Still opposed to splitting, for the reasons stated before.

This thread needs to be resolved.

I would say that the two subtypes are distinct enough for their own tropes, but the "contrast between the two" is its own trope as well. I'd suggest making Eagleland a supertrope that covers the dissonance trope (ie, the current "mixed" examples), with type 1 and type two as subtropes.

Isn't it already a supertope? Subtropes start from American Robot to Wild Wilderness. I guess you mean add these two flavors in the list.

Anyway I agree on the split. We can decide later on the names.

The fact that there are these two views of America is what makes it a trope. Better to keep them together.

There's only one person against splitting right now. Everybody else is thinking for a name. Go with the crowner, maybe opinions will change if you're not influenced by anyone's post.

I count at least myself, Stubby Penguin, and Fast Eddie as being clearly and firmly in the "do not split" camp.

There are a couple others that have expressed some concerns about splitting, but they might be not against split, just concerned with the way it's done.

Or are you of the opinion that if you just keep bringing it up that people who posted against a split stop counting once they get bumped to a previous page?

3 people against, 5 people (not counting me) for. More reason for the crowner. It's not YMMV, I can tell this, YES there are problems with the split, but still there are also people who are thinking about the name, which means they consider it the split, fait accompli. Deboss says this is the about the fifth time this has been suggested, which means there are many tropers that have considered splitting, and if this doesn't get resolved now, this discussion will be brought up again and again. I support the split, whether it's hard or soft, whatever it's more convenient, something has to be done so this discussion comes to an end. It started in April, has lasted too long, and there are only 36 posts.

Three against and five for (haven't counted them myself, but for the sake of argument I'll assume that count is accurate) isn't exactly a good sign that another go will result in any more of a clear consensus. A yes/no ratio of 1.67 doesn't really scream "overwhelming majority".

The reason it keeps being brought up is because there is a section of tropers that want to split it. However, the split keeps failing because a section of tropers don't want to split it.

Feel free to add summaries of the arguments for and against splitting.

Great then...next time this will be brought up (if it's brought up), we can close the discussion in considerably less than 8 months.

I could get behind a 'sliding scale' for this trope, but the main page is fine the way it is. Maybe subpages if you really want to.

I was thinking that too, in this way there would not be another discussion for the split, but then again, next time somebody will suggest splitting there won't be this problem, because the tropers already voted "no" to splitting. At least for now it's "no", but I can see a huge gap in the votes...
