The trope description is terribly vague, and the examples don't help.

Some examples refer to a subtrope of Geo Effects wherein a muddy area slows you down and/or endangers you. Some of them just refer to swampy regions, and we already have a page for those. Some examples appear to be about just mud on the ground, which seems to be a bit too People Sit On Chairs for my tastes.

Of the three, the first type of example seems to have the best hope of being a trope. However, we don't seem to have many (any??) Geo Effects subtropes so far, and what we have on this page so far seems to be a weak start.

So, how shall we handle it? Work to define the trope more clearly, make a snappier description, and find some examples to add?

I wouldn't be posting at this forum if I didn't think it a necessary step.

I like the idea of a Geo Effects subtrope.

Is there a case to be made for expanding Geo Effects to be a supertrope, and/or creating a separate page(s) for Stock Geo Effects (Tactical or not, like slippery traction, taking damage over time from the ground, moving slowly in water, etc)?

I'm trying to work on a better description for THIS page before I do some example cleanups. Here's what I have so far.

This is a common subtrope of Geo Effects, where boggy or swampy areas drastically impede your movement. So long as you remain in here, you'll move at a snail's pace, vulnerable to passing enemies. Your jumping may or may not be affected by this, and in fact you may be able to move quickly by repeatedly jumping in and out of the bog.

In some cases the bog may actually be hazardous to your health, dealing damage over time, acting like quicksand and swallowing you whole if you spend too long within, or applying some unpleasant Standard Status Effects.

For some reason, you're never able to simply walk around the hazardous terrain, as the area is almost uniformly flooded like this. Any safer paths will almost certainly be blocked off with fallen logs, impassible treelines, and so on.

[up][up] That's very good. That last bit could use a pothole to Insurmountable Waist-Height Fence, but otherwise it looks like a slam-dunk to me. And at some point we can split off the other subtropes too, I guess.

Alright, I added a few examples and the new description. If anyone can think of some more examples, it'd be appreciated because I know there are more that I just can't place at the moment.

I'll look into cross-linking some wicks later tonight, most likely. And see about that Geo Effects Supertrope bit later.
