This is an awfully elaborate deception...they have a very real-looking website for it that has nothing but the trailer, but still...it also has contact info, including a phone number. I'm extremely tempted to call...sort of. Anyone else want to?

Does anyone know if this is getting any attention beyond Youtube and places like here? Has the mainstream media fallen for it yet?

I highly doubt this is real. Though if it is, they seem to be going for the No Such Thing as Bad Publicity route.

Oh, it's been confirmed not to be real.

Still pretty funny though. To be honest, I wouldn't mind a fairly realistic simulation of that sort of thing. It would be educational, if nothing else.

It's a shame really, a game based on the slave trade could be very interesting if they made it story heavy, following you, the son of a slave trader whose father dies, making you boss of a small slave trade outfit who over decades morphs it into the largest slave trade group in America. Navigating the moral implications of what you do and the harsh reality of life at the time.

I recall that you can buy slaves in Morrowind, but all you can do is kill them or free them. You also have the option to go the opposite end and join an abolitionist movement.

There's a handful of quests involving slaves in that game.

One noteworthy one is where you have to buy a female slave, and then deceive a native tribal chieftain into thinking she's a noblewoman. Then he marries the (former) slave.

Unfortunately, I don't remember exactly what the slave's view on the whole thing was...

I found it funny in how much detail was put into it. It would be an interesting game.

People are already taking this way too seriously, though, but hey we are on the internet, it happens.

So killing hundreds of people in a video game is okay, but enslaving hundreds is not?

@35

She just agree. A really submissive slave. But the tribe chieftain figures it out anyway.

Aw this is terrible. But funny in how "seriously" it's portrayed.

Unfortunately, I don't remember exactly what the slave's view on the whole thing was.

Actually, she was very enthusiastic, as her perspective as a wife of the chief is much better than what she had even before being a slave, and she and tribal chieftain ended up quite happy with each other and promised to name their child after you.

You can enslave whole cities and kill them at your whim in Overlord 2, though it's dealt with humerously. Many mafia-related games get you running protection rackets. But far worse than any of those (or this parody) are the Japanese torture, rape and sexual slavery games mentioned at the bottom of this page.

Personally, if I wanted to troll people, I'd find it way more effective to just dress up Virgin Roster as a new game set for an exciting release all consoles. This is, after all, a real game.

This sort of supercynical "parody" is increasingly common lately, I'm not sure if that should concern me or not.

Also, the only real thing that you could get out of a slavery game would be an ending where you decide to free your slaves, or a You Bastard! ending. There's not much merit in that, really. Aside from maybe classroom use, but you'd never get it past moral guardians.

go ahead and do every stupid thing you can imagine

[up][up] I reckon it could actually be a good educational title. What better way to learn about that period in history, why slavery was so popular, overpopulated slave ships, how they were taken, the kinds of markets and countries that sold and bought slaves, and (towards the end of the campaign) how it (mostly) came to an end? Do you risk going out of business by improving conditions and finding alternatives? Do you act like a model slaver and fight abolitionists to the bitter end? You'd feel pretty loathesome at the end of it but you'd be way more engaged in the subject than just reading Wikipedia.

The sequel, sadly, could be set in the present with Eastern European sex slavery rings.
