There's human trafficking?
...
I guess it's easy to get lost in a country that has most of its population in urban areas on coasts, and literally empty space in the middle.
On a serious note, are there any figures at all? Human trafficking is a serious thing, so it would be nice to get some numbers.
IHG, Human trafficking is a serious problem in the United Kingdom as well.
Edit; the biggest problem is that its usually women who are trapped and forced to offer sexual services in an moving the goalposts contract.
Basically, imagine that Lando is a woman and a hooker and Darth Vader is the pimp

Dutch LesbianWell, human trafficking is a serious problem everywhere.
I'm not disputing that.
I read a National Geographic article on modern day slavery once. It happens a bit in foreign countries, with some even going as far as inherited debt slavery. In the West, it's more based around abduction and secret (criminal) activities. I believe there was one example where a golf course next to a retirement home was actually a slave camp.
Here's a link to the first page or so of the article, if you're interested.
They never travel alone.
Adults and children in forced labor, bonded labor, and forced prostitution around the world: 12.3 million
Successful trafficking prosecutions in 2009: 4,166
Successful prosecutions related to forced labor: 335
Victims identified: 49,105
Ratio of convicted offenders to victims identified, as a percentage: 8.5
Ratio of victims identified to estimated victims, as a percentage: 0.4
Countries that have yet to convict a trafficker under laws in compliance with the Palermo Protocol: 62
Countries without laws, policies, or regulations to prevent victims’ deportation: 104

Programming and surgery have a lot of things in common: Don't start removing colons until you know what you're doing.Well it's a difficult problem to address. I think a lot of countries largely go after punishing the victims as well, which makes it impossible to get people to talk about the crime happening. Afterall, if getting the police involved means that the victims go to jail but the traffickers with their vast sums of money get away, what's the point?
That's the first thing I would change. No penalties for victims of trafficking.
I concur, Breadloaf.
No point jailing those who speak out against it. That'd make them less likely to speak out.
True, there was a case recently involving that — and well, slavery as well — and it isn't always immigrants being trafficed or enslaved, too.
Keep Rolling OnHuman trafficking is one crime I abhor with a fiery passion.
Sex slavers deserve nothing better than a .308 or .30-06 to the head. .50BMG if we wanna make a point.
It's one of those crimes I think is pretty much a moral event horizon.
I agree with you because it is one the top ten big Moral Event Horizons that could make a person a Complete Monster and I know many say no one can truly be one but if you are trafficking girls as young as five to pedophiles then pity the fools who are are going to their brains knocked out with a sturdy bat.

Agreeing with Mark. Slavery and human trafficking should be capital punishment automatically. Unacceptable.
As I understand it, most human trafficking in the US is from Mexico, but I believe the Russian Mob is big on doing it too. A messy business, indeed...
I am now known as Flyboy. The news recently had a segment about mail order brides. They honestly are just a step away from human trafficking.
I don't think I can describe how awful human trafficking is.

Seeing all these piss ant tropers trying to talk tough makes me laugh. If Matrix were here, he'd laugh too.If there is a case against all humans are inherently good then human trafficking can be an example. The most disturbing part the traffickers could pass as every day caring people and use their image to abuse their victims' trust.I espically hate those prostitution traffickers who kidnap young girls to make an easy buck for them.Paul was right the love of money is the root of all evil and I will say evil better not be lurking because it has seen its last days of freedom.

Incidentally the Slavers arc was my favorite Punisher plot arc, because Frank Castle took some sex slavers apart. And this reason is why I love seeing Liam Neeson kick the bad guys' asses in Taken.
Well, I, for one, find the entire thing disturbing. Part of why I'm for legalizing prostitution—much easier to find the real jackasses when it's a legitimate business with proper safety regulations and unions, etc.
These human traffickers? They all need a bullet to the head, end of story.

I am now known as Flyboy.http://nefariousdocumentary.com/
VERY Christian biased, but a great documentary that exposes what is actually going on.
Human Trafficking is horrible. It is much worse in places that are not the USA, but it is still really bad here.
Some highly disturbing facts, directly quoted from the documentary page:
A child is trafficked every 30 seconds. – UNICEF
The average age of entry into commercial sex slavery in the United States is 13 years old. – United States Department of Justice
Human Trafficking occurs in 161 out of 192 countries. – The United Nations
Pornography is a 96 billion dollar per year industry. – The Internet Filter Review
Up to 96% of women in prostitution want to escape but feel they can’t. – United Labor Organization
Human Trafficking is a 32 billion dollar per year industry. – The United Nations
In some countries it is estimated that 70% of men purchase sex. – Victor Malarek; The Johns
Over 27 million people are enslaved around the world. This is more than double the number of Africans enslaved during the Trans-Atlantic slave trade. – Kevin Bales; Free the Slaves

Go play Kentucky Route Zero. Now.I feel that the pornography fact is Jaywalking part of Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking there. Yes, sex slavery is bad. Yes, CP is bad. However I'm willing to bet that a lot of that porno that it's lumping together is legal.
I think that porngraphy was child porn which would make it as serious as the other two crimes.I hate to see the creeps who look at child porn because its just too dang creepy.
The church that made the documentary does believe that Porn is really, really bad.
I just copied what was on the page.
Go play Kentucky Route Zero. Now.In the fact he gave us, it just says pornography. It doesn't say child. And did I mention that I think CP IS BAD?!
Adult pornography doesn't much bother me, and I can quite easily get around the legality of prostitution in relation to it and I'm not even a law student.
Child pornography (which, if I recall correctly, is a good chunk of what human trafficking is used for) needs to go burn and die in a hole.
I am now known as Flyboy. If adult porn doesn't bother you, just ignore that part.
The rest of the facts are still extremely disturbing.
Go play Kentucky Route Zero. Now.Some of the numbers are quite surprising, actually, such as how much money is in human trafficking (and porn, for that matter, holy shit), and how it's totally outstripped the African slave trade of the olden days...
I am now known as Flyboy.USAF@Humanity at its lowest hour and man its making that much money!!!That means...I WILL THROW ALL THOSE WHO PARTAKE IN THIS PRATICE INTO THE DIRTIEST CELL TO ROT IN!!!
