My Psychology: Personalities?

It has just been noticed by me that sometimes, my personality on the internet and in real life has been...fluxing. It seems I have several modes I go into. It all started when I was in 11th Grade, and I started receiving bullying again.

I decided that there was a need to get rid of the bullies, so I came up with a different "personality style" for myself. I started adding a little more violent traits, like being a tad Hot-Blooded, talking big and trying to pick fights with the bullies, and aspects of a Jerk Jock.

There are others, like flirty playboy me, rich prat me, and even a bisexual me. Then once I started to be defeated in Yugioh Tournaments, I came up with some creepy personality modes, like a Legato Bluesummers, just to freak out my opponents.

Then I added a strong silent type of persona to the A Darker Me gallery, followed by a version of Sensui's Shinobu personality.

Is this...normal? Do normal people decide every day what kind of me they are going to be?

Just to clarify, these Modes are chosen by me, and they don't control me, I tend to switch between them based on the situation. So it might just be A Darker Me taken Up To Eleven. And no, I do NOT tell myself one Mode did something and not me. They are all me, but they are so...different.

Should I be concerned about this?

Really? So this isn't one of the personality disorders?

Unless the personalities are completely different and overtake your psyche like schizophrenia, then no.

No, if you had a personality disorder you'd know by now.

Everyone projects a different persona on the internet because of the difference in how you interact with people. Typing up a post on a forum is very different from talking to someone face to face, so it figures.

Yeah, but the confusion arises because I tend toward acting these ways outside the internet, as in talking to people face to face in a personality mode.

That's okay too, those are just different sides of yourself.

Oh, alright, I was just worried. My family does have a history of mental disorders. One aunt has Borderline Personality Disorder.

Thanks for the help, TV Tropes.

Everyone, to some extent, wears different personality "masks" depending on where they are and who they're dealing with. Your post just makes me think you're more ... enthusiastic ... about your mask-of-the-moment.

As was said, unless you feel like you're losing control, or not really choosing which behavior to show at the moment, you are problem free. smile

Basically, if you start behaving like Roger from American Dad, that means its getting out of hand.

I did exactly this, only for me it started in the 9th grade. It worked, I quit being bullied, but a good share of the personality stayed, and things just sort of ebbed and flowed until it worked into the me of today. I was a real douche in junior high though.

The rest is sort of verbal judo, but at the levels of body language, thought, and action, not just words. It's consciously or subconsciously changing aspects of behavior to get the desired result with particular people or a particular situation. Most human beings do this, it's just that most of them aren't too conscious of it.
