They're on sale at least 2-3 times per year. Though, yes, they're now on sale again.

Considering I lost said 2011 purchased Vita...

...but it wasn't for the shared play thing that I bought my Vita for anyway. I bought it for Persona 4 Golden. (And getting Little Big Planet Vita ahead of time) I don't consider myself eligble.

speaking of Oreshika, does it have it's own page yet?

if not, someone (i might do it) should get around to doing that.

So, got talking about this in the Persona thread, since there's a bunch of Persona games (admittedly, rereleases and spinoffs, but still) for the PSP and Vita. There's a handful of games for the PSP and Vita that I'm interested in but never got to play (as I've never owned any if Sony's handhelds), so I started looking into it a bit.

Anyone have any opinions on the Playstation TV? If I'm going to get a Vita, that's the version I'd go with. It's like $100 cheaper than the original version, and I wouldn't miss the ability to play on the road. I did have a few questions, though. How easy is it to sync controllers? I have a PS 3, and thus a Dualshock 3 controller, but if it's a pain in the ass to sync it back and forth every time I want to switch systems, it might be worth getting a second controller and leaving them both synced to their respective systems. And on that subject, would it be worth getting a Dualshock 4 controller? From what I understand, the touchpad does work as a replacement for the Vita's touchscreen, but I don't know a) how well it works, or b) whether that's actually an important feature, or mostly just a gimmick anyway. (ie, would it be like losing the touchscreen on a 3DS, which is a major loss on a lot of games, or would it be like losing the 3D on the 3DS, which is a minor loss at best?)

As a general Vita question, how much storage does it have? My understanding is that the Vita is backwards compatible with PSP games, but they're download-only on the Vita. That doesn't bother me, as the games I'd be looking at are pretty mainstream (Persona, Final Fantasy, and Ace Combat, mostly) so I'd be surprised if they're not available as downloadable titles, but I'm curious to know roughly how many games you can have downloaded at once before you have to start deleting stuff to make room and re-downloading it later if you want to play again.

Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.

The Vita TV works ok if you don't have to play an incompatible game. Unfortunately, that does take Tearaway and Gravity Rush off the table and they're both amazing games. I don't own a PS 3 so I have no idea how synching would work with two systems around.

I've heard the TV and the newer Vita model have 1GB of internal storage. For some reason, the system won't use internal storage at all if you have a memory card in. Memory cards range from 4 to 64GB (you'd have to import if you want a 64). Those cards are fairly pricy since Sony has always had a thing for ridiculously priced proprietary storage. Vita games can be up to 4GB in size, so an 8GB card is probably the smallest useful size since one or two games have very large patches and things that push them to 5 or 6 gigabytes. PSP games can be slightly over 1 GB.

I don't think Ace Combat X is available digitally, but Joint Assault is. The whole Final Fantasy series is available up to X-2, and so is Persona (bear in mind, Persona 2 is a two-part game with part 1 on PSP and part 2 as a PS 1 Classic).

So it looks like the Vita TV is gonna be a bundled product, with the newest PS 4 model. I'd like to believe this is a very good thing.

I really want to grab Gravity Rush, but Vita games have now degraded in value so much that some game stores don't even have a stand for them.

And I really dislike how I now have 3 different memory cards for the Vita. Pretty difficult to figure out which one has the save data I need for whatever game I decide to pick up.

If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.

So a friend of mine just gave me a used Vita as a gift. Unfortunately it didn't come with a memory card. What size would you recommend? They're a lot pricier than I would like so I'm probably going to stick with the 4 but I'm worried that won't be enough.

8 would be the best size I think, some games are just huge like 3 gigs. Borderlands 2 runs 5 gigs but really not worth playing over the console version.

What if I only bought cartridges instead of downloads?

I would still recommend 8 as there are still digital only games out there. But if ya gotta go with 4 then you would only have some data management problems, that can be worked around with storage on a computer although it takes time.

There are digital games that don't fit on a 4. Also, the vast majority of the library is digital-only or short-printed. I went for a 32 and a 64 and don't regret it.

There aren't that many games I want though. I probably never would have gotten one if it hadn't been a gift. I only have five games for my PSP and I doubt I'll have more than that for this one.

The key part to note is that 4 is not an acceptable size. IIRC, Atelier Ayesha Plus can even go over 8 if you buy the cheap music DLC pack.

Unless you're 100% certain that you're never purchasing any digital games for this thing ever, get an 8 or a 16. Even if you go all-cartridges (again, depending on the games you want, good luck), you need a place to store save files and patches. Also, despite previous purchasing habits (unless financial reasons are the cause). I would not be surprised if you ended up buying a lot of games on sale now that you're past the initial hurdle of actually getting the system (something backed by statistics - average Vita owner a few years ago owned >10 games).

I wound up buying an 8. I'd be more willing to buy a larger size if they weren't so damn expensive. A 16 costs the same as a generic 64 gig SD card. Come on Sony, that's just ridiculous price gouging.

I agree, the memory card prices are absurd. I only got a 32 in the beginning because I got one used for half-price. (Well, that and the 64 didn't exist yet.)

Finally pulled the trigger and bought a Vita. A preowned OLED model and a preowned 16GB memory card because no fucking way was I paying full price for one of those things. The memory cards were always a tipping point for me and being able to get one for almost half price made it really easy to push me over the edge. Both the handheld and card cost me less than a new one by itself would have.

I bought Persona 4: Golden as my first game as it ought to keep me busy for a while while I recover from the purchase and decide what other games I want to get.

I would recommend Tales Of Hearts R most of all followed by Atelier Arland trilogy,, Muramasa Rebirth, Disgaea 3 & 4, FFX, and Dragons Crown.

[up] Seconding Muramasa. Tales of Hearts R is decent, but it's really only for people who like JRPGs. And the translation is terribly liberal.

I'm not sure how alive the online for Dragon's Crown is now. It's fun for the most part, but when you get to the endgame/postgame you pretty much have to play multiplayer so...

I can also recommend the Neptunia series of games. If you're new to the series, Re;birth 1 might be a good game to get your feet wet with. It's also set in a separate continuity from the rest of the games, so it's also a good place to stop if you don't really like it.

The translation was liberal but still quite awesome, which is the same for almost all Tales games. The combat is insanely fun too, on par with Graces F but with an air game.

It's easily the second best game on the vita behind P4.

Seconding Muramasa and Dragon's Crown. Odin Sphere Leifthrasir will be coming out on Vita soon-ish, so there's that to look forward to if you like Vanillaware's work.

Gravity Rush and Tearaway are a bit gimmick-y, but show off the Vita's features pretty well.

Toukiden Kiwami is a good hunting game with a strong Japanese flavour. If you like the idea of fighting giant monsters with a huge sword (or a spear or a gun or whatever), there's a demo.
