Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! I'm editing this OP and pinning it to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

Ennis is much like Millar: he needs to be reined in or he goes wildly off-track. Crossed is his worst example.
He works well with the Punisher (except whenever a superhero is involved and Garth Ennis start seeing red again) and John Constantine, but other than that, it's best to let him do his own stuff (Preacher, Hitman, what have you).
Ennis's greatest flaws as a writer are (besides his tendency for shock value above all) tends to be the fact he has a real hard time writing villains that aren't just one-dimensional depraved psychopaths and his running tendency to associate homosexuality with mental illness (though he did get better in this regard).
"All you Fascists bound to lose."@Adric- Me too.
@Comicwriter- That's a really good point and why Millar's take seems like a real disservice to the character. What I was speculating about though is a take on Cap, which (extrapolating from some of Sousa's characteristics) would have him as sometimes falling into that "accidentally condescending/offensive liberal" stereotype. So basically imagining a Deliberate Values Dissonance take on Cap, bu one that is actually in line with the character's personality and backstory.

@Agent Carter season 3: Yeah, I wish it had continued too. Season 2 wasn't that great but there were some interesting things they could have done with it. I, personally, would have liked a followup to their Secret Empire buildup and an adaptation of the Imposter Cap story. There's also the possibility for us to see Hydra begin their infiltration of Shield and an early run in with the Winter Soldier.
Like, I just want one more season or a TV movie or something to tie up the loose ends.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I'd be fine with a Netflix movie that at least wrapped up the Secret Empire story they were teasing. Too bad there are rights issues.
I recall some discussion of the details with Peggy's brother likely being a set-up to have a version of some Nick Fury storylines play out with Peggy in the place of Nick and Michael Carter as Scorpio. But I also really wanted an Impostor!Cap story. In my head I imagine it ending with Peggy having to Shoot the Dog and killing a a dangerous, bigoted, mentally unstable but well-meaning guy who thinks he's Steve Rogers (and maybe even got plastic surgery to look like him).
Actually, since Cap isn't in a great place right now in the MCU due to Civil War, I kind of want one of the "Evil Caps" to show up and/or Citizen V as a way of underscoring Steve's virtues as compared to his substitutes. So basically have the MCU version of Azrael and/or those various Supermen after Superman temporarily died.
Edit- Also, although I wouldn't want the MCU to touch the current "Captain Hydra" stuff of the comics with a 10-foot pole, if they had to adapt it, I vaguely had the idea of Peggy somehow ending up in an elseworld/Lotus-Eater Machine where Steve was a bad guy. Basically I had the same idea as Agents of Shield's current Framework storyline.

The 50's Cap plotline was on my list of most wanted things for them to cover for Agent Carter. Shame that they didn't go with that.
Can somebody explain the rights issues to me?
I was thinking of them doing a TV movie for ABC or something, to be honest. Don't know how that would work but I feel like it'd be easier and quicker to do than another season. They had some plot going on about Carter's brother, just do that, have them mourn Thompson's death, then do a mystery investigation thing and set up SHIELD.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I'm surprised they haven't wrapped it up in a comic or anything. Then again, could be a rights thing.
I'm also confused why there's a rights issue with this show.
There isn't. Netflix just doesn't want another Marvel show at the moment.

Wasn't that the reason given for why they aren't streaming it at all?
Let me clarify: it doesn't have to do with character rights. It has to do with distribution rights. When it first starting airing, ABC made a deal with Amazon to have exclusive rights to air Agent Carter in the US on Amazon Instant Video. So even though all prior seasons of Agents of SHIELD are on Netflix, Agent Carter isn't and won't be until the deal expires. However, ABC was able to stream the entire show on their own service for a while, although it's not there anymore.
This is only for the United States, however. Outside the United States, Agent Carter is streaming on Netflix.

And Canada, if that's relevant to anyone else in this thread. note
It's not just the US...international the rights are also tied up. I get neither Agent Cater nor Ao S over Netflix.
It's available to view in various countries. It depends on if those countries have a pre-existing deal in place already for the show; if not, Netflix probably grabbed it up to stream it.
Then why did you bring up the point of her saying she wouldn't call her self a villain?

If I can offer an opinion? Most villains don't think of themselves as such. Alexander Pierce didn't think he was a villain, just doing what had to be done for the greater good of humanity. Von Strucker probably didn't think he was a villain. Hell, the Red Skull himself didn't think he was a villain. So why would Natasha Romanov, who was raised from childhood to believe in the cause of her masters (whoever they were), who had literally known nothing her whole life except spying and killing in their name, see herself as a villain for doing so? My logic tells me she wouldn't.
I think what's happening here is just confusion: yes, she wouldn't think of herself as a villain. Almost nobody thinks of themselves as the villain. Still, though, she was the villain of the story, because she was an unrepentant killer who manipulated Stark and the Avengers for her own gain. You can say that she did it for her own reasons, but she is still the villain of the story.
And now, because I can, I totally want a video of Natasha singing this song:
because the initial response was insinuating Black Widow being a villain somehow runs contrary to doing a realistic take on the Marvel heroes. It doesn't.
The point behind it was that true Heel–Face Turn cases are far more common in comic books than in real life, so the idea that someone raised to be a violent, morally dubious killing machine would not magically stop being that just because the good guys made her a superhero is entirely consistent with that premise. She's got some red in her ledger and she doesn't give a shit.

They're doing motion capture work for Proxima Midnight on the Infinity War set.
kind of random but Slingshot won a Webby award.
Remember this time last year, when everybody was hyped af for Civil War? That was fun. Anybody want to list their favorite theories that turned out to be wrong?
(Nitpick hat on) Cap doesn't browbeat another character in that scene. He does criticize calling the French cowards, but is otherwise reminiscing about the French Resistance with Sharon while they're in Paris. (Nitpick hat off.)
