I always felt like I was one of the few people who fell in love with the art style at first sight. In fact, the reason I decided to give Spectacular a try was because of the art style and character designs. I'm just so in love with Sean Galloway's art.

I like Sean Galloway's art, especially in the Hellboy Animated films.

[up][up]A shame he hasn't done much animated work. I believe he's only done this and the Hellboy DT Vs.

Also, your avatar reminded me of the fact that Avengers: EMH also had art that kind of stood out amongst its contemporaries. I particularly liked the Jack Kirby influence on some of the characters.

Yeah, I'm really fond of A:EMH's art too. Avengers Assemble and Ultimate Spider-Man just look so fucking bland and generic.

I will admit that few odd thing in Spectacular like Peter's nose were off-putting, but they were also many designs that looked weird in toys, concept arts, and screenshots, but really grew on you in action. I mean, imagine you never heard about the show and someone showed you the picture of Green Goblin.

Avengers: EMH art style is great. I love how so many designs are faithful adaptations or upgrades of their comic designs, often the early versions or very first ones (Loki, Ant-Man). Throwaway characters like Bi-Beast of Zzzax look great. Living Laser's radical new look is still heavily based on his classic one. Wasp is one of few drastic redesigns and it's mostly hipper fusion of her first outfit with yellow-and-black classic suit. Even weak "Powerless" episode was improved by Destroyer looking awesome.

I honestly think this show is one of the only times the Green Goblin has ever looked good. His design just looks goofy when rendered more realistically, hence why both life-action film decisions tried to reinvent it, both times with... abysmal results.

As amazing as this series was, looking back on it, was Flash Flanderized in this series? Dude was such a complete and total Jerkass that there was 0 reason for Peter to not kick his ass....

Really? I thought they did a good job of giving Flash some depth in this. It starts showing when he gives Peter his What the Hell, Hero? speech at the end of the first season, and grows from there.

Flash actually got some pretty good humanizing moments and character development in this one. Of course he was a Jerk Jock for the lions share but there was definitely movement to a more positive character shift happening.

[up][up]YMMV, but I really don't think the asshole bully character was the right person to snap Peter out of his Symbiote Anger. Would've made more sense for Gwen to do it, IMO.

I think the whole Jerkass Has a Point aspect worked better in this case.

Yeah, the whole point was that Peter was struck by how even Flash, an immature Jerk Jock, had the sense to see what an ass he was being.

What I found most interesting about Flash's character development is that none of it concerned Peter or how he treated him. Beyond calling him out for being a "stuck-up egghead" while under the symbiote, most of it involved Sha-Shan or Harry. He never cuts Peter any slack.

I would've loved to see how his relationship with Peter would've changed. I recall hearing they were interested in adapting the comic story where Peter and Flash go on a boxing match.

Is this series worth watching today or would I just leave with an empty feeling?

You would leave with an empty feeling, but its still definitely worth watching. It's one of the perfect examples of how Spidey, and character like him with ensemble as present as his are, should be adapted.

It does have a conclusion, even though it's not a particularly happy one and it's obvious the creative team didn't intend to leave it at that. And hey, from a certain point of view "the villain is defeated, but it hits everyone hard, some characters go down darker parths, Peter didn't get what he wanted and his life sucks just a little bit more thanks to his own actions" is arguably the perfect way to end a Spidey series anyway.

"Good for you. You're wrong."

Nobody is going to call Nightwire out for that? All the more reason I can't enjoy Spectacular as much as I used to, when I keep seeing fans of it thinking it's okay to verbally harass people with different opinions (especially Ultimate fans.)

Doesn't matter. It needed to be called out.

Expressing disagreement isn't "verbal harassment". Further, this is TvTropes. We are about celebrating fiction.

In a dispute between a person saying, "I think the topic of this thread is great," and one saying, "The topic of this thread is a dumpster fire," most people in the thread will be inclined to side with the former.

You don't go into a thread to whine about how much you hate its topic. That's just common courtesy.

"You are wrong" = "Your opinion is wrong"

Though if people are going to continue to defend trolls and demonize me, again, then I'm stick with editing pages on the main sites.

If that's what you want to do, then go right ahead. If you ever feel like discussing the topic, you're more than welcome to.

Further, if you see someone say something that you feel is offensive, the correct course of action is not to call it out in the thread, but to report it. Any and every post can be reported to the moderation staff with the yellow "Caution Sign" button above it.

And with all due respect, accusations of trolling fall a bit flat when - by all indications - you seem to have joined the conversation solely to pick a fight.

We aren't interested in that.

@The Lemster Pju

On your first comment, are you seriously going to make a big deal about that?

On your second comment, oh God you are making a big deal about that?

On your third . . . Really? You just turned a discussion about Spectacular Spider-Man and it's fandom to make it about yourself.

I mean I would of understand where you are coming from considering the zeal of the fans in trying to force people to like what they want. But in regards to the comment made by Nightshade; not only was it not "harassment" towards a commenter (arguing that somebody's opinions are wrong isn't harassing them) but it was a past discussion everybody moved past.

Your input is a bad mix of Fan Hater and the Streisand Effect as all it does is bring to attention unnecessary drama; and fuck me I am just adding the flame to it.

Well then, maybe I should continue the discussion by saying that the show is worth the watch and rewatch. The story is a great retelling on the Spider Man lore that updates the characters according to fit a structured narrative. The show has a good balance of action, drama and comedy providing a good variety for viewers to enjoy. While the art style is a fine example of being an acquired taste, there is no denying that this show has some of the most well animated action scenes. And the amount of continuity and Easter Eggs really make rewatching past episodes a joy to watch.

Alas the only downside is its sudden cancellation which leaves only 26 episodes to watch and feeling that more could of been done for the show. Especially how the season finale left off; IMO I don't think it's a satisfying conclusion. Yeah Spidey beat the Goblin but let's not forget that Peter didn't get the girl in the end (Gwen), his friend Harry hates him AND Spider-Man, Liz probably also don't like him for the way he treated her in their relationship, and Norman got away with all he have done by faking his death. Not to mention some loose plot lines that didn't get wrapped up like the Connor's exile to Florida, Black Cat's vendetta towards Spidey, and the second time Miles Warren descends to villainy didn't get a proper pay off (Spider-Man TAS is th first). So that's really the downside to watching this show; you WILL want more after it is over.
