Cleaning up wicks: Faux Affably Evil

Recently, we changed Evilly Affable to Faux Affably Evil. I declined making a special efforts thread for fixing the wicks, since I thought I could do it all on my own. I was wrong.

Here are the remaining wicks. I'm still grinding through, but I'm hoping a full-on TRS will get this done quickly. The main problem is that while many of the wicks are probably Faux Affably Evil, they are written in a way that emphasizes Laughably Evil, and need to be moved to that.

Note that all wicks up to and including Hyrndhrafninn are false positives.

Clean-up threads belong in Special Efforts, not TRS.

I intentionally put in TRS in the hopes it would get more attention. Special Efforts threads tend to just rot.

But, the banner is still on the page, so I suppose that's enough.

Speaking of this, don't the first and second paragraphs of the description sort of contradict each other as far as what the meaning of this trope is?

Bumping to report that it seems more wicks are to Faux Affably Evil than Evilly Affable at this point.

...Hi, n00b here. waii How exactly can I know, give my opinion & vote if necessary whenever a trope's up for renaming?... Can't seem to find the explanations to that easily. Or maybe I just don't know how to look - always a possibility.

Change, my dear, and not a moment too soon.

Check your inbox (the green bar that appeared at the top of the page). I just sent you a pretty big explanation.

This task seems both exceedingly simple and tedious. How hard do you think it would be to make software handle this? It would need to be able to deal with different kinds of links, be it the kind that uses: [[]], {{}}, or just simple caps. Should we make add such a request to the Tech Wishlist (cause i have no idea how to write software)? It would have to be able to have the jurisdiction to edit locked pages or at the very least not bug out when it can't. It would also need to be able to handle a page currently being "checked out". Having people do this stuff by hand seems like a boring and avoidable waste of time. Also is there a way of knowing what pages have names that redirect to them and what those names are? Also it needs to not misidentify links, such as when you have caps but also have [=InsertStuffHere=]. The programmer would also have to be aware of other link related stuff that i am not familiar with (and thus can't bring up). there also may be problems if your search tool thinks what it finds is part of a word, however simply adding a space before and after in the search tool used means you aren't taking punctuation into consideration.

[up] You want to take to FELH 2 about this - he has a wiki editing script and may be able to accomodate you. The problem is that these clean-ups are usually not just cut-and-paste jobs, though - blindly replacing all wicks will not help us fight misuse.

There's no hard and fast staff ruling on this, and I don't have an issue with bots/scripts being used for mass edits, but if you do so, make sure you double-check a page for screw-ups after you edit it. We've had multiple cases recently where edits of this type have caused major problems on pages. If that happens too much, it wouldn't surprise me to see their use being disallowed and possibly become grounds for edit suspensions.

So someone already made the Bot? Is their something unsatisfactory about it?

FELH 2 works extremely well, but TRS stuff needs to be done by hand. This is because a bot can't know if a wick is misusing a trope; that requires someone reading the example and checking context and all. It could also lead to grammatically weird sentences, since although things like definite articles can be accounted for in a script, the way we use trope names in sentences would skew stuff if it was changed by an automatic function.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

Ok, this is done. I'll request lock and untagging, so that it doesn't mess up the Stale Shop Report.
