Er I Mean found in: 9 articles, excluding discussions.
This title has brought 25 people to the wiki from non-search engine links since 20th FEB '09.
Launched without YKTTW, has been around since at least 10th August last year (earliest edit, but I know the history was purged around then)

My name is Addy. Please call me that instead of my username.... What.
Always hiding my keys in the bug bucket, you bastard dog.Misread the thread title as a suggestion to rename the trope, but the statistics certainly indicate the trope has problems. They're relevant.
My name is Addy. Please call me that instead of my username.I suggest that we mention that not just villains are affected by this trope, as shown in the image. (Although she is technically a Hero Antagonist).
Always hiding my keys in the bug bucket, you bastard dog. Also, its line-of-dialogue title is a strike against the name. Needs A Redirect and/or rename.
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.Definitely a rename. This sounds like a Verbal Tic.
I despise hypocrisy, unless of course it is my own.Hm, it looks like it hasn't been crosswiked at all. I think the title is a little specific and obtuse for the trope. Not sure how to redo it. Considering it's a dialogue trope, I'm (personally) more willing to accept a dialogue like title.
Fight smart, not fair.Yet another example of a dialog-like title finding no use. Comedic Backtrack states what the trope is, rather than one way the trope is accomplished.

Goal: Clear, Concise and Witty"Comedic" makes the trope sound like it only occurs in comedies or in places where it is Played for Laughs.
BTW, this sounds ridiculously similar to a YKTTW I saw where the Big Bad, (The Dragon, etc.) makes a verbal slip that foreshadows/reveals their ulterior motive to the audience, but immediately backsteps to avoid nearby in-universe characters from catching on.
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.It's Backtracking. The name is taken by a video game trope, right now. It could be moved to something more appropriate, as this is the wider, multi-media trope.

Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyVerbal backtracking, as opposed to physical backtracking.
I didn't write any of that.We could actually make Backtracking a disambig and have the tropes be Physical Backtracking and Verbal Backtracking.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickBackpeddling is a great name.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickAgreed with Backpeddling
My name is Addy. Please call me that instead of my username.Seems to be a related (super, sub, sister, I can't tell) to Verbal Backspace. I dunno if that impact's anyone's decision any.
Also, shouldn't it be spelled Backpedaling?

I wouldn't be posting at this forum if I didn't think it a necessary step.Backpedaling apparently.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickBackpeddling is a science fiction trope related to Organ Theft.
(Ok, ok, I'll shut up now.)
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.Like Backpedaling. Or Verbal Backpedaling. Preference for the latter for ease of Wiki Wording.
Fight smart, not fair.Typing the word 'verbal' is not easier than typing {{}}.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyI like Verbal Backpedaling. Backpedaling sounds like a bicycle riding trope to me.
Always hiding my keys in the bug bucket, you bastard dog.Eh. It's easier for me because I don't have to pick up my hand. It also leaves plain Backpeddling open for turning into a disambiguation/index depending. No wait, that was Backtracking, never mind.
Fight smart, not fair.I think we should open up a rename poll for this trope like we did with True Companions. On that note, we should work on the description too.
Always hiding my keys in the bug bucket, you bastard dog.'Tis only a mere bump.
Always hiding my keys in the bug bucket, you bastard dog.
The description doesn't cover the entirety of the trope.
