Well, most of it, anyway. Richard Jacques contributed one track, and a lot of licensed artists contributed others. (Rob Zombie contributed "Dragula", for instance.)

Cibo Matto is another one, as were Scapegoat Wax and Jurassic 5. Note there were two games.

JSR series has a great soundtrack though and yes you should listen to them. Future's overall is a bit more electronic fittingly enough but both are awesome.

Ollie Kings is another soundtrack that's great, and done by Hideki as well. And yes, 2:14 shares the same sample as windmille island day. Note this game came before it.

I love the JSR soundtracks, and while I think the game is fun (note that I've only played the HD remake of the original, but I'm bidding on Future on eBay), it takes a certain degree of skill which I don't possess.

Still, the music is awesome, and that's all that matters to me. I have a whole playlist in my iTunes of nothing but the JSR soundtracks and the Sonic Rush soundtrack.

(I'm curious, how is the music in Sonic Rush Adventure? I never hear anything about it, and I don't even know if Hideki Naganuma worked on that one too.)

Something completely random, yet terrifyingly fitting.
That was the stupidest yet funniest thing I've seen all day [lol]

SRA's soundtrack is good though and while it has a few similarities with Rush it's different as well. Hideki didn't work on that one though a few tracks sort of follow the style. TBH I actually like SRA's a bit more overall and they sort of fit the levels better(ethno circus had no business on a desert level lol), though my favorites from both are mostly out of Rush's.

I just found out in the crowner index that we have a rarely-used Crowning Music namespace for crowners. When this DDoS business is all over, let's celebrate by voting on our favorite music tracks from each game. I think I'll put in on each Awesome Music entry on each YMMV page. Look for it when they say the crowners are all fixed.

And yes, I'll be grouping Sonic 3 And Knuckles as one game there, too.

Here's a question for everyone who's played the Unleashed Project for Generations: How short is the game now that there's no medal hunting or werehog to pad the game out?

Considering that it's just the main eight Daytime stages, it took me about an hour to complete it.

Also, keep in mind that Sonic games usually never take more than a few hours to complete. So long as they're still good games, it doesn't really matter all that much.

Sonic games should be short to run straight through, but long to 100%.

Oh, like the Mario games. :P Although, I'd agree with you. I'd prefer less stuff to do as long as the stuff that there is to do is especially good, like how Generations does it.

Personally? The only Sonic game I've ever gotten all the emeralds on is Sonic 3D Blast, Genesis version. Mostly because the special stages are a complete JOKE.

Really, that's all they put in it? I mean, just the fact that they were able to do those is impressive, but why stop there?

[up]The only time I was ever able to get all the Chaos Emeralds was when I played the XBLA port of Sonic 3 And Knuckles, and that's only because it gives you savestates.

Sonic 2 Special Stages = Broken and Punk-Ass.

Sonic 1 and 3&K had pretty decent Special Stages: 1's were really weird and trippy, while 3's were also weird and trippy but also looked nice, had nice colours and awesome music. Sonic 2 had a poorly made speedway with the rings and the gravity thing with the walls, and those bombs were cheap.

3d Blast's Special Stages were a joke [lol]

The music is the ONLY thing we like about 3&K's Special Stages.

I liked Sonic 2's special stages. I didn't think they were broken—I thought I just sucked at them. They're pretty easy to do if you're good at them (unlike me).

As for 3D Blast, I never was able to figure out how to even progress through the levels in that game, so don't ask me about the special stages. Maybe I need to give it another shot, though, since I haven't attempted it since I was a kid.

[up]Eh, I thought the music for it was kind of boring.

As of now, yes. Just making those stages function in Generations took well over a year.

I've gotten all the Chaos Emeralds in Sonic [1] (albeit infrequently), Sonic 2, Sonic 3&K (thanks, New Game Plus!), Sonic CD (also infrequently; finding all the robot generators is a much easier task for me), Sonic 3D (PC), Sonic 3D (Saturn), Sonic R (not like that's hard to do), Sonic Advance and Sonic Rush. I think Sonic [1 Game Gear], Sonic Chaos and Sonic Triple Trouble, too, insofar as they count. Maybe Knuckles' Chaotix on an emulator, but I don't think I did it on actual hardware for the brief while I had a 32X.

Fun fact: you know that debugging tool in Sonic [1]'s demos where holding down one of the jump buttons prevents Sonic from jumping? I was actually able to get Sonic to clear special stage 1 in the demo using that. Further demos went to special stage 2. tongue

Well of course, we need to mention Mystic Mansion when it comes to good Sonic music. In general, Heroes did a pretty bang up job with it's soundtrack.

Also, Genesis 3dblast is a bit underrated. Panic Puppet Act 2 and special stage are great for what the Genesis instruments could do for it's time.

Sonic Heroes had really good music in general - even considering Sonic's usual track record for great music. It's like the Sonic CD or Sonic Unleashed of it's gaming generation.
