I heard of this curious medieval Russian tradition. A free man could marry a female slave but if he didn't get permission from her master first, he would become a slave too.

Would you rather pass up the boy/girl of your dreams, or marry into slavery?

would it be better to ask is love worth slavery? depends on how much you love the person, and what you sacrifice for him or her.

I'd use my mind to break out of a really stupid moral dilemma.

...

Dunno, if I was that madly in love with someone who happened to be a slave, I'd either want to try to fight for that person's freedom or take him on the run.

Man I'd run a cool slave plantation. All the slaves would have good living conditions, and like unless they REALLY REALLY did something bad like kill someone or destroy all my crops or something I wouldn't beat them. And it would be so chill, like we would all drink beer and smoke pot and talk and shit. And like sometimes I would come by and help them work and stuff. Hells yeah, it would be cool. cool

Get money, buy the woman, set her free of any slave contracts, marry her.

What's to stop the slave owner from saying, "Yeah, go ahead, take her" and then once they're married saying, "I never gave you permission; you are now my slave!"

This sounds like it has excellent potential for a period drama with tons of Oscar Bait.

So, if the guy did get permission before marrying her - she was still a slave, right? And her owner could still do whatever he wanted with her?

That sounds like fuel for some unpleasant situations.

@Anonym You've never been a slave, have you?

To answer the question: No, I would find a free to my love and any other slaves her master had.

Would you rather pass up the boy/girl of your dreams, or marry into slavery?

I'd be wondering why such a strong person is a slave.

Accumulate money and free her.

If that's not possible, pass her up. Nothing is worth slavery.

Assuming that the boy's owner refused permission, I would first attempt to buy my love, and then to steal them. If neither of those is an option, then yes, I would go into slavery, in the hopes that we could later escape together.

Uh, have you?

I'd be wondering why such a strong person is a slave.

Hey, a hard-working slave gets physically strong, no?

A slave probably wouldn't be strong for the same reason, though. The only thing it could be considered a slave to is God.

I think the "steal" part covers that.
