That's right Disney is making a live-action spin-off to Sleeping Beauty focusing on the Big Bad Maleficent's point of view.

Originally Tim Burton was set to direct (along with Angelina Jolie in the starring role) but dropped out for some reason. Now Disney is asking Darren Aronofsky (the director of Black Swan) to direct.

My reaction? Well one of the awesomest, hammiest Disney villains is getting her own movie? Hell yes!

Umm...I'm a bit skeptical on it.

Wasnt there talks about a live-action Disney film based on the animated Cinderella classic?

[up]No it wasnt. I remember there was an article online(it came out a few months after Tim Burton's Alice was in theaters) and it talked about it. I remember that the comments sounded negative, but It wasn't coming from Cartoon brew.

Just as long as they don't retcon her into a poor, misunderstood outcast a la Wicked.

^^ If they do, it'll ruin the character.

I would love to see Disney make a terrifying film that children can enjoy. They used to do them but they ended up listening to the complaints of soccer moms.

Aronofsky to (supposedly) direct? I dunno. I mean, I really like his stuff, but, Him + a Disney Project = a what type reaction from me. Admittedly, he could do a dark version no doubt about it, but he hasn't really done a lot of "family" films that I can really think of. It would definitely be interesting though.

Villian Protagonist - Tim Burton + Fariry Tales + Diney + Black Sawn = Uncertain Expectations

I see many ways they could screw this up , but I will keep my fingers crossed as well.

I wonder who is going to play her. Because I think that's going to be central to it being good.

I was going to say the voice actress from KH 2, but then I saw live-action ...

Maybe that lady who was in Devil Wears Prada? ... I have no idea xD I'm still sceptical though, just as I am with all prequels, midquels, sequels and remakes.

Holy Grail, huh? Cool story, bro.

Meryl Streep is probably the only person who can pull this role off.

I'm normally extremely hesitant about any Disney spin-off ideas, but this is... surprisingly awesome.

^Maleficent is an interesting character, with potential to be fleshed out. She's a character that would actually be interesting to see her backstory. Much better than, say, following some random offspring of Aurora and the Prince.
