I loved 3D Land. Ever since I was a kid I wanted a Mario game like that, so maybe it's just bias. I'm really excited for 3D World, it's just behind A Link Between Worlds, DKC: Tropical Freeze, and (of course) Smash Bros. on my wishlist.

🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaI feel 3D World is shaping up to be a much better game than its predecessor (as it should be, being a console game). It's sorta like the jump from NSMB 2 to NSMBU.
Lots more action going on; less blocky level design; more unique stage mechanics such as the Sea Serpent water ride and the Kuribo's Shoe ice skating; the cast from Super Mario Bros. 2 as playable characters *, with multi-player co-op to boot; the new power-up having a wide array of uses; less SMB 3 influence apparently, as there's no enemies with tails to be found and the Tanooki Suit itself has only been seen once so far; and there could be more, but that's all we know about the game for sure.
Judging from that snake king shown in the E3 demo, they seem to be going for far more interesting boss fights. Being able to pick any character you want to play as in single player from the start will bring up some significant replay value as well.

Eh.Also judging from the snake boss thing, like I said, I think the story involves the kings of the Mushroom Kingdom being transformed into monsters again. notice the crown and cape?
Ah, you already noticed he was a king!
It was because they had leftover ideas from Galaxy 1 that they wanted to use. But yeah, a 3 is unneeded.

🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaAnother Galaxy would be bad. A Spiritual Sequel? Sure, great! But honestly Galaxy 2 was unnecessary, much less a 3.
Eh, I'd prefer something new instead of Galaxy 3, but I'd take it. I don't see how it's any less "necessary" than New Super Mario Bros 2 and U.
The NSMB series is newcomer-oriented, while the 3D games are more veteran fan-oriented. This is why it's fine for the NSMB series to have the same gameplay throughout, but it isn't fine for the 3D games to be as samey.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page. That 3rd Star Coin in the Swaying Ghost House took way too damn long for me to get.

🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaI wonder how many ideas from Super Mario Bros. 2 would be used in Super Mario 3D World. The subcons are apparently back (look at the pic with the large dinosaur), and of course the four main characters with differing abilities. One thing I liked about the original game was that one level had a gap between two tall buildings that could be crossed easily as Peach/Toadstool, but otherwise you'd have to go in the buildings. Another level had a secret that could only be reached as Luigi using his charged-up super jump, on top of his highest jumping skills. It would be nice if this game also had areas that could only be reached as certain characters.
I was thinking 3D World wasn't adding much new, but it looks as if the transparent pipes with their unique movement mechanics, and the use of "vehicles" (dinosaur, giant ice skate) add a few new things, and the cat suit with wall climbing could result in some more creative level designs. I'm glad the Tokyo team is trying out new things that shake up the formula. I wonder if there's other new stuff we don't yet know about.
I'm up for joining Discord servers! PM me if you know any good ones! That Peach-hovering gap can actually be crossed with Luigi's super jump as well.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Yup, that's true. I hope they have at least a couple Peach-only areas though. As well as Luigi-only (high jumping) and Toad-only (running, like maybe across a collapsing bridge). But that leaves Mario without a speciality.
I'm up for joining Discord servers! PM me if you know any good ones! But of course. He's Mario. Maybe we could give him the wall jump like in 64 DS.
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaThe fact that he's freaking Mario?
Seriously though, maybe he would do more damage to bosses or something.
Your Honor...@Waxing Name: I don't understand. Is it impossible to appeal to newcomers and feel fresh at the same time?
Anyhoo, I've warmed up to 3D World since its announcement. It looks like it has a lot more gameplay variation and unique scenarios than its predecessor, what with the swimming dinosaur, clear pipes, rising pit of fuzzies, and giant ice skates. The fact that it's confirmed to have both Koji Konda and Mahito Yokota working on it (along with the possibility of live-recorded music) doesn't hurt either.

I too am warming up to it. I just hope it's of a sizable length.
Anyway, it still looks like Mario is The Mario, and doesn't have anything special to make him "better" than the other characters. Of course, his averageness will work to his favor overall, but I doubt there will be any special Mario-only sections that only Mario can reach.
I'm up for joining Discord servers! PM me if you know any good ones!Wait, is the Wall Jump confirmed to be in this game? I haven't seen it being used anywhere in gameplay footage.
One thing I did notice was that they brought the Spin Jump back, and it functions exactly like it does in Sunshine (run around in a circle, and jump).
Eh.It was in 3D Land, so why wouldn't it be?
Well, I don't know. I was just thinking about it.
Eh.I wish they'd add in all the moves of Super Mario 64. It was fun performing all the different movements, including sliding and bellyflops.
I'm up for joining Discord servers! PM me if you know any good ones! And Kicks and Punches. Plus his crawling and ability to do a whirlwind kick while crawling.
...It's weird having so many websites and no way to properly display now, lol.I miss the sliding and bellyflopping.
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.3D Land made up for it by rolling and leaping. It's even better with Tanooki Mario, with spinning and leaping!
🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaI never punched or kicked when I played 64. I did the natural thing all 2D Mario players do and jumped on enemies.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.Well. Now there's actual gameplay videos of Dream Team floating around. As in, someone managed to get an early copy and start recording. Careful where you look.
I saw the tutorial battle myself (for once it's not Bowser, or any form of it), and I have to say, WHAT THE HECK DOES HARD MODE DO TO MAKE SOMEONE DIE THERE!? Turn Mario into a 1HP glass cannon or something?
You got some dirt on you. Here's some more!
I think the thing from the Galaxy games that I'd most like to see return is probably the art direction. The graphical style of 3D World and the NSMB series just looks kinda bland.
