Would a six and four-year old Pony (or whatever the developmental equivalent is if they age differently from humans) living in a mixed society of humans and Ponies be old enough to realise the two are different?

I think they would definitely be able to notice that there are differences, at least physically, but not old enough to feel like the distinction matters, unless they had been taught otherwise.

I am feeling cantankerous today. One of the first things I saw after waking up was a comment on TCYB, which still gets a bit of attention now and again. The comment? That there were a lot of issues and—and this next bit is a direct quote from the comment:

"If your story didn't have the upvotes that it did, I wouldn't have kept reading past the halfway point of this chapter. Please fix."

Which, okay, fair enough. I wrote the damned story 4 years ago, it's a bit rocky on the technical time, but still, rude. I'm half tempted to reply saying, "No."

Weird to expect a revision to something that old.

Or "too late".

In other news, I kinda ran into a block with that Spike story. Specifically, I'm up to RD's dream. The basic concept is that it's a space where it appears that the world has basically been ripped apart and is reduced to floating bits and pieces. Rainbow Dash is flying frantically between them, trying to escape some sort of enemy. Thing is, I feel like overall the dream needs some sort of additional weird element to it so it feels a bit more surreal. I also have to come up with a good way for Spike to help RD escape the dream (having him just block what's chasing her is too easy).

Unfortunately I'm kind of stumped for ideas at the moment, so any suggestions would be great.

Well, weirdness in what is chasing her?

Hmm, could be a lot of options.. like obstacles of increasing oddness keep popping up to slow her down,?

As to helping her out... maybe convincing her to turn and confront what she is running from?

A Rainbow Dash clone is chasing her, come to devour her and replace.

Especially if the lamppost is the thing trying to kill her. And it has the head of her old schoolteacher.

Are we talking like that anime standard floating bits and pieces in the dark of space destroyed world?

Nothing is creepier than Out Of Character. Perhaps some out of character allies are confusing RD and spike has to bring the clarity.

[up]Ohhh I kind of like that. They are acting JUST enough like themselves that you can tell who they are, they they feel 'real' but just off enough to hit the Uncanny Valley.

That's possible, but I'm not sure it would really fit the story at this point. The lamppost thing might work though.

Here's another Pokémon crossover idea. Yay. *sarcasm*

Basically, Discord gets free again and decides to travel to the Pokémon world and spread chaos there. And Ash and his friends have to stop him with the help of the Mane Six.

Takes place during the XY saga and you guessed it, before Discord's Heel–Face Turn. I know I've posted crossovers like this a lot but I couldn't help it because I was bored.

Wouldn't know about that. The feature box yesterday did clue me into a new (fortunately not too much of a doorstopper) obsession: Meep the Changeling's Equisverse. (Epic plots and alternate timelines aside, I will note for the red flag-sensitive that the grammar in-story seems rather better than that in the summaries, and that it's worth getting past a few "Featured on" entries.tongue)

Ugh. Nothing worse than finding a story for an obscure ship you really like, only for the story to turn out to be shit.

I'm pretty sure Diamond Tiara has never used a valley-girl 'like' in the show. Certainly not every other sentence. And Silver Spoon definitely doesn't use the diction of a 70-year-old academic. By the time Silver Spoon showed up I was barely reading the thing, but I assume she was written wrong as well.

-checks feed
-sees interview post regarding "Fluttershy's Secret Kissing Story"
-thinks "Fluttershy remembers the kisses she'd shared over her lifetime, reflecting on the different circumstances and how she'd grown as a pony." (Romance/Slice of Life) sounds cute
-clicks to story page
-OH DEAR GOD

Apparently it's a deliberate thematic thing.

So I've hit a wall in trying to write my CB/40k crossover. As I noted previously, I basically imagined newfoals to be psychically linked to each other as some sort of Hive Mind, but now that I think about, it basically reduces the Ponies to Tyranids by any other name. My initial idea was that Xenolestia was a 5th Chaos Goddess of Order and the CB!Ponies basically operate as a distorted parody of the Imperiumnote , but in practice it seems too similar to the Star Father from The Shape of the Nightmare to Come. Also, as much as I like the idea of the CB being a parody of the Imperium, but I find it hard to make it not just another 40k faction with a Pony-coloured coat of paint thrown on it.

Well, I suppose it depends on how strongly the parodic/satirical/exaggerated elements are played up. Other than that, not really sure what you're asking.

On another note, regarding the bizarre characterization quote blocks I posted quite a while ago, full disclosure- it dawns on me that I'm a bit of a hypocrite. One of my own favorites includes

Celestia looked down at her subject with something close to pity. “In those days, polygamy was freely practiced in Canterlot. It’s only in recent years that you earth ponies have saddled the rest of us with your feeble moral code.”
and
“How noble of you.” Applejack replied sarcastically.
Celestia wrinkled her nose. “What would a bumpkin like you know about nobility?”
evil grin Fortunately, writing up a Ron the Death Eater example around this ended up sparking a dialogue/friendly acquaintance with the author which finally brought me around to creating the work page.

Am I the only one who feels really limited by the Flintstone Theming when it comes to worldbuilding?

Definitely not, I feel it too if I try to stick to it... which is why I don't. The only countries that have punny names in my stories are the ones established by canon(Equestria, Trottingham, Fancee, as opposed to the other nations of Accipo, Aloa, Passlands, Zohannon, Furheim, El'Bia, The Eastern Islands, Mitaan and Ashantimare) and I tend to avoid doing anything too 'horsey' with my worldbuilding elements. Most of my stuff is a hodge-podge of poorly understood cultural elements slapped together and tied up with a ribbon of mysticism until it feels less racist and more unique.

-do laundry and put on fresh bedding
-get to bed late
-remember that I wanted to go over a particular author's stories to see if there's any explanation of an out-of-place possible post-apocalypse reference in one I read this morning
-find the next fic is about Twilight trying to get the day over with and into her freshly laundered bed
