't a battle of good and evil in a TV show, it's politics. The people would be far better served with the problems being fixed rather than abused for the cause we currently see as the right one.
I'm baaaaaaack(Posting Iran-related question here for now; if there's another thread better suited, direct me there and I'll thump this one)
Were the rumors of Khamenei's impending demise ever substantiated? Related to that, at this time has any indication been given as to who his successor may potentially be if he does pass away?
Iran will not develop nuclear weapons due to this agreement, but there are plans for a bipartisan bill that could force guidelines for a final agreement to be made.
