I think everyone wanted You Light Up My Life to lose. Especially since a lot of people wanted to see Stayin' Alive get nominated (it was ruled ineligible since it wasn't written for Saturday Night Fever).
And there actually was a You Light Up My Life movie. It was universally panned but made money.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/- As much as I love Ratatouille, Persepolis deserved the title Best Animated Film more (what the hell, IMHO, it was the best film of that year, animated or live action)
- And by the way...Shrek winning that award now seems a little...dubious: that Fractured Fairytale style with lots of pop culture jokes became too old too fast, while OTOH, Monsters Inc has aged a lot better, and if you over think the movie, with that "energy crisis" theme and the questionable commercial practices, you can even say it is more relevant than never

I don't necessarily agree with it, but I know a decent amount of people who think Star Wars should have edged out Annie Hall in 77,
Perhpas. Star Wars is a really good film, but I've always found it's story weak. Annie Hall's is stronger.
And that's the only Annie Hall-sided thing I'll say, being a Star Wars fanatic.
BTW, "The Daffy Duck Rhapsody" which will be released next year will not only fall on Daffy's 75th anniversary, but also if it gets nominated it will be THE VERY FIRST DAFFY SHORT TO GET A NOMINATION!!!!
It ain't gonna win though. I already know that for a fact.
With all the memes about women choosing a bear over a man, Hollywood might wanna get on an 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' adaptationIt's been a while since it was brought up, but i'm going to second Tron Legacy on effects.

Pages Needing Images- The Social Network winning Best Score over How To Train Your Dragon.
- "We Belong Together" from Toy Story 3 winning over...well, everything else.
- If Chicken Run had been nominated for Best Picture, we would have gotten the Best Animated Feature award several years later than we did. We might not even have it at all.
Mean Green Mother From Outer Space losing to that awful Berlin song Take My Breath Away.
While Charlize Theron from Monster did a great job, I shall always be disappointed that Kiesha Castle-Hughes didn't win best actress for Whale Rider. The Academy always snubs young actors and actresses.
Samuel L Jackson for Best Supporting Actor in 2000 for Unbreakable
The Sixth Sense in 1999 for Best Picture with M Night Shyamalan as Best Director and Bruce Willis for Best Supporting Actor
Michael Keaton in 1989 for Best Lead Actor for Batman
WALL-E and UP for animated
Tim Burton for best director for Ed Wood or Big Fish
Steven Spielberg for Best Director and Liam Neeson for Best Actor on Schindlers List
I believe you mean WALL-E and Up for Best Picture.
I liked both District 9 and Hurt Locker better than Up, even before the piloting dogs showed up, so snub there as far as I'm concerned. Persepolis is definitely a better film than Ratatouille.
Letters From Iwo Jima should have won the best picture over The Departed. The damn pirate song almost ruined the movie for me and I had already seen Infernal Affairs so plot wise there was nothing new and I really didn't care about the characters in Scorsese's version.
Am I the only one who would have loved to have seen “You Light Up My Life” lose Best Original Song in 1978? Particularly after all the monkeying required to get it nominated at all (i.e.: the bogus film built around it)? Besides which, “Nobody Does It Better” deserved the Oscar much more.
