IIRC from a past exchange with Fast Eddie, in a thread which has unfortunately been deleted by now, the Turn On Tropes index was originally named Fetish Fuel Tropes, but was changed to the current name because of Google's "no ads for pages containing objectionable words like 'fetish', 'loli(con)', etc." policy, after all.

Given the current NSFG Wall System, and more importantly that the original name is much more accurate to the index being, well, "an index of Fetish Fuel(-inducing) tropes" than the name "Turn On Tropes", I propose reverting the article title back to its original name.

Somehow I don't think this is a good idea.

Fetish Fuel as a concept has been moved entirely off-site to a brand new Wiki.

The chances of it coming back, or any page being renamed to it, are zero.

My name is Addy. Please call me that instead of my username.

[up]Only the examples have been shuttled off. The Fetish Fuel page is still here, and I know for a fact that it's still perfectly valid to list Fetish Fuel in a work's trope list - under the recently created YMMV subpage, to precise. Furthermore, there are several "Fetish X" tropes (Fetish Retardant, Fetish-Fuel Future, Fetish Fuel Station Attendant) existent that have not generated any major problems related to their names (besides the occasional cleanup of FFSA's examples, but that's not a unique problem).

Therefore, your argument is pretty much invalid.

The current name is fine. I see no reason to go through effort to rename it.

[up]We already went through the effort of renaming it, we should only fix the old rename that became obselete.

That the other Turn On Tropes refer to this phenomena as Fetish Fuel, is a good reason to rename it.

Fetish Fuel itself wasn't deleted. There's an adequate explanation there of the concept of fetish fuel, along with appropriate directions to where so-inclined people can go.

It's good for the site to distance itself from the spin-off.

I think we should ask Eddie or Janitor if this is okay. Otherwise I'm indifferent to which name.

I think that Turn On Tropes is far more accurate a name for what the index is now. They are no longer just about fetishes, but more vanilla things as well.

Then what would differeniate it from Fanservice then? The clear distinction between the two has been quite important, and previously we had to clean up Fetish Fuel Tropes so that strictly Fanservice-oriented tropes were shuttled to their proper place.

Turn On Tropes turn on characters In-Universe. Fanservice is just for fans. Currently there's a large overlap between the two. Almost all the tropes on one are on the other.

@shimaspawn: Fetish Fuel Tropes' description says otherwise. And even putting that aside, when was that definition you stated decided upon, anyway?

That's just the way I've always heard it referred to, and it's what makes the most sense from the example lists. It's why Turn On Tropes lacks things like Anime Anatomy and the other tropes that only the fans see where as those appear to be the only ones missing from Turn On Tropes.

Anime Anatomy isn't a fetish fuel trope, it's a censorship trope.

And most of the tropes listed can apply to things that turn the audience on, it's not like every example of the Panty Shot, Cat Fight, or Brother–Sister Incest tropes are required to be lampshaded by a character as hot.

The index actually is for the audience, but most of the tropes are not deliberate, while Fanservice is, which is what makes them Fetish Fuel. But the reason for the other name is that this name is considered safe for google, so this stays in front of the curtain, not behind it, which allows revenue.
