Exactly. That's what a spirit bomb is in DBZ. It's a giant energy ball.

...But you do have somewhat of a point. The very description of the trope is just vague enough to demonstrate it through any number of the other half-dozen or so tropes listed in it's description. It could be a combined team attack with the leader firing it off.

The problem with the picture is that it doesn't demonstrate the trope very well. It shows some dude who looks like a criminal, if you're not familiar with the source material, holding a giant blue beach ball and looking pissed. This picture doesn't work if you don't, in fact, know what's happening. I have no idea what that is.

The trope is about combining a bunch of people's powers to create one giant attack. The suggested pics don't show that at all.

So basically the trope namer is too vague to even be pictured on the trope page it is named after.

That's not rare at all.

The trope namer is the trope namer because it was a good example of the trope. A good example of the trope doesn't always make a good image.

While I like those pics, I believe this trope is "somebody collects energy from an entire population into the form of a ball, then throws it" (yes, it's on the TRS for that exact reason), so I don't think the Care Bears are an example.

Why not have a montage of everybody giving Goku their energy to use for a Spirit Bomb?

How about this?◊ Its from Inukami. As clearly visible in the pic, a number of people are sending energy to one person, who is then firing it at something.

7 and 8 of Pretty Cure look alright, but I think my suggestion is more direct.
