Hrm.
Really, given the Faux Symbolism rampant in NGE you could make a case for 90% of the cast playing some variant of Fairy-oriented deck (with a few Obviously Evil characters playing Fiend decks instead), but let's get a bit more variety going.
Sachiel and Gaghiel use aquatic decks (Gaghiel more directly focusing on Fish/Sea Serpent type cards, while Sachiel just uses the WATER attribute in general), Sandalphon is Rock and/or Pyro-oriented, Iruel, Bardiel and Arael have troll decks oriented on dicking with the opponent's ability to do anything (Bardiel outright steals his opponent's cards, Arael directly target her opponent's hand and deck, and Iruel does a little of both), Zeruel would be the Seto Kaiba equivalent in terms of playing an unstoppable brute force deck, Ramiel uses Thunder-types, Sahaquiel uses Winged Beasts and other WIND cards, Leliel's deck is based on banishment and recovery therefrom....
Outside of the Angels, Kensuke would use Machine and military-related cards, Toji... seems like he'd be the Joey equivalent (initially starts out using Warriors/Beast-Warriors, and then later incorporates anything useful that he can get his hands on)...
...have you considered not using typecasted decks?
Admittedly I hadn't (other than for Shinji), but that's mostly because it's "traditional" for most characters to have a gimmick of some kind in how they build their deck (though admittedly this also has some basis in many characters themselves, especially in the old days, being based on a gimmick [lookin' at you, Rex Raptor and Weevil Underwood]).
You might think of it as a form/variant of Personality Powers, if it please you.
You could also say that typecasting a majority of decks would work in simplifying the author's effort to build said decks for the characters. Some people may choose to call that "lazy writing", but I'd prefer to call it "conservation of effort".

Have you watch most recent entry (ARC-V)? Many of the strong duelist there basically using decks that already proven in RL, and also utilizes card and strategies from wide ranges of archetypes to build strong, reliable deck, and there's one case of duelist that using seemingly a weak deck, but proven as meta-assassin in RL.
So the producer decides that he should be stuffed earlier to make sure the final boss doesn't go down too quick.
I fell off the anime during season 3 of GX, and I've just recently gotten into the process of rewatching the Duel Monsters anime.
Say, if the Evangelion characters were born as Equestrian ponies, what do you think their new names should be?

Rather than smart, I'd prefer to be wise. It would let me be silly more often.I refuse to even consider answering that question. May Bardiel rain upon the families of those who came up with that abomination.

...Dude. Take a motherly chill pill. Please.
'If you fall seven times, stand up eight.' The cry of the Undead.... I could've sworn it was someone else here who hates MLP.

It's EVA Unit 01, though you could add me due to me not seeing the hype and the fucking singing.

You gotta start somewhere.Well, the singing is a major part of why I like MLP. And I'm speaking as someone who doesn't particularly like musicals in general.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. To be fair, it's not the singing that's an issue for me - because 1) damn, but I do love me some Disney Animated Canon, and 2) it used to be a family tradition to watch The Sound of Music once the holiday season comes 'round, and I've still got some Nostalgia Filter for it - but rather a vitriolic backlash against how the fandom invades seemingly anything and everything that exists.
And also I find the setting - moreso the way the society interacts with its setting - to be deeply unsettling, for instinctual reasons that I struggle to explain.
Point is, I'm generally content to try and ignore the topic whenever it comes up, but since I've been called for to testify on this most glorious of days...
Now, then. To answer the original question, I think that the EVA characters' new names should be Shinji Ikari, Rei Ayanami, Asuka Sohryu (or Shikinami), Mari Makinami, Hikari Horaki, Toji Suzuhara, Gendo Ikari, Kensuke Aida, Ryoji Kaji, Misato Katsuragi, Makoto Hyuga, Ritsuko Akagi, and I'm pretty sure by now you all understand where I'm going with this, the joke being that the new names are completely identical to their original names.

As for me, I wanted to link to Jisho.org, the article with 慎二, which is made of "humble" + "two", thus making the name "Too humble". (I bet you can guess how it's pronounced on the first try) And so on, and so forth, for every character.
But the names made up in this manner sound too "Native American" instead of "candy horses", so I will instead suggest "Blueberry", "Emberry" and "Godson" (making Gendo "Godfather").
Also, Marq, if by some cruel twist of fate you end up writing this idea instead of all the others you've had, I will not read it.
Rather than smart, I'd prefer to be wise. It would let me be silly more often. Not Blueberry.
I got dibs on that for SCE.
Uh... As a reference in honor of your work?
Rather than smart, I'd prefer to be wise. It would let me be silly more often. What do you mean?
The "Blueberry" thing. Not that I expect it to be written, but how would you feel if it had a "We're totally ripping the name from that other cool guy's work, because we liked it that much".
Rather than smart, I'd prefer to be wise. It would let me be silly more often.I'd dox whoever did that for thinking my stuff is good.
One, you're stuff is good, no matter how many times you engage in self-deprecation about it.
Two, I vaguely remember coming across some fanfics that had Asuka use "Blueberry" as one of several derisive nicknames for Rei.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus....you haven't even read it.
I only ever saw Blue.
Well I have read your work, amita, and I say it's good.
And as the main guy in this thread other than you who ever actually writes anything, that means I can say it with Authority.
... Come to think of it, how many other posters here write anything Eva-related? Or at all? I at least have those handful of Negima snippets that I published a few years ago.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.
I think I might be able to look into them soon. (Damn summer training report. No, don't ask why I'm only turning it in now when summer is already over by a couple of months. Long story.)
