[up]I understand that getting someone raped is a giant deal than insulting someone. I'm just sick of people dismissing Chris' behavior as Annoying Younger Sibling behavior, when it's obvious that he Took a Level in Jerkass just like his monsters for parents (Chris isn't nearly as bad as Peter and Lou's tho). I don't hate Chris though (he earned major points with me when he called Lois a bitch once, he should insult her often and he may become one of my favorites).

Chris isn't really as awful as his family. Except maybe Stewie.

[up]True, but Chris and Stewie aren't as bad as Meg ("Dial 'M' for Meg", and the fact that she had a gay guy rape Chris), Brian (annoying douche, and then he gave Chris and Stewie Herpes and didn't even show remorse), Peter, and Lois.

[up]Why are you bringing up "Dial Meg For Murder?" I hate the double standard that people can be awful to Meg, but when she gets revenge, she's in the wrong. I agree with the rape one though.

I say that's a gray area for Dial "M" for Meg.

Usually getting revenge is seen as wrong, but she was very justified there.

[up] Understandable. However, the whole "revenge is not the answer" moral is very annoying when it comes to victims of abuse/bullying fighting back against their attackers. It's just an excuse to paint Meg as a bad guy for fighting back.

Also, while I agree with you that Chris did the least damage out of the Griffins, Stewie is no saint and people forget that he is worse than Meg and Brian. While Stewie became nicer, he used to be a Enfant Terrible.

This is coming from someone who loves Stewie, BTW.

I'm talking about post-cancellation for how awful these characters are.

Stewie used to be evil. But he was very likable as a villain. Nowadays, he's better than most of his family.

You know, I miss how they took away Chris' earrings and his artistic side. Now he only has all the masturbation jokes to keep him from being a full on younger version of Peter, which to be fair, he basically was in the early seasons too, but at least then he had more substance.

[up]I'll admit, I liked Chris in the old seasons, actually. I actually liked the whole family before flanderization kicked in.

The Griffins were very likable early on. Now it's difficult to really find any character who is even slightly likable.

I actually think Stewie's more likeable now than he was before.

I really wish they didn't change Cleveland's entire personality so now he's basically "stereotypical black guy". I mean, it's better than he was on The Cleveland Show where he was basically a toned down, black version of Peter but still.

I still like the characters, but as long as they make me laugh, I don't care how "mean" they are.

The meanness only bothers me in certain situations. And even then I'm not exactly sure why. Maybe because for the most part I feel their kind of clever about it and the instances that do get to me is because it just seems lazy.

Anyway, I can still enjoy most of these characters though I have to admit I do dislike some of them a lot more than I used to. Peter gains most of my ire though I think I liked him the least in the family from the beginning.

I was looking at some of the posts from after Brian died, and I have to respond to something.

Johnny Sasaki said, "am I the only one questioning how he could die like that when he survived much worse stuff?" Hcobb replied, "What has he survived that is worse than being hit then deliberately ground under two tires?" to which Trollblade69 replied "My mind wanders to Patriot Games in an instant."

Patriot Games in question is the infamous episode where Stewie gives Brian two gangsta beatings. I admit it's pretty nasty, yet is it the most pain he's endured over the course of the series, at least to the point that it's instantly what we think about when thinking of Brian and pain (not even to "Quagmire's Dad")?

Here's a list of injuries Brian has sustained over the series, not counting the above and the events of Life of Brian.

Season 3

Lethal Weapons: Suffered a groin attack by Stewie, got beaten up, and broke his arm. To Love and Die In Dixie: Bashed his head into the General Lee. Brian Wallows and Peter's Swallows: Gets punched by someone in a cutaway, covered in burning delicing powder, and steps on broken glass.

Season 4

Brian the Bachelor: He got a phone thrown at his head. Brian Goes Back to College: He got his eyes peppersprayed. Brian Sings and Swings: Peter backed into him, nearly killing him (this is another one that we should instantly think of).

Season 5

Saving Private Brian: He was struck with a rifle and shot in the foot. Barely Legal: He got punched repeatedly by Loiz and knocked out by Meg with a bag of dog food. No Meals on Wheels: He got repeatedly shocked by Peter.

Season 6

Mc Stroke: Peter beat him to a bloody pulp in a cutaway that involved him having a horse foot. Play It Again, Brian: In his fight with Peter he got beaten to a bloody pulp (and beat Peter to one as well). Long John Peter: He got beaten to a bloody pulp by Chris.

Season 7

The Man With Two Brians: He hurt his back trying to save Peter. We Love You Conrad: He fell on broken glass.

Season 8

Quagmire's Dad: Do I have to say? sad

Season 9

Exellence in Broadcasting: He got beaten to a pulp by a group of thugs. The Hand that Rocks the Wheelchair: He got his tail chopped off!! Tiegs for Two: Quagmire backed into him with his car.

Seaosn 10

Seahorse Seashell Party: He cut his ear off to prevent world war II. Back to the Pilot: He got shot in the leg. The Blind Side: He got his tail chopped off and his ass set on fire! Mr. and Mrs. Stewie: He got tranquilized by Penelope's ray gun. Leggo My Meg-go!: He got quite a few bruises, if I remember correctly.

Season 11

Yug Ylimaf: He got thrown backwards into the wall and knocked out. Joe's Revenge: He hurt his back. Total Recall: A remote controlled plane crashed into his eye. Christmas Guy: Stewie gave him another Groin Attack. Herpe the Love Sore: He obviously cut his hand. Meg Stinks!: He got blinded by a skunk and started crashing into things.

Season 13

The Book Of Joe: His leg snapped. Brian the Closer: He got smashed into a fire hydrant, got his teeth knocked out, and subsequentially had them re-knocked out at the end of the episode.

So why am I writing this? Well, obviously to show that what happened to Brian in Patriot Games is just the tip of the iceberg and that while what Stewie did was pretty brutal, it probably wasn't brutal or memorable enough to make one forget all the other injuries Brian has suffered.

That, and I love gathering data. That's why I love TV Tropes. wink

Sorry if this was sort of irrelevant, but hey, Family Guy itself is pretty irrelevant.

Sorry to bring the thread down, but am I the only one who notices the double standards between female characters on this show? I noticed that most of the beautiful women on this show (Lois, Bonnie, and Connie) are complete cunts, but can be portrayed sympathetically (well, except for Connie because she's supposed to be disliked).

For example, Lois and Bonnie cheated on their husbands, but the show treats them sympathetically. However, Loretta, who is "ugly," cheated on Cleveland and she gets called out on her actions. When she died, the other characters even mocked her for her death.

Not really, Lois was actually remorseful about that time with Bill Clinton, and Bonnie didn't cheat, but her decision to do so and entire attitude on the matter was shown to be wrong and callous through out the episode.

Loretta wasn't treated sympathetically because she wasn't sympathetic. Her entire relationship was Cleveland was about her dominating him without remorse and when she got tired of that, she threw him away.

The attractiveness of those involved had nothing to do with how they were treated.

[up]I guess I was wrong.

While Loretta didn't deserve death, she not only cheated on Cleveland, but she kicked him out of the house as well. While I agree that Loretta was a worse wife/person than Bonnie, she's still not as terrible as Lois because she never raped Cleveland or abuse her kids like Lois does to Meg, so I still think it's favoritism amongst the writers though, because Lois is such as saint.

*EDIT* Actually, in The Cleveland Show, Loretta did eventually feel bad for what she did to Cleveland and tried to take him back, but Cleveland told her to move on.
