Man, NN would be ridiculously overpowered once all the Four Elements are back.

So Magic Is a Monster Magnet, but it's still useful in legion battles, right? It would be fun seeing an enemy legion getting Zerg Rushed by an army of monsters from the Unlimited Field.

SAO episodes have something running through them ("AWxSAO OVA" and the date IIRC) around the halfway point every week.

Has anyone bought and played the video game? I am thinking of importing a copy.

I heard it was something where you could pick a "Black Lotus", "Scarlet Rain" or "Lime Bell" path in an Visual Novel sense and this is intersped with a 3D fighting game or an RPG, any confirmation?

I'm not really considering getting it but if the concept is fun enough I might get it.

Also, if there's a "Haru x Cyan Pile" path I'm totally getting it.

I assume those three paths are meant to represent close-range, long-range and indirect attacking? Sounds interesting, but it would have been more interesting to give you a generic avatar and have you pick between a bunch of wildly different parameters as you level up.

I was avoiding bumping the thread for this, but I just put a review of the anime on my blog.

After doing a bit more research, I found out that it's actually a Visual Novel-slash-Dating Sim-slash-Role-Playing Game in the vein of Dissidia Final Fantasy.

Oh, and yes, there is a Taku/Cyan Pile route.

[up] You play as Haru throughout the entire thing and I did see a system that seems to increase your stats depending on who likes you the most.

Great review too.

Ha ha ha. Had fun trolling Haru's haters at MAL, but at the same time, I feel bad at myself. My ass will definitely be handed to me soon enough.

I'm sure most of us have seen EX 01, but I'm not sure about EX 02 (I haven't).

Unless you mean the 4Koma stuff?

Izaak uses a Phoenix Down!
So, I just updated the Accel World character page with pictures (finally!). Any comments? Suggestions? I'm going for an avatar-real life-duel avatar sort of format, but they're all going to be pretty tall (thankfully most of the characters they're going to be used for already have long pages, but pity Yuniko and 'Pard.) All the pictures are from downloaded from Random Curiosity if anyone's wondering, and majority of them have their width set to 350 pixels.

Also, get me a picture of Fuuko/Sky Raker in the second opening. That'll be perfect for her character entry.

I've got news for you folks: White Cosmos' design has been revealed. Admittedly its for a game and it might even be a placeholder for the Light Novel about to be released soon. Its speculated that the throne she's sitting on is The Luminary, one of the Seven Arcs.

Also, preview of OVA #2, hilariously narrated by Ash Roller.

I guess pre-ordering it wasn't a bad idea.

Despite my complaints, I can't wait for the second season of this show if it'll exist at all. I'd gladly breeze through all the LNs if I knew Japanese.

Anyways, first game is in the mail, should get it by next week and be able to post a short review.

Ginyoku no Kakusei, where to start...

The fighting game part is hard. Really hard. Silver Crow is not a blank slate, he's metal colored and therefore has amazing defense. The game will want you to remember this throughout. Light Blue avatars are the hardest challenge. Though eventually it gets easier if you play your cards right.

Your stats are influenced by the number of battles you win, but so far I haven't leveled up or anything like that.

There's a menu where you pick one of several things to do on free days (the rest of them are spent watching the plot with little input in a VN style, you do get to pick your route at the start (I picked Takumu [lol] out of KYH, Chiyu, Niko, Megu and a bird thing) though you can go on dates with anybody (I'm still in February and the game last for nine months) but so far only KYH, Taku and Chiyu. I just went on my first 'big' date with KYH (went to the museum) , which nets you a CG. It's sort of like Persona with the day management/fighting, but much less fighting. On dates you input a bit more in the VN style.

Just installed Brain Burst for Chiyu, I wonder how much more of the plot we'll cover (Notnouminotnouminotnoumi) and we're about to die fighting KYH (Already lost once).

Luckily every VN scene is skippable if you've already seen it (I think, I'm trying to get through all the dialogue) and everything is voice acted (including installing data and the many variations of the non-piracy warning, so far I've got KYH, Nico and Pard).

Volume 13 is already out, though I don't have a link. I'm not sure if Baka-Tsuki has already translated it.

  • It's the cultural festival. However, three members of the Red Legion are picking a fight with Silver Crow, Ardor Maiden, and Aqua Current, in violation of the non-aggression pact (possibly one between Prominence and Nega Nebulus).
  • Karen's true identity is Akira Himi (Himi Akira, 氷見 あきら). Adding to her seemingly androgynous form is that the name Akira can also be used as a guy's name. From this image however (second one from the right, next to Pard), she's definitely a girl, and a pretty endowed one at that. The reason Haru felt she was flat is that she might have bound her boobs with something during her time as a bodyguard.

The translation of Accel World is WAY behind. Most of the post-anime stuff is not translated yet and I have been spoiled for a lot of the terms that come up from them (though not most of the plots).

Fortunately, SAO is mostly up-to-date.

It's quite obvious that Kawahara would spend more time for SAO than for AW since the former is the more popular among the two.

So basically, it is possible that SAO is actually his flagship project, and AW is more of something along the lines of "I'm going to write whatever crap I could think of and still get away with it" type of story.

And it shows. Kirito has way more fans than Haru can ever dream of. He has transformed from a low-level player to a high-level player within a span of a single episode by virtue of pure, unadulterated awesomeness.

But of course, there's no way anime viewers could know how exactly he did that unless they're hardcore MMO gamers or have read the Light Novel since the anime has skipped a lot of mission arcs which could have realistically shown Kirito's progress in the plot.

I mean, sure, Haru has already progressed quite decently in Brain Burst (he's currently at Level 5), but he's still nowhere near the point where we could expect him to "make the final shot", so to speak.

Not to mention how they are wrong anyways. AW is the more popular one of the two.

Well, more consistently popular, if you're gonna pull that. SAO's anime caused it to blast past Accel World by a longshot.

And, y'know, Haru is a far more flawed and layered character than Kirito is. Haru at his worst is a whiny, ineffectual wreck, but character development means that happens less often. Kirito at his worst is an overconfident Sue who effortlessly marginalizes every other character and obstacle, and character development means that happens more often.

Well didn't the latter only get picked up as a light novel because AW was so popular?

#749: Feb 13th 2013 at 2:25:03 PM

Other way around - SAO won a one-shot contest and then the creator wrote Accel World, which was picked up because of SAO. And then he continued SAO.

Really? I heard he wrote the former online but it didn't get popular until after AW got picked up and only then did it gain popularity. At least that's what I've heard on here and a few other sites. Still, AW is the more popular one wither way.
