Failed To Pay Shipping Charges had me thinking of either "shipping and handling" or Shipping, not "Did Not Do The Research With ships!" It really needs a rename IMO.

Yeah, I thought it was a shipping trope too.

Though that's more the fault of said shipping tropes than this one.

Still, I agree.

That's...not a good name.

37 wicks, 128 inbounds.

Rhymes with "Protracted."

Definitely needs a better name.

Problem is that anything with ship or shipping in the title will make people think of the other definition. Naval Error?

I'm one of those very much in favor of eradicating shipping puns so that kind of conclusion doesn't come up. However, even if that wasn't an issue here, it's still a spectacularly obtuse name, and as mentioned sounds like it has to do with "shipping and handling". Rename this thing.

Very bad name. Unfortunately, we can't use something like Just Train Wrong or Just Plane Wrong.

This name is a hangover from the days when heavy-handed jeering at differences between fiction and reality was still kosher. As Artistic Licence puts it, oftentimes when details differ "It's about putting the story first."

This trope is on Artistic License – Indexes. Let's take the opportunity to rename it Artistic License - Ships.

As this is a naval version of Just Plane Wrong A Navel Error seems to have the right flavor.

Well, it would be amusing if the title got continually confused with belly buttons or oranges. But I agree that Failed To Pay Shipping Charges is an Epic Fail of a trope title that must be changed.

[up]Sorry, is that supposed to be a pun? I don't get it. U-Boat?

I'm think it's supposed to be "You Bet", but I parsed it as U-Boat as well. Terrible name either way.

I support A Naval Error, although I don't see why people like it so much. It just seems like the clearest name so far.

Those titles are all punny, not to mention snowclones. Clarity is nowhere to be found in them; you're just trading an opaque title for a slightly less opaque one.

Artistic License – Ships would be the clearest title I can think of.

I figured the "you bet" pun was blazingly obvious - but then, the internet has a way of reminding you that strange mind don't always think alike.

Yes, on second thought, Artistic License – Ships is best.

I really don't like the Artistic License X family because of the problems creating them made (things like Artistic License Forever), but that was really the fault of the bad snowclone family they were renamed from. So I guess I could get behind Artistic License – Ships.

Artistic Shipping License? I'm really not a fan of the Artistic License X naming pattern (I understand the reasons, just think many of them roll off the tongue better as Artistic X License)

There is now a single proposition rename crowner for this trope here.

I think it deserves a rename given that shipping charges seem to me to be associated with paying for shipping and handling more so than actual boats. I feel like the name thus may be discouraging use.

[up]a standard English idiom that generally has nothing to do with actual boats.
