Sounds like a plan.
Trope Transplant this to being plots which involve saving an entire world.
Off-topic, but where is this supposed Special Efforts thread for discussing improperly medium-specific tropes? I've got another one.
Oppression anywhere is a threat to democracy everywhere.Ah, thanks!
Oppression anywhere is a threat to democracy everywhere.Clocking due to lack of activity.
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.Are people more or less agreed to a Trope Transplant with Saving the World being about a plot where heroes avert The End of the World as We Know It? If so, let's start a rename crowner for the High Fantasy Plot Always Escalates Into Saving The World From Destruction And Thats Terrible part of it.
Most of the non-video game wicks are already using it in this way (and, of course, in an X Just X fashion).
Yeah, I don't think we've had any real objections to any suggestions. I just don't think anyone's gone and done the rewrite.
I'll take a stab at it on Sandbox.Saving The World.
Fight smart, not fair.Boom, basic description in. Couldn't think of many related tropes for that paragraph and it's kind of spartan overall.
Fight smart, not fair.So what's happening with this? Saving the World is still very videogame-specific (to the point that rather than splitting the examples into media, they're split into game genres).
Crowner affixed to thread.
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.The trope as is seems to be the observation that the end goal is always saving the world, no matter what it starts out as (as ABK 0100 pointed out way before me). This sounds specific enough to be a separate trope, but in either case, Saving the World is way way way too broad of a name for the connotations of this trope.

I think neither should be videogame specific. This is a general plot trope, as is the name.
Everyone okay with Sandbox.Saving The World?
Fight smart, not fair.Looks fine to me.
Avatar art by Lorna-Ka.No new votes for a week or two now.
Okay, the last bump attracted a bunch more votes. Can we call this?
"seemingly small-focus stories escalating into world-saving,"
I really want to call this World Shaking Climax, but I can see how that could be misinterpreted...
It's been a while now, and consensus seems clear. What has to be done to call it?
Calling crowner: transplant the current trope after making it non-video game specific and rewrite Saving the World to be the broader trope about saving the world.
We'll need a name for the new trope.

Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.Falls down somewhat on the "not limited to videogames" stipulation.
So the broad trope is "at the end of the work, the world needs to be saved", is that about right? Like Grand Finale or Big Damn Movie, but within a single storyline?
Third Act Global Jeopardy? Global Jeopardy Ending? Save The World Ending?

Yes, that's the gist. Third Act Global Jeopardy is interesting.
Fight smart, not fair. But a bit long. Third Act Apocalypse rolls off the tongue better.
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.But "Apocalypse" implies the world does end, whereas we're talking about it ultimately being saved.
Unfortunately The World Is Always Doomed is already taken, for serial works in which the world needs saving on a regular basis. Still, worth listing it as a related trope.

Crown Description:
What would be the best way to fix the page?
Looking at the page itself (Saving the World), I'm noticing that the example section isn't listing examples of "conflict gradually escalates until the world is at stake." It's just listing examples of Video Games that happen to involve saving the world. I don't think there's any way we're going to be able to have a trope named "Saving the World" that isn't just about saving the world in general.
If there is a trope here to salvage (and give a different name), here's what I think it might be:
"Certain mediums and genres aren't seen as being suited to low-stakes conflicts. In epic high fantasy and science fiction stories (I say that because that's what just about all the video game examples fall under) the plot will always end up escalating to a Save-the-world plot, even if things started out much simpler."
