Add a new choice. You don't cancel anything.

There have been plenty of times when a crowner option that was added weeks after a crowner started ends up taking the lead. If everyone agrees that the new option is the best choice, that's generally what will happen.

The best choice of what's currently available in the crowner, not best for the trope.

EDIT:[down][down] You guys are just repeating what I've said in post50.

I'm not upset that some name I haven't come up with wasn't in the crowner back when it started. I'm asking why start it this early? We barely came up with half a name that we're not sure (if you read the thread you'll see alot of us aren't 100% on) was usable because it could cause confusion with other tropes and you've already thrown it on a crowner with rejects from the last few threads, Of course we'll vote up the best option, Which happens to be it right now.

My point is what happens if we don't come up with something better (like you weren't able to in the last two threads)soon enough and the current half a name is stable long enough to legally win? do we rename the trope that?

Well, if you're saying that we can't vote on names that haven't been proposed yet, I agree.

The solution to that is to propose them.

<Mod Hat ON>

If there's an option you want that isn't on the crowner, add it. We don't cancel crowners and start them all over because someone came up with a new option. And as has been pointed out, options added long after the crowner was made can and have taken the lead if they were good options.

If you don't add the option you want, don't complain that something else was chosen.

The important thing is that we pick a name that's somehow better than the current one. While Sackett had a point that a bunch of bad names is worse than one, Takashi Couple's was also a lot easier to spell. Once we solve that issue, we can take our time crafting the perfect name for the trope.

As for halting the crowner, I believe the procedure is simply not to carry through with the rename if the winner was just the least worst of all the proposed names and not actually an improvement.

Since it's been a week and the crowner was nearly 6:1, I went ahead and moved the page. I did my best to clear out incorrect examples(ie, I unlinked just about everywhere "childhood friend" was potholed there), but the remainder definitely need looking at(the Infinite Stratos one looks suspicious, for example). Not sure whether to call for a lock or not, given the circumstance.

EDIT: Also, Characters.TheWorldGodOnlyKnows and K On are both showing up as linking to the page, but I can't find any instances left.

Well that sucks, I was going to add Childhood Friend With A Crush once I finally got home on Thursday, didn't know the timer on these were this short, thought you guys said things could be added weeks after, but only 5 days? This played out exactly how I thought it would.

As for what you said in post 56, since the old name was in Japanese any proposed English name would automatically be better.

Also, I can vouch for the Infinite Stratos examples, it's unique for having two girls fighting over the position. Same goes for The World God Only Knows, no such thing in K-On! though.

Can Childhood Friend With A Crush still be added as a redirect?

The crowner was up for seven days by my count. As for The World God Only Knows, I personally fixed that example to use the new name, so it shouldn't show up. The Infinite Stratos example on the trope page reads like Childhood Friends might be a better trope.

True, it was seven days, the discussion about how bad the current name was didn't start until the night of the 14th.

Isn't that what this trope's about? from the Oblivious to Love main characters POV they're just Childhood Friends from the girls perspective he's already potential boyfriend material, but she doesn't make a move until he's in his teens or another girl shows up.

No, the big difference is that the Patient Childhood Love Interest is making a move in the long run - they're already more than just friends, but she hasn't revealed her true feelings for him(hence the bit about being patient).

If by "making a move in the long run" you mean she's already his best friend or closest female friend with room visiting and lunch making privileges then fine, the "already more than just friends" part is just from her or the families perspective, the boy is almost always Oblivious to Love and only sees her as a Childhood Friend.

The reason she hasn't revealed her true feelings varies, usually shyness or she didn't have a need to rush since she's already his closest female friend or there are no other girls around meaning no competition, this all changes when more girls show up and she goes on the offensive, since the boy only saw her as a friend and nothing more there's a 50% chance of her becoming the Unlucky Childhood Friend.

This trope is basically a female version of Dogged Nice Guy Type2 who later goes on the offensive, just without the negative connotations.

Not really the girl doesnt even have to go on the O. They could both come to the realization And One Thing Leads To Another, or he goes with someone else and she has attachment issues with giving him up. The biggest thing is that the pair are really really close. (remember in japan friends are different if you get that close it's a pretty big deal and a pretty big deal to others.)

Really this is the worst name for a trope I have ever seen... Do people actually read the damn trope before voting? We are going to get more misuse out of this one. Now that I think about it Really Close Childhood Friends could of worked but who locked the crowner?

The Infinte Stratos ones are correct both girls and guy were like that till they were forced apart and the whole thing was invoked by the school (probably done by his real sister who is their teacher.) when they made Ichika room with Houki in the first episode thinking it's ok because of this trope however she turned Tsundere leading to a few fights though but they are still really damn close. (Victorious Childhood Friend too.) and the other girl just jumps back in the game when she joins the cast in like episode 3.

This is the worst name you've ever seen? After it was called Osabananamin and had a good 50% misuse? And including Nakama and what Word Salad Title used to be as well as the former Asbestos-Free Cereal? Need I go on?

This title is not the trope it's not even half the trope... the others you could say were the trope. (if a bit too broad for the trope itself)

Can someone unlock the crowner? I want to add Really Close Childhood Friend to it.

I'm resigned to the fact that there is never going to be a "good" name for this trope, just varying levels of bad.

^^ Give this title a chance to see if it works. It could hardly be worse than Osabananamin. In fact, what you're asking right now is exactly the same thing I was asking when the name was originally chosen, and I was told to wait and see as well.

^ Yeah, I don't think it's great either. Less bad, but not great. At the very least, though, we should be able to avoid the problem of it not addressing love interest characters*

and the title may make people more likely to read the trope instead of thinking they already know what it means.

I see even more misuse as this could easily be understood as as someone who is just tolerant of a childhood friend love interests's antics IE they dont mind the covert pervert moments and such as its "just a phase" type thing. (which does exist its just not this trope.)
