Then use "rodent" instead of "rat". Solves the problem.
"Rat" works in this case because A)most examples seem to involve them B)using the term for mice as well isn't exactly novel and C)you're never going to see this trope applied to beavers or squirells.

I copied Squeaking Carpet's description to Swarm of Rats, fixed the wicks and the two redirects, and sent a report for a moderator to move the discussion on Squeaking Carpet. I will add a note to the Renamed Tropes page once that is done and then I can finalize the rename by making Squeaking Carpet a redirect for Swarm of Rats.
I realize that both Swarm of Rats and Wave Of Rats have the same ratio of votes, but since Swarm of Rats had more yes votes, I chose that title. If that was a mistake, I can reverse the rename, but I think it should be okay.

In any event, the rename has been finalized now that Squeaking Carpet is a redirect of Swarm of Rats and that there is a note on the Renamed Tropes page about the change.
