I don't know. I just love it when Futurama does those jokes.
They live next to New York, which is a major source of US culture.
Other than Elizabeth, Trenton, and Camden, though, New Jersey is kind of nice. It's one of the better states I've been to, and I've been to most of them.
But it's seen as the source of some of the more boorish parts of Greater NYC culture, the worst aspects of the Bridge and Tunnel crowd. It's also a polluted, corrupt, gigantic super-suburb, it's the only state in the Union with its own Devil (unless you count Massachusestopheles), and it's the epicenter of the Guido Horde, which has already conquered Staten Island.
The parts I've seen are really ugly, and I hate their toll road system. I suppose it could do worse though.
Right, forgot about the tolls...
FUCK NEW JERSEY
Why people hate New Jersey:
- 1. Overexposure
- 2. Pollution
- 3. Obnoxious people from New York and Philadelphia
- 4. Violence
- 5. Jersey Shore (even though only one of them is from New Jersey)
I know someone who lives in Brooklyn who can tell you more.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/Joisey's OK. Nothing to write home about.
Well, there is this hideous thing.
The place is a dump.
I live in Jersey. It's not that bad.
There's also the fact that it's illegal to pump your own gas in New Jersey.
Why?
If you don't like a single Frank Ocean song, you have no soul.It gives people jobs or something.
I actually live in a fairly nice part of New Jersey. So it boggles me why people make fun of Newark and not, say, Trenton.
Cleveland wasn't notable enough.

Actually, Oregon has the same law.
Strange how nobody mentions that.
Mainly because the crime against nature that is Jersey Shore.
Yeah, I'd mainly say it comes from New Yorkers and to a lesser degree Philadelphians having pretty close contact with some of the worst parts of NJ. They exert a lot of cultural force, especially the New Yorkers, hence the negative stereotypes. Beyond that, the state is fairly normal and nice from what I can tell, and also is conveniently small and not too far away from New England. It does have a lot of rather strange and creepy aspects though...for such a relatively small state, a lot seems to get lost and forgotten in Jersey.
Flora Segunda | World Made By Hand | Monster Blood Tattoo ^You should read these series. That's because it's bigger on the inside. bwa-hah-hah.
I hate New England, so naturally I hate Jersey.
But Jersey isn't in New England...

True, but it is part of New Channel Islands Administered By England.
Just as long as there's no hate for Guernsey. Nobody is allowed to hate Guernsey on pain of bovinacidification.
I hate the Isle of Man. It's a sexist island.
Why all da hate?
Specifically, this is a question about where the New Jersey being a hell-hole stereotype came from.
The term "Great Man" is disturbingly interchangeable with "mass murderer" in history books.
