That comic is nuts. Seriously, kill Porker already! Maybe Porker is Rouge's Nobody, and the Rouge we see in the comic is a Heartless of the real Rouge, who grew up with Knuckles and truly loves him.

Okay I kind of want to know where Jet's pops went. We see a pic of him in Riders just barely and apparently the dude was kind of a badass. Maybe he's part of the reason Jet is such a dick, like he's trying to prove himself as worthy of succeeding his daddy's title.

See, if they just sort of expand on little stuff like that...I think it could go a long way for some of these guys.

It seems that Archie and Fleetway are on two different sides when it comes to faithfulness to the games. Archie is more faithful to the characterizations of the characters, while Fleetway is more faithful to the game mechanics. I find the latter weird, since the games subscribe to Gameplay and Story Segregation.

It also derails their characterization, Sonic is a jerk, Tails is the designated hero, Knux is the same, so far, Amy is a irremedable bitch, Rouge is evil, and Shadow is evil, and Blaze is discriminated

Actually, it's a different writer for a different version. It's just an Alternate Character Interpretation.

A derail only works if it's from the regular games. Fanfics/different media don't ultimately count.

Unless you mean it derails the earlier characterization of them from the earlier parts of Sonic the Comic, of course.

Also, Cream's an evil valley girl, the Chaotix are weird, Big's a resturanteur, Silver is a scientist, and the Babylons are evil.

The very fact that Amy hates Sonic and Shadow is evil make my stomach sick

I've not caught up on the online continuation, though I heard the rest of the team hating Sonic was due to a very convincing setup by Grimer (though that may still not play much into the team's overall trust, similar to how quickly the Freedom Fighters thought Sonic was a traitor twice over in the Archie ones).

My main gripe with Amy in the original Fleetway was more she was just bland, Executive Meddling apparently didn't like her quirkier lovesick personality (which ironically is more or less what became the definitive characterization for her in later continuities) and demanded she be super smart, mature and void of flaws. Reminds me what happened to Sally. But hey, Girls Need Role Models, apparently boring flawless ones.

I admit I didn't like the jerk Sonic that much, especially after being used to the warmer Aosth version by that point (the treatment of Tails between both versions is jarring). Don't remember as much about the other characters, though Knuckles I remember being more stoic and serious, a bit like he was in the Adventure series bar the Butt-Monkey elements, while most of the Chaotix were the same character (intellgent but curmudgeonly and snarky), except Charmy who was a lot like how his games version would turn out.

Truthfully I thought Fleetway separated itself from the games after the first 50 or so issues (ironically Archie gradually became more loyal). Not to mention the deranged plotlines and completely unfitting character designs that make the SEGA cast look even more alien than in Sonic X (eg. the tall bulky humanoid versions of Picky and Pocky).

When Shadow and Rouge turned out pure evil, I was afraid that Blaze would be totally vile too. Also, Tikal is alive in the comic.
