I'm trying very hard and utterly failing to decide which of the characters in the food court I should send my boys over to interact with, and related posts seem to be few and far between due to the large number of simultaneous arcs going on. It looks like there are at least three distinct arcs currently in the food court, but I'm having a hard time parsing them because of the space between related posts.

Could someone kindly break down what's going on in the food court, and who is involved in which arcs there? It doesn't have to be an in-depth description. I'd really appreciate it!

Well, they aren't really "arcs", but there's three groups and two individual characters in the food court by my count:

  • Leo and Nore and Solin are talking at one table.
  • Aida and Marion are talking at another table.
  • Kel and Selina are about to try and go find Selina's sister. Note that this one isn't moving very fast.
  • And Rufus and Nagako are both standing around by themselves looking for someone to interact with.

Links to descriptions for all of these characters are on the trope page, I think.

Well, by "arcs" I just mean threads of action/conversation that are distinct from other such "threads". You got my gist, though.

You're awesome. I'll see if I can't bother one or both of the singletons.

By the way, Killer Clowns, I wanted to check with you about something regarding the hotel storyline. I've been operating under the assumption that Shark is more or less narratively expendable - i.e., that his death would be a little less of a special circumstance than a normal troper character. I'm not planning on killing him offhand or anything, but I thought I should go ahead and confirm that with you.

[up]Pretty much — Shark is a mook. If he dies, he dies.

Aww hell. Sorry to have been inactive for so long, guys. I thought there would be Wi-Fi network on the cruise ship I was on, and there was, but accessing said Wi-Fi network cost about $1 per minute, and I'm not made of money, so I've been almost completely offline for the past 2 weeks. On the plus side, the ship actually had a copy of the Rivan Codex in its library, which gave me a lot of ideas for world-building, and being offline forced me to work on revising my unpublished writing. (Plus, you know, I got to see the Parthenon, Ephesus, and Istanbul, among other places.)

At any rate, I am back. How far have events progressed in Fair since I've been gone? Is it too late to bring Nioba and Lihiri back in?

The group your characters were a part of is still there, though Leo is probably going to get into some hot water soon, so if you want to rejoin them that's an option. Alternatively, Nagako has left her family's stall and is now wandering around the food court looking for something to eat and maybe some interesting company. I can get a more in-depth recap ready if you're willing to wait for a bit.

On that note, I'll be posting in both threads soon. I want to take a shower and use the bathroom first, though.

[up][up]This description for the food court mostly still holds, although Solip Schism's characters are now speaking with Rufus. There's not a lot of activity elsewhere, but there are several currently inactive stalls whose authors are still participating, including Night's and both of Tera Chimera's, as well as Tevarian's Booth (Sonzai's).

And posted (though the Halloween post was mostly updating Kaguya's status and making it known that she's still a participant).

Nagako's out of the food court now, so if Blackfire wants to have Tamara bump into her that should be an option again.

Sorry for the posting delay. Like I said, not a lot of free-time today. Fortunately, I've got Thursday and Friday off for Thanksgiving, which... well, it could mean anything. If my friend decides to visit for the weekend, I might actually end up busier than normal, especially with my laptop out of mobile commission.

[up]I'm in no rush. I won't get a chance to post today until an hour or so between 5 and 6 PM my time (between 1 and 2 AM GMT), and then I'll be busy much of the day Thanksgiving, though I should be able to get on a few times that day.

EDIT: Heyooooo, I just got informed that I'll be able to leave work at noon today for the holiday, so I'll have much more time to post, if you'll be available at all today. I'll be home and online about two hours from now, and I can stick around for five or six hours after that before I'll need to cut out.

EDIT EDIT EDIT: And I just posted in the food court.

I've re-entered the Fair thread. Since my characters were headed to the hotel before I went on hiatus, they've ended up stumbling upon the Vakaza plotline. I've left it open to the other players' interpretation whether their characters have noticed or not.

[up]...No offense, but that's pretty inconvenient. There's enough authors involved with that to make progress on it pretty slow already.

I suppose I'm waiting on Darkblood, Crystal Glacia, and Master Of Chaos in the dining room in Halloween. Otherwise I'm free for the next four days (except tomorrow maybe. Depends on how tired I am after I get home)

You guys are pretty creative on your usernames...

I made my username when I was twelve on Bulbagarden. I was super into Pokemon and chose the name Glacia because it was the Japanese name of Glaceon, and then added Crystal some time later because ice.

(By the way, I'm technically not supposed to be here because I'm in lab right now, and will be for the next hour and a half. Expect me on to post an hour after that because 45 minute commute.)

@Nrjxll: Oh, hell. I hadn't realized that there were actually at least four different writers involved in that scene. I'll rewrite my bit and move my characters to the ninth floor instead...

[up][up] You sure? I mean... we're the only ones in the hotel, there's no (non-NPC) characters anywhere else. I was going to have Iris suggest that they execute Shark outside out of courtesy for the cleaning staff, and once that's over and the hostage has gotten medical attention, I didn't have any specific plans for what they'll do after that.

Two to four writers may be a good number for ensuring everyone's characters get enough attention, but it's not like five isn't doable.

EDIT: Oh, and Tragedy, the map (see the first post of Halloween) implies that there aren't any windows in the dining room, as it's surrounded on all sides by either hallways or other rooms. In addition, Henri and Jackson are sitting pretty much right in front of the ballroom/dining room door, because Henri could see a pot of coffee sitting on the table through the opened door.

I have no strong feelings either way. As I said it's a little inconvenient and might slow the pace down even more, and in fact I very nearly said something about that in this post earlier. On the other hand I generally don't like retcons in the CDTs if they can be avoided, and have come to prefer just rolling with it.

Edit: Also, there are windows in the dining room, as described on the trope page. It's meant to have a higher ceiling than the rooms immediately next to it.

Huh. Alright.

I mean... I don't see how sending them to the ninth floor instead of the tenth would do them any good, since our group contains the only active troper characters in the hotel. Not to mention that the Vakaza plot's probably going to end soon as it is.
